Happy new year everyone. May 2021 be the best year YET!

More or less this has been my meals:
    7am Protein shake
10 am one Scrambled egg with milk this makes it soft
12 2 oz of Protein sometimes I’ll have a little veggie or mash
3 snack like cottage cheese, string cheese or Keto friendly snacks
6 2 oz protein sometimes I’ll have a veggie or mash
    8 protein shake
Water in between meals and snack

If I’m hungry before bed I’ll usually add a scrambled egg

This sounds like what I need to be doing! Thanks for sharing! I have been so so bad with eating the wrong Snacks. I hope I can get back on track!

  2. These have been the most interesting posts and comments! Thanks! I’ve enjoyed reading them all.
I had VSG for weight loss 10 years ago and had major reflux, hiatal hernia, Cameron lesions, etc.... so just recently had to have the RNY. I didn’t want to have it but I needed to for health reasons. It’s been great! I had gained back over half of the weight I lost with the VSG and have now lost over 25 pounds since this surgery. I wish I would have had the RNY 10 years ago and probably would have not had the reflux issues that I have had. But anyway, my point is that the RNY is a good surgery that will help with other health issues other than just weight loss. Good luck!

How are you doing?!?! Any update? Did they figure it out? Thinking of you ❤️

Thanks so much! I’m FINALLY starting to feel better. The tests showed that something is going on in my intestines but didn’t show exactly what I had. My surgeon definitely said it is NOT dumping syndrome. I am on 2 different antibiotics and I’m feeling a little better so that’s hopeful. I go back to the Gastro doctor tomorrow so I will see what else they plan on doing. Hopefully this is just a bacterial infection that will go away after the medicine.

  4. Anyone experience severe dumping syndrome? I’ve been really sick...like I can’t keep anything down. I’ve had Water diarrhea so bad that I had to get fluids 3 out of 5 days. I’ve been nauseous and have thrown up a few times but the severe diarrhea has been going on for 12 days now. The doctor is running lots of tests for parasites and infections but mentioned today that he thinks it is dumping syndrome. My surgery was Oct 12 and I was doing completely fine. In fact, I was planning to go back to the gym but started feeling bad. I’m just worried that my Gastro Dr will just blame my sickness on my surgery and dumping syndrome. Anyone had experience with this?

so all your blood work, even the Iron was normal, ok maybe a little low, yet a hematologist saw that something was wrong and helped u?

they did find something with the insulin however they wanna fix it with the diet. i dont know why, since i keep telling everyone nothing changes no matter hat i eat. i still feel so absent, it gets worse every day. i cant function properly anymore. yet nobody is concerned. they have me on antidepressants that only make me worry less, but the brain fog, the fatigue, and the general disorientation get worse every single day. i dont know how i am gonna live like this.

No my blood work always showed my iron to be low. There’s different test to find exactly what is going on with the iron in your body that hematologist know about. He was a great doctor that sent me to other doctors to find exactly where I was losing blood in my body. I guess I’m just saying keep fighting and finding doctors that listen to you because you know there is something wrong and it takes a good Dr to find it

hey, so i did another blood work and once again everything seemed to be perfectly normal, with the exception of the insulin resistance test that i insisted on doing, which showed that after they gave me sugar to drink i started feeling sick and faint again, the blood work showed that the insulin had dropped significantly. this test is done in three hours, and the way it works is they take blood each hour but in the meantime they give u sugar to drink to see how your insulin and pancreas react. so i need to see an endocrinologist once more, since the first one i saw laughed at me and told me i was perfectly fine.

Glad you got that test done and found out the problem! I should have mentioned before that I had that test as well and my insulin dropped so low that I ended up being in a bed for the tests because of passing out. Severe hypoglycemia! Anyway, it’s a learning process.... good luck!

I had my gastric sleeve surgery this past Wednesday and ever since, I have had such a hard time urinating. I feel like I have to go, but once I sit down on the toilet, it takes a lot of mental effort to get it going. And I never feel like I'm emptying my bladder. I read online that it could have something to do with anesthesia. If you had this issue, how long did it take to go back to normal?

I had the exact same problem. I had to be catheterised before I left the hospital and the doctor put me on flomax for 7 days. That worked wonders and I was fine by the time I finished the medicine.

I had the sleeve done in January 2014. It was successful when you consider why I had it. Which was to be able to get pregnant along with some other health concerns. I didn't lose as much weight as one would think but again it wasn't my intention anyway. I just wanted to get to a healthier weight. My highest was 311 and the lowest I got to post sleeve was 206. I loved the way I felt and looked at that weight. After having a baby and falling into some bad old habits but more importantly suffering from severe acid.reflux and being dependent on antacids I decided to look into revision surgery. On Sept 17th I weighed 286 as of today I weigh 254. Things are for the most part going well and I no longer rely on antacids. That being said I am suffering on a daily basis from pain shooting from abdomen to back. It is below breast bones in center. I am most certain it is gas so I've been taking a lot of gas-x. I suffer from chronic pain from a previous injury so I take pain medication daily. I eat when I am hungry but throw up almost every time which happen the first time while I was training my mind and body until I learned the hard way what not to have. So I've just switched to Protein Drinks and Water. But the pain is almost unbearable and I'm wondering if anyone else had this happen to them?

