  1. Yeah.. I completely understand, people often act in the exact opposite way you think. I told 2 friends I was having surgery. One who is quite obese and one who is very fit. Surprisingly they both had the same response - "Don't do it, it'll ruin your life". One said I'd be vomiting constantly and not ever be able to go anywhere. I didn't see the fit friend for about 6 months post and when I finally did the first thing she said was "Well, you look the same", it killed me. I had lost almost 90 pounds at that that stage. I'm seeing a bunch of friends on the weekend for the first time in a really long time, I'm really nervous about what they'll all say. I couldn't handle negative comments on mass! Things are better with the 2 friends now but it has affected how I think of them. I never thought they would be like that and now I'm very careful about what I say to anyone about anything I'm doing to try to better myself!
  2. Well if you can do it, I can do it

    Not Eating Enough

I know I don't eat enough either. I'm trying to be more mindful and eat slower, I tend to just have 2 or 3 quick bites and then be over it, I also have teeth aligners in and have to take them out to eat so I've turned that into an excuse not too a lot, especially when I'm out with people. Shakes and smoothies are better so I've been adding protein and greens to them to get the intake up, this has helped me a lot!
  4. I'm excited to follow you on your journey! I made the same mistakes with the no photo's or measurements, I'll track the plastics much better too

    Hello!

Welcome and congrats on your surgery!
  6. Hi all, Just thought I'd check in and see how everyone is going now that we are at, or coming up to our 3 month surgery anniversary. CONGRATULATIONS! How is everyone feeling? Anyone having any issues? I'm doing pretty well, coming up to 12 weeks next week and terrified of the dreaded 3 month stall!

    Appearance of scars

I'm the same as you, very pale. My scars are still very pink too. I'm nearly 7 months out. They look better than a couple of months ago but I don't think they'll be invisible for several more months to a year... and by then i'll have much bigger plastics scars to worry myself about

    Help!

Wow this is all so crazy to me. I'm in Australia and not once did anyone do a pregnancy test on me or even ask if I might be pregnant pre op, the nurse mentioned early on that they recommend waiting a year to get pregnant but it doesn't always happen and they've had a few patients get pregnant in the pre-op liquid stage and still have surgery and everything was fine. There's so much sewing that goes on in America, it's just not something that people here do much of.

    Too old for plastics?

I'm 38 too and I get where you're coming from. The thought crossed my mind once or twice too but I've decided I'm definitely going to have a couple of areas tweaked once I reach goal. I figure I spent a lot of years thinking I didn't deserve to be happy, and now? Well now I want it so I'm going to do it and I don't have time for anyone else's opinion on the matter.

    MAY 2020 Sleevers

Congratulations that’s great news! I am doing well, only 6kg to go until my dietitian’s goal. My ultimate goal is about 6kg past that. To think I might actually make it there is crazy!! I am pretty worried about transitioning into maintenance too. I guess I’ll just have to try a few different things and see what works. I recently crossed the major 100 pounds lost and got this little baby as a little congratulations to myself. Finding a name is proving very difficult! Taking any suggestions you all might have ☺️

    Hair loss :-(

I feel you! Mine has been falling out at an alarming rate for about the last 4 months. My pony tail is significantly thinner than it used to be (but only me and my hairdresser have noticed). All the research I did said it's very normal and rarely continues past 6 months... I'm really hoping it starts to slow soon. I can see little 1cm shoots of new hair coming on my scalp, so it's definitely growing back. I did cut my hair to just above my shoulders (about 5 inches off) and that helped a lot with the look of it and now the new baby hairs wont have so long to catch up.

    2.5 Years out!

ashsleeved21 Thank you! as a relative newbie I love hearing stories like yours. It still surprises me everyday that I might actually make it to goal... I don't dare to hope!
  14. Are you drinking plain water? I couldn't tolerate water without something added to it, in fact I still add sugar free cordial to my water 6 months later. Try adding some flavour to it, or sipping warm tea. I had a lot of hydrolyte icy poles too, they were good for getting some electrolytes in, made me feel better. I'd say the high heart rate is due to dehydration, it really is a fulltime job staying on top of the fluids for the first few weeks. I felt like I was never going to get there and would be thirsty forever, but you do get there!
  15. Congratulations! I'm glad you're feeling ok.
  16. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone regularly gives blood after surgery? I did it regularly pre op but haven't been game too after yet. Anyone have any issues with fainting or nausea after?

    Giving Blood

Thanks all. I'll wait for a while and see how it goes

    Choosing Bougie Size

My Doc was very specific in mentioning it was a "one size fits all" when it comes to the sleeve. It wasn't based on BMI or the weight you wanted to lose.
  19. Amazing! Well done, inspirational.

    Slider foods

I would try to limit the amount of "cheating" you do whilst you're in the weight loss phase. Try to maximise the loss while you can. You can still have the occasional treat but keep the party food at the party. Don't snack on anything that isn't giving you the nutrition you really need while consuming so little.

    Worried About Hair Loss?

Thank you @GreenTealael this is very helpful. Right in the middle of hair loss, so sucking up every bit of info I can. Hopefully it'll be slowing down soon, in the mean time I'm off to buy some Zinc!

    Dry, brittle hair

Mine is VERY wiry at the moment, I'm about to bite the bullet and have it cut into a bob to get rid of the dead ends. I'm approaching the 6 month mark and hoping desperately that what I've read here is right and it'll stop falling out then! The argan oil is a good idea though, don't know why I haven't thought of that. Fingers crossed for less frizz in the very near future CheerfulLoser

    am i overthinking...

I really feel this. I told a very close friend of mine my plan (she is quite a lot bigger than me) and she was horrified, said it would ruin my life and I'd never be able to eat without throwing up (totally not true). So I never mentioned it to her again, had the surgery and told her about a month after. I was under the very wrong assumption that she may decide to do it too and we could support each other. It's a very personal decision and I now am a big believer in telling as few people as possible about your plan. I am only 4 months out and I couldn't be happier with my decision, the first week or so after surgery was pretty rough but I've never regretted the decision. You'll know if it's time, sounds like you already do TBH. Yeah it's hard at times but good hard and certainly not harder than being obese.

    MAY 2020 Sleevers

I think about this a lot too, but I’ve decided to trust the process. I know I am doing all the recommended things and that’s all I can do. Now to just let the weight melt away.. hopefully all the way to goal! 🤗
