SummerHot reacted to S@ssen@ch in Lap-Band Removal
I had my lap band out in 2009. I was just miserable with it, constant reflux issues. Felt immediately better having had it removed. It was probably one of the easiest surgeries I've ever had and I had no complications.
I was a little terrified that I'd gain all my weight back but noticed that my portion sizes were still small. I kept up my general lap band-like practices and my weight held steady UNTIL life handed me a big bag of stress and change. As a result, I started stress eating. Over the course of a year and a half, I gained all of my weight back. Fortunately, those pounds didn't bring too many extra friends to the party. Long story short, I had the sleeve in 2017 and am happy with that decision.
Moral of the story: there IS life after the lap band. If you stay the course and do not return to bad habits, you'll keep your weight off. Best of luck to you!

I’ll start by saying my nutritional support through my surgeon is somewhat lacking, but I feel ok with my progress and have really dug into research on my own.
I’m almost 6 weeks post op, and took a punishing spinning class this morning. It felt great. (Cleared for it by my surgeon!) Apple Watch isn’t totally reliable, but it says I burned around 600 calories. Now I don’t know how to eat the rest of the day. I’ve only eaten when legitimately hungry this afternoon, still focusing on Protein and veggies. Can anyone else who does heavy exercise advise me on how and if you adjust calories?

Your lack of Water intake seems based more on fear than anything else.
So think about this... it take 2 - 4 grams of water to mobilize 1 gram of fat (this is the real reason it is drummed into every bariatric patient to GET YOUR FLUIDS). If you DONT get enough Fluid, you will severely hamper your ability to mobilize/lose adipose tissue - with the added bonus of ending up in hospital from dehydration. CHANGE your habits, that's the only thing keeping you from getting enough fluids.

Thanks! Yeah I've been overweight mostly my whole life but fit overweight. I ran 5 marathons above 200lbs. I've competed in numerous crossfit events I've just always had issues with portion size.

HI! I would love to know if anybody has had success getting insurance coverage for WLS when your BMI is under 40 and you do NOT have high blood pressure, sleep apnea or high cholesterol. Do any other comorbidities work to get coverage?
    TIA!

SummerHot reacted to Puffy-no-more in United Healthcare choice plus 6 month diet requirements
Hello everyone. I'm new to this and am very nervous about this whole thing. I have been seeing my primary doctor for years about my weight and have tried numerous diets and pills thru my doctor. I have UMR for insurance but they go by the United healthcare choice plus guidelines for bariatric surgery. I have received different answers from different representatives through my insurance place regarding the 6 month diet requirements. Does it need to be consecutive? How far back can those 6 months go? Does it have to be doctor supervised or can I show weight watchers logs? My surgeon office initially told me it doesn't have to be consecutive and can go back 2 years. But I was just doing some reading and saw that some people with this same plan had to have consecutive visits and within the 6 months prior to the authorization being sent in.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

No. Charcoal wasn’t. I heard it was good to gas. Oh well that was a big mistake.

As for being opening twice, now it’s three times and this is the most horrific pain I’ve ever felt in my life. I’m so emotionally drained for two days. Every time I burp I say omg here we go again. I can do another surgery. I just can’t. This has taken its toll on me now. I just took some anti gas that the doc prescribed. I got a weird taste in my mouth and got scared and woke up. They revised my revision and moved it to another part of the intestine and he seems to think this is for the best. But here I am 72 hours out and got a weird gas burp with the taste I had last week an the week before. So I took a PPI. there is no burning or nausea like last time
That then lead me to vomit. But every time I burp I get anxious. I’m an emotional wreck. I have so much “butt” pressure. Unsure of those lovey hospital beds or just huge piles of gas ahah that needs to be gone.