Wow! So sorry you’re having to deal with this pain. When you say revision, did you have the gastric bypass or did they just tighten your sleeve? Also, do you still have your gallbladder?

If you had the RNY then you shouldn’t be throwing up. That’s something you need to tell your surgeon about. Also, the shooting pain from your stomach could definitely be your gallbladder or may just be gas. I had gas pain so bad after my surgery that I couldn’t taya deep breath for 2 weeks. My doctor put me on muscle relaxers to help and it did.

Heres one last thing I can think of.....you may have some milk intolerance that is causing the gas and pain. I found out I have it bad and the only Protein that doesn’t bother me is collagen protein. I hope this helps, but I would definitely call your doctor!

thanks to everyone that answered, i did start drinking a lot more Water these last couple of days, not a lot has changed im afraid. the doctors keep telling me i need to give it time, however as time passes i get more and more desperate and anxious unfortunately. its scary when everyone is telling u that you are healthy but u don't feel it. i really hope that with better nutrition and more Water it will go away eventually.

I had similar issues and finally insisted on going to a hematologist/oncologist to look at my blood work. I knew something was wrong because I know my body. He was amazing and saw that I had no Iron in reserve in my body. I received 2 infusions and felt great. My iron levels were always a little low, but my other doctors didn’t think it was a big deal. But I knew something wasn’t right so I insisted. Don’t give up. You know your body! Good luck!

Good morning m, got a question. For those in the purée face. Is anyone else not going to the bathroom with #2. It’s day 2 for me. I’m not feeling bad or any pain I just need things moving. Has anyone added any tea or something else?

My dr told me to have Miralax everyday. Also, if you mix prune juice and apple juice together and heat it up that works great! Just make sure to get the no sugar added juices.

i had my surgery 10/13. my gas pain is gone now thank God. i'm on puree foods and my favorite thing to eat is refried Beans. Next monday I move to the next phase where I can have moist meats, cheese, Tomato sauce and well cooked veggies.the ounces i can eat vary depending on the texture. for example.. i can drink a Protein Shake easily. but refried Beans i only can tolerate 2 oz.

i've been listening to my cues and i usually hiccup when i'm full. i put my fork down every bite. i've been using those baby spoons to eat and it works so well tricking my mind into thinking i'm taking more food in.

a puree meal i enjoy is ricotta/cottage cheese bake. i mix some egg beater in there and 1tb of the cheese packet from mac and cheese box. season with pepper salt garlic poweder and onion. bake in the oven and it taste like a "mac and cheese" flavor. one serving is 17 grams of Protein

That sounds yummy. I am going to have to try that! Thanks for sharing 😃

Sounds like you’re doing great!!! Good luck on going back to work! I’m worried about that too, but not starting until Election Day. 😬 I am one week today too. I am moving well, and my abs have felt good, but I have a lot of pressure still in my upper abdomen and some burning type pains between incision sites. Today is a bad pain day, but I went 3 days without any Tylenol, so it’s just ups and downs. Still can’t stomach whey Protein, and until the dietician messages me back, the doctor won’t ok something else, so I am doing my best with milk and such to get the Protein in. I have eaten cream of chicken Soup, Sugar Free Chocolate pudding, and watered down cream of wheat. Today I sipped on a skim Decaf latte from Starbucks which felt so good, because it is normal! My swelling is going down. It took until Saturday to be back to pre-op weight, although I did get the extra day of fluids with the 2-day hospital stay. Biggest drama now are some mild, but weird side effects that I am working on with the doctor: lovonox injection site that keeps bleeding, red dotted rash on belly, hands getting hot/red/fiercely itchy in hot Water and going away once dry, tons of bruising near my lower abdomen incisions. Does anyone else have major bruising?

I have discovered Fairlife Protein Drinks that are lactose free and are a life saver for me. I prefer the vanilla but the chocolate and strawberry ones are good too. I had gastric bypass with hernia repair that was done robotically and I still have some pretty big bruises but it doesn’t hurt. I hope this helps. Good luck!

    Hi Everyone -

I had my surgery on 10/19. I am really struggling with whey Protein isolate. The only one I can stomach is the clear fruity kind, but only a few oz. I have gotten up to 12 grams of Protein in one day and that’s it. The whey makes my stomach turn (it made me nauseated in pre-op too, but we were allowed one type of plant Protein Shake and one soy, so those helped me get through it). All of the pre-made shakes on my list are discontinued, aside from the clear fruity ones, which I find weird - why would they give us a list like that? I bought a few different kinds of powders and they are all awful. They make my stomach turn after about 2oz and then I am nauseas for the next 2-3 hours. I have tried mixing unflavored whey with watered down cream of wheat to get away from the dreadful constant sweetness, but it still makes me sick. Anyone else in a similar situation? Anyone have luck making their dietician budge on whey protein? My next step will be to email the dietician and see what she thinks. 60 grams of any protein is better than 12 of whey right? Maybe? I am doing ok on liquids and even well on pudding and Jello.

