    Hello All,

I’m new to this app... kinda sucks because I wish I would have been known about it lol. Well to the point I’m 31 years of age 5’5 and weighing in at 360lbs. I’m scheduled for surgery 5/15 and I must admit the closer it gets I have moments where I’m battling myself with the question “ IS THIS REALLY WHAT YOU WANT TO DO ERIKKA?” ... my backstory is that I haven’t been overweight all my life , I grew up physically fit in basic school & all the way thru HS. The trouble came after HS and after my first child birth... my weight has been a struggle since then! I’ve went to the gym ( ONCE IM COMMITTED , IM COMMITTED ) I’ve lost a significant amount of weight ONLY to gain it back ! 2 years ago I got up to 300 and I was like ohhh hell no , I made an effort to loose weight and I got down to 230 and gained it all back and EVEN MORE ! Putting me now up to 360 I decided that I no matter how succesful I am , it’s clear I need help FOR LONGTERM SUCCESS so I decided to have surgery .. but at times when seeing honest reviews about the aftermath people face leaves me wondering am I making the right decision.

Without. question this is the right thing to do for your health! You will NOT regret it!!

I think this is something that isn't said alot on here because of the fear of making others feel bad. I mean I get how it would be defeating to read about other's non-issue recovery/experiences when one is really struggling. With that said, I theorize there are actually quite a lot of people out there who actually did experience this process as "the easy way out" and did not struggle at all.

I just basically said this in another thread: While it IS very nice/kind to keep the feelings of others in mind when posting stuff, it is also totally okay to say eff YEAH to Celebrate your own successes, whether it came easy or not. The level of difficulty one goes through to get to goal doesn't diminish nor increase the value of said goal. A goal is a goal is a goal. Yay, EVERYONE!

Dang straight sss! I hope that anyone on the fence between sleeve and band will investigate more and make the right decision. (SLEEVE) :)

Has anyone put on weight? I’ve been put on steroids Ann’s was told I might put on weight. I’ve put on a stone. Also sometimes I have stomach ache every time I have my meals, I have a telephone appointment on May 5th so will mention it then. I cannot eat curry, chilli or any spicy food, where I used to love eating them.

Does anyone also not feel like eating meals but can eat biscuits or chocolate through the day, my friend had the sleeve as well on the same week as me but different hospital.

Any help would be gratefully received.

I have not but only about 2 months out of surgery. Steroids will be the culprit to that weight gain I believe. I would suggest quit eating chocolate and bisquits (Are you talking about what we Yanks call Cookies? ) :)

Tim, why do you do the two different types of Protein powders? ?

I am trying to get as much protein in as I can early in the day so I add the whey protein to bump it up. I add the collagen protein(another 10Gs) because collagen is amazingly good for your skin hair and nails. My wife mixes it in her morning coffee. Since I started taking it my heels do no crack anymore. It is good stuff in other words.

You may want a pair of pajama pants to wear under gown as you walk the halls since it splits in the back.

I walked to the end of the hall with my IV stand in tow. When I got to the end and started to head back the other way a nurse came out of a room and tied up the back of my gown. As she was doing so I said "Normally I would be embarrassed but right now I don't give a damn"...she got a good laugh out of it. :)

I’m ten months out and am still enjoying the zero hunger phase, riding this train as far as it’ll take me I guess. I had one brief spell where I thought hunger came back with a vengeance but it was short lived and I’m thinking it was a stomach bug or something. Im in the same situation as you, I had basically no pain, no problems. I know a lot of people say this isn’t the “easy way out” but for me it really was, but you know what? I don’t care how I got here… I’m just glad I did and wish I did it years ago.

