SL824 got a reaction from Krimsonbutterflies in Newbie on my Journey ... did you keep your journey a secret
I started my journey in May. Down to my last two requirements and then submission to insurance. Hoping for Sept surgery. As of now, only my husband, my mom and 3 of my best friends know. Already with one of them I’ve gotten backlash and it’s making me rethink this friendship. Totally the reason I haven’t told many people. Negativity is something I don’t need right now. There is nothing wrong with keeping this low. It’s YOUR journey. Something YOU are doing for the better of YOU. I need this to be about me, for me, not about what other people think of something they know nothing about.
    😊 Good luck y’all!

Hi...I am prepping for Aug...not scheduled yet, but I am about halfway through my appointments...
What made you decide on the sleeve? My Dr thinks I'll be better with the Duodenal Switch, so I have been researching the differences and pros/cons like mad.

Hi .... I have told people ... i am tired of being uncomfortable and my doctor recommended it for my breathing and sleep apena and high blood pressure. I didn't tell anyone for days what he suggested because I thought he was mean but honest... at first i thought it was crazy until i looked into it. When i went to the seminar for weight loss the first thing the doctor said is 90% of people that loss weight by dieting gain it back! That was it for me ... so tired of gaining and losing over the years and this surgery gives you a chance. When people ask me about it tell them about the percentage of people gaining weight back and it shuts them up. I want to live longer for my son and god willing this is my chance. II know it wont be easy but it will give me a chance to start over. Its a good thing!!! Tell them all it is a good thing .. a new start ... good luck !!!!!

I am new here kinda just stumbled on this site. I am on my Pre-op diet it has not been bad only one day with a headache. It feels good to read positive and uplifting words of encouragement. My surgery date is July 16, i am excited but nervous because nobody can be there with me because of this pandemic. I have been very quit about this nobody knows but my 3 kids. I was wondering was any of you secretive about having surgery? i chose to keep it secret because sometimes i feel people speak before they think, like saying this is the easy way out, when that is the furthest from the truth.

So my facility really only does the sleeve or bypass. I choose the sleeve because I didn't care for the idea of moving things around as well as the malabsorption that comes with it. My surgeon also told me that if needed you can go from the sleeve to bypass but you can't go from bypass backwards... everyone has their own though process tho.

I had the DS at Wake Med in Cary. I started out with a 42 bmi now 15 months later I am a 25. Diabetes gone, high blood pressure gone, and high cholesterol gone!!! I still dont recognize myself in the mirror! The only downfall is smelly poops and smelly gas but the Dr put me on Creon and it seems to be helping. As for telling people, everyone I've told has been supportive but I think it's a personal choice. Best decision I ever made!!! Oh and it took me 8 8 months from start to finish!Good luck on your journey!!!!

Hi @GrungeGrownUp and @MarigoldSky. I just had my second appointment with the nutritionist and it went ok. No pounds lost this month but I did notice a lot about my eating habits and I think that will help with this journey.

I do t have an official date yet but hoping for early August. The coordinator said it’s still to early to schedule the surgery.

Not sure which surgery I will have. Do you know?