I’m extremely sensitive to milk/whey/lactose but I’ve found a protein milk that is lactose free and has 30 grams of protein! AND it tastes yummy! My dietician approved it and was excited to add that to her list. It’s the Fairlife high Protein Drink. My favorite is the vanilla but the chocolate is good too. The strawberry is actually good as well. The other one I like is the core power protein drink (26 g of protein) that is actually made by fairlife. Good luck!

I had a gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair at the same time on October 12th. It’s been a rough week and a half. I struggled with gas pains at first. Had about 2 good days-days 5 & 6. Then have had persistent nausea since. My doctor diagnosed me with thrush and has called in some medicine for nausea and an antibiotic for thrush. Apparently you can get thrush as a surgery side effect. Praying this helps with the nausea.

Praying for a speedy recovery! Sorry you are going through the extra pain! I had the same surgery on the 12th.....it gets better but the pain in my shoulder won’t go away!

I have been having the same issue since going back to work. (16 days op) My right side will start to ache from sitting in my office chair. I get up and walk around and/or roll my jeans under my belly flap to ease some of the discomfort. I’m also fighting muscle pain in my upper back daily. Any others have that issue and if so how did you cope?

I’m having the same pain. It’s burning in my back. If I could do yoga I know it would help but since I can’t I don’t know what to do. It’s like I need muscle relaxers or something.

We have hereditary back issues/arthritis in my family (all the women on my mom's side) so I've had back problems for years, but this hip pain is new and is almost crippling. I already know a call to my dr. will be unproductive as he won't prescribe pain meds. He'll likely refer me to a specialist, who will in turn prescribe PT. Once I go thru all that, the specialist MIGHT prescribe pain meds, but I doubt it. I can't spend all that time going thru the motions...this pain is AWFUL. I need relief sooner, but I wanted to rule out/in that it could be due to weight loss and the way I'm now sitting. Just trying to figure out if this is a common issue after losing weight.

I have started having horrible hip and back pain as well. For me, I think my problem is not being able to exercise and stretch like I did pre surgery. I’m only 1 week post op so I can’t exercise yet but if you can I highly recommend doing a little yoga. It will hurt at first but it helps so much!

I am so over drinking broth. I’m going out of my mind! My left side incision is so painful.... at times I want to cry! I’m on day 5 post op gsv to Rny bypass conversion. I’ve never experienced pain like this. I was so cavalier about my recovery and I’m thankful my mother was able to help me, otherwise I don’t know what I would’ve done.

Has anyone tried a post surgery girdle/band? I feel like I need one of those to help with gravity and the incision pain! I’m about to run out of pain medicine and in my life, I’ve never gone past 2 days with medicine. Please tell me it gets better?

I’m so sorry! I feel your pain! I had the same surgery with hernia repair as well on the 12th. I’ve never felt the amount of pain as this surgery as brought. All I can say is it DOES get better each day. The pain kind of changes and is not as bad. I stopped taking the pain meds 2 days after surgery because I felt that they made me feel bad. I ended up taking just a half of pill at night to sleep. This is working so far. But I promise the pain gets better each day.

I’ve been home 2 days and the pain was terrible. I took a shower today and the heat/steam really help loosen things up. Im starting to feel better. Now, if I can get rid of this bloated feeling!

The bloated feeling doesn’t go away for a while from what I’m experiencing. I’m 5 days past surgery and still gassy and bloated. I took so much stuff to have a bowel movement that I ended up pooping for 12 hours! MISERABLE! Anyway, keep doing what they tell you and it will happen. Walk, walk, move in different positions, sit straight up, and drinks lots and lots of Water.

I had gas pain up until about the 4th day. Once you're able to pass the gas well you will feel much better. I stopped taking pain meds on about day 5 I believe. Its been 9 days since my surgery(Oct.6) and I went back to work today and completely forgot I even had surgery done lol.

I had the bypass and hiatal hernia repair Monday the 12th as well and I’m still having really bad gas pains. I am passing the gas and having bowel movements but still have bad pain in my upper back. Everything gets better each day but it’s still painful. I’m not taking any pain meds because of how sensitive I am to them but I am taking Tylenol for the pain. I just keep walking and getting in my fluids. I know it will get better but it has been pretty rough. I hope you feel better soon!

I am 1 week post op. So far so good. I read that if you can make it through the first 3 days you would be fine and I agree. No complications so far. I have been eating the Premier Protein shakes, 2 ounces 6 times a day. I set the timer on my phone to remind me. I have not gotten 48-64 ounces of Water each day because it I hard with the small sips. I do keep the water bottle by my side and drink at night because I do not want to get dehydrated. I did not have a bowel movement because one of the pain meds causes constipation. I called the nurse and she told me to takes Phillips Milk of Magnesia. It worked great. The only other thing I would add is that I stayed ahead of the pain, taking my pain meds every 4 hours. I was also walking from the first day until now. I have TERRIBLE belching. I have been taking chewable Gas X at night

Thanks for the update! I am 2 days post op and walking lots and drinking lots of Water, but the gas pains in my back are just horrible. I know it will get better but it’s difficult to go through.