Same here brother! Wasted a lot of time with the lap band before I had this done. The sleeve abides! :)

  7. I had a lap band put in about 15 years ago. Nothing but trouble for me the whole time I had it. I could not swallow at night with the least amount of restriction in it. I know many here have/had lap bands and did well...congrats for that. For me that damn thing was straight from HELL!! I hated it! I am only now realizing how much I hated that thing, more than I thought. For me this Sleeve surgery has been amazing. Even with around 20 days of stalls in the first 58 days I still have lost about 30 lbs since surgery. I am not quite 2 months post op and have no hunger which is really incredible. If I had any pain ,and I know most do , it was that first day and I slept thru most of that .I had surgery on a Tuesday (Sleeve AND lap band removed as well...Thank God! I had a 250 mile trip home on Wednesday, went back to work on Thursday. My circumstances may be unique to me but this has been easy so far.I wish I had done this years earlier. This is the ticket my friend!

I want to say I started getting legitimately hungry sometime into maintenance...like 7,8,9 months post op?

But like the other's said above, its not a ravenous-type of hunger like it was pre-op. Its alot more polite and respectful, lol. So NOT like a toddler. More like a well-mannered english nanny. Oh, and its very patient...it can wait until I get around to it...so like an sweeter, older, well-mannered-english nanny....LOLOLOLzzzz

I still have days here and there when I just don't feel like eating, or I forget to eat. It comes and goes.

    I am 2.5 years post-op.

I had no hunger for at least six months, like NONE. Then it slowly returned but it's still only 60% of what it was pre-surgery. I get hungry now, but less often and less intensely than before I was sleeved.

Bummer...I was hoping this would last longer (like forever). I guess I need to keep after it until I hit goal and the hunger Demon returns

Good morning. Today I am supposed to start my 2 week pre op diet. I have struggled hard the past 2 days and am a wreck. I even think about the surgery and I cry so hard I can’t breath. Let me go back a little bit. My insurance does not cover the surgery so I am paying myself. That also means that it all is happening really fast. My initial consult was March 5 and surgery is May 6. Also no prerequisite were required like a psych evaluation. I started calorie counting and exercising in my own in February and since I have lost 24 pounds on my own. From 291 to 267. I never had the 6 month wait with working with a dietian to see if I could do it on my own. This is the first time I’m trying to change the problem not bandaid it with weight loss pills. And it looks like it is working but will be slower than surgery. I’m on track for 10 pounds a month. I have no underlying conditions such as blood pressure or diabetes. This surgery is scaring the poop out of me and I’m so close to backing out. Has anyone been here and done it on there own? I feel like there is no part of this I can mentally handle. I can handle tracking my food and losing slowly.

This will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself...No regrets!

I have lost 10 lbs since surgery two weeks post op today. I feel like it should be more, but I have not really started on walking yet and plan on that today. Should I be dropping more?
I was on full liquid for one week and started purée the 2 week. I’ll be on purée for one more week then will be on soft foods.
    TIA

Sounds about right to me. I am averaging about 4lbs a week(3.7) at the 8 week mark. That includes 3 stalls 5-10 days each. Good luck!

  12. I am not quite 2 months post op and have no hunger which is really incredible. My surgeon said that some people have no hunger for up to 4 years. I hear others on here are hungry all the time and didn't experience no hunger. Since the portion of your stomach that creates the hunger hormone has been removed I really don't understand (but sure someone will tell me) why some folks are hungry and some are not. How long did the no hunger phase last for you?

Didn’t think I’d ever get this far. My realistic goal was 240 (I’m 6’4” and always justified my fatness as “I’m just a big guy”) but when I hit that I thought 220 would be the bottom. Just hit 199 last week and I think I’m at goal now. Not sure how I can really get into maintenance, calculators are showing my calorie intake needed to maintain are waaaayyy above what I can take in. Short of switching to the m&ms and pop tart diet I think I’ll still keep losing which is now a little concerning. Went from barely squeezing into 44 pants to a loose 36, BMI is considered healthy. I feel great and I’m SOOOO close to being able to do literally the first pull-up of my life. Need to log in via laptop and change my username now :) sorry to gloat I just feel good and can’t get too excited at home because my wife has not been successful with gsv despite strictly adhering to the program and she’s bummed about it pretty hard (quite understandably so)

It aint braggin' if you can back it up! Congrats Matty!
