  1. Thanks and I did. I’m becoming a grandmother soon and I’m planning on being a very active grandma! I did this for me but also for my grandchild. I want to build beautiful memories!
  2. I attended a party today and I had very strong impulses to eat some of the food being served. I did not cheat but I cried when the desert was served from such an intense feeling of frustration. I had brought a cooler with my shakes and sugar free jello so I had something to fall back on. Once I said goodbye and got in the car I felt much better. I could have opted not to attend but I feel like I needed this challenge to prepare me for the road ahead. I felt a little embarrassed to cry over chocolate but I’ve been giving into every single impulse so long that the act of restraint caused me to cry. I have five more days to go until I have surgery. The next five should be a piece of cake considering I was able to get through the day. Thanks for reading.
  3. I am concerned about that but my family is very diligent about wearing masks and avoiding crowds. Plus I tend to sit by myself at parties anyway. I’m predisposed to social distancing by my personality. Score one for me for being a loner.
  4. I swear it seemed like a plot last week with all these food commercials. I changed to streaming only to avoid look at all the food on regular television.

    Please tolerate my venting

I thought you meant leg pain. Did you have an open procedure? If so I I have a suggestion that you use a small pillow pressed on your abdomen when moving around. It will decrease the pain. You’ll need extra time to heal if you had the open procedure.

    Please tolerate my venting

If you have muscle pains that could be a sign of electrolytes being off. Did you bring that up to your doctor? That could also account for your dizziness.

    Pre op diet

My diet is very similar to yours. I can have seven Premier Protein drinks a day, one popsicle, 2 sugar free jello, 2 8 oz servings of broth. The I have like 40 calories left that I can spend on the above. No going over 1200 calories.

Day 7 of fast - physical hunger sensations

I was up to 1195 calories so I didn’t want a shake. I ate a five calorie jello and 24 oz of water and it went away. I honestly think it was the aggravation that made my stomach release acid. It sure felt like that was what happened. Thanks for your reply.
  9. I’m on my 7th day of the two week prep and I feel hunger pains tonight. I had some mild hunger pains on the second day but then none all week. The only thing I can think of is that I had some aggravation this afternoon with someone that always wants me to fix everything for them and I was stressing. I even yelled out “this is my time dammit!” After I hung up. I’m not going to break my diet, I will drink water and go to bed early but it’s easy to see how stress can make you hungry. Also my hubby cooked up some savory food and I still smell it. Maybe I should try a bit of Vicks under my nose. I just need to shut my phone or tell people I’m out of town. Let them figure out their own things.
  10. I won’t miss “losing” the remote and then finding it under me when I stand up.
  11. My big butt knocking down things as I walk by.

    Clear protein stage after surgery

Some Bariatric programs allow the shakes in the first stage. Mine wants clear liquids for one week. But the nurse said the week begins the day you have surgery. So if you have surgery on Monday by the following Monday you start the next phase. If everything goes well I will be out on the third day and have to start drinking clear for less than five days. That’s not bad.

    Clear protein stage after surgery

I spoke to the nurse about Unjury and she said it should be fine. I’m kind of confused though because she said no whey but I see whey on the list of ingredients.
  14. If you think that’s possible then ask for something for anxiety. They will give it to you while you’re still waiting to be wheeled back. You want this surgery very much to give you the ability to get back on your feet. I’m going in on the 7th. I certainly don’t like the idea of being under for a few hours versus thirty minutes for a endoscopy but most likely the worst of it will be when you wake up and still have the anesthesia working it’s way out of your body. Last procedure I started singing in recovery to myself along to the hum of the machines. Anything to distract helps me. I will be sending you good vibes on your special day.
  15. I used to be very afraid of anesthesia. So much so that I jumped off the table in the operating room. Of course being obese is a higher risk for undergoing anesthesia but I assume you have had all your pre-op testing and your team is aware of what concerns they need to stay on top of during your surgery. You can ask the anesthesiologist to give you something for anxiety. They put it right in the intravenous and it works in minutes. You will be wheeled into the Operating Room which will be a bit cold, brightly lit and it will have a slight echo. There will be a flurry of activity around you. I find it helpful to shut my eyes at this point and pretend as if I am going to bed for the night. Practice this if you need to. Visually see yourself in the operating room and feel the coolness, hear the slight echo but you will shut your eyes and breath in and out slowly. Another thing I do is start naming fruits and vegetables starting at the beginning of the alphabet in my head. You will likely only get to G for grapefruit. The next thing that will happen is you will wake up in recovery. You will feel a bit disoriented, nauseous possibly and you will hear the sounds of the machine beeps very loudly. Ask for something for nausea if you need it. Keeping your eyes closed and just focusing on breathing helps to get the anesthesia out of your system. Within an hour you should feel much better and then you’ll work on pain management. You can do this and you will be healthier and stronger before you know it.

    August 2020 Surgery

I took the time before I received a surgery date to figure out which shakes I liked best. I also tried eating certain meals as if I was post op. For example, I made very loose farina for the second post op stage. I also chewed more thoroughly to get used to doing that instead of eating fast. Practicing sipping water is important too because I read that we can get pain afterwards if we gulp. There’s really plenty to work. One last thing I did was to listen to Bariatric themed podcasts by Reeger Cortell. She is a nurse practitioner for a Bariatric program and she has these lengthy podcasts on subjects of interest to those seeking weight loss surgery. Before you know it your surgery date will be on the horizon!

I’m a planner too. Feels good to have things in place. Good luck on your journey!

    August 2020 Surgery

I’m starting the prep in the morning. I found this program on the App Store called Hourly Chime. It lets you set hourly reminders to drink your prep and water. I also have Bariatastic but the reminders don’t always go off as they should. I had a final disappointing Italian dinner and 6 fun size snickers. I feel ready and very excited about the prep. I’m ready to roll!

    My bad

I have lactose intolerance. My symptoms are bloating and gurgling first then an attack of diarrhea. I would say you have a good chance of it being either of the two. You could try using Lactaid milk and seeing if it helps. Try one of the lower fat versions and see how you tolerate that first. Good luck.

    I’ve got a date!

I’m really happy that this is going to happen. I’m fighting with my weight since I’m nine and I am fifty now. I almost can’t believe it’s going to happen. I feel like I’m dreaming.

    I’ve got a date!

I’m going in on August 7th 2020. I’m really excited about having surgery and looking forward to my new life! My husband and daughter are very supportive of my decision and I feel very positive about taking this step. I’ve got all the food for the two week liquid fast in my house already. I can’t wait to have a New Year’s Eve when I won’t be resolving to lose weight but resolving instead to buy myself nice new clothes! 😀
