Hi Everyone... So, I had my last informational appointment yesterday and asked about the thyroid meds. Unfortunately the nurses presenting the course were not even aware of the 4 hour window, which I think is pretty common. There simply is not enough education out there about thyroid conditions. Anyway, the appointment was a shared appointment and there were a few other patients there. One of them also takes thyroid meds and she said that she takes hers in the evening instead of the morning. Making sure it is 1 hour after eating and outside the 4 hour window for taking supplements, so typically right before bed. It might be an option??

@Castrad01 Oh...gotcha! I've been trying to work it all out and stressing about how I am going to get all of the supplements in with the 4 hours I have to give myself before taking them... Initially, yes. I worked directly with him until my levels stabilized and then worked with my primary care doc for testing 2x a year. However, when first diagnosed eons ago, I was seeing the endo pretty regularly. I imagine I may need to go back again if my levels decide to go whacko after surgery. Did your numbers stay the same or have you had to adjust after surgery?

Hi @Castrad01 - I wait an hour typically because I used to have a morning coffee and unfortunately just sips will cause interference with synthroid effectiveness. I am no longer drinking coffee (to ward off the side effects before surgery), but I have also have heard that you have to wait at least an hour before eating as well. With waiting the 4 hours after taking your thyroid meds - you have enough time to get all your vitamins/supplements in during the day?

Yes! I have also wondered about this! I am only allowed water for an hour after after I take my synthroid and I don't take any type of vitamin until several hours later, as well, usually in the evening to avoid interference. I am going to my last appointment today before my preop diet starts and I will ask and get back to everyone either this evening or tomorrow morning on what I find out.

WHAT, WHAT, WHAT!!!!???? I had no idea this was a possibility! My feet grew with both of my pregnancies, but did not even in my wildest dreams think they could shrink! I have ‘Peggy Hill feet’. Well... almost - 11.5 to 12!! It is sooo difficult finding shoes, I usually have to buy men’s! 😣. Oh my Holy Hannah!!! You have made my year!!! Crossing fingers for future foot shrinkage! I will be crossing all my digits for you! @BostonRiley I think you have the closest date to mine (2/22)!!! Hurry up and wait, right?! When do you start your preop diet? I am going in for my last informational meeting on Wednesday... eeek! I start the diet on 2/8. I am assuming I will get all the details on Wednesday. I am clearly over-preparing (severe fear of the unknown)... my current buys:

My surgery isn't scheduled until 2/22, but I found this on on Amazon and it is amazing! I find that I am not consistent with the app tracking and better at tracking with pen/paper, especially if I have something that is functional and pretty... this fits the bill! It is a little more expensive than most trackers - but it is undated and it is hard covered. Yes! Ditto! I can't live like this anymore either (knees, feet, you name it!) We just need to stay positive and know that so many more opportunities will open when we are not imprisoned in our current bodies! I just really need to stop watching youtube videos, I think! I am obsessing too much!! Fear of the unknown...

I hope that you will come back and tell us about how it is going afterwards! I don't know about all of you, but I am becoming overly obsessed with everything WLS connected lately AND having major negative "what if" thoughts. Hoping that as my date comes closer, that these thoughts will lessen. I don't start my pre-op diet until 2/8...so I am still in the 'hurry up and wait' phase. So....I have a confession. I have been lurking on other (not to be named) sites trying to get as much information I can fit into my brain before my surgery date next month. To say I have a fear of the unknown is an understatement. Anyway, I stumbled upon some really abrasive views about WLS ... not a complete surprise ... and unfortunately found myself sucked in by the negativity. It is amazing how truly offensive/offended people can be about WLS. That isn’t what really threw me for a loop as I was expecting most of the attitudes, but what really made me pause was a post referring to WLS as ‘elective’ and shaming those who undergo the surgery as selfish during the current pandemic. One of the people to comment and agree with these sentiments was a nurse - or at least claimed to be. I know that it is 100% hogwash (like most of what was spouted on the site) this will without a doubt be a life saving operation for me, but curiosity is niggling the back of my brain. Just wondering if anyone has received any backlash for moving forward with surgery during this time?

That sounds pretty good compared to full liquid diet! How is it going for you? I am not sure what I will be required to do yet, but from the little booklet they hand out, there may be a few options.
