I just celebrated my 1 year (1/7), and I was down 131 pounds on my 1 year (have lost another pound since then). I am below goal and couldnt be happier with my results. I have set a secondary goal that I would love to reach by end of 2021, 140 pounds. If I DONT hit it, I wont be upset, I've already surpassed my original goal, but it would be nice to get there.
Its definitely harder now to stay strict and not stray too far from the post op guidelines, but I operate under the idea that nothing is off limits to me. If its not forbidden, I dont want it as much 😂 I treat myself, but very rarely. I still want to LIVE life, not just struggle through it.

    Hey all,
I'm coming up in a few weeks on my one year surgery anniversary so I thought I'd reach out and see how everyone is doing? The holidays were definitely a struggle for me, I wasn't eating what I should and I put on a few pounds, but I just started a 30 day challenge that I am hopefull will more than make up for it. I've definitely reached a point where I need to focus and work harder so now the real challenge begins, but I've come so far and I refuse to go backwards!
I ended up needing to have another surgery in early December. All the weight loss led to lots and lots of gallbladder stones and after ending up in the er once I wasn't doing it again so my surgeon was able to remove it and while in there he found my hiatal hernia had relapsed and he was able to fix it which solved a bunch of other issues I had been having.
Overall, I'm still super happy about my decision. I'm so close to being down 100lbs from my surgery date, but I'm over 100lbs down from my pre liquid diet weight so I feel amazing!
Water, Protein, and Vitamins are always a struggle but I work everyday to try and improve. I hope everyone is doing well, would love to hear from you all, my anniversary is about 2.5 weeks away at this point.

    Thank you!
Have you ever heard the phrase "carbs beget carbs?" It's absolutely true for me. If I start on salty and carb-rich snack/junk food before I knew it the whole bag was gone. No wonder I got so big. Now when I'm hungry between meals I try to stick with Protein Snacks. They're better for me and keep me fuller. If I simply have to have a "bad" snack to satisfy a craving, I'll stick to small pre-packaged bags of ~100 calorie snacks so I know I won't overdo it. You just have to stay focused and keep your eye on the prize!
Absolutely on the small plates, I do the same. Keep up the great work!
That's fantastic! I was recently able to fit into a size XL shirt. XL! Me! It's cut a little bigger than normal but I don't care, I never thought that would happen again lol.
  4. Congrats!

There are days I struggle with junk as well, but I try to make sure I only take a bite or two, just to satisfy the craving, then move on. It is such a TOUGH mental struggle!
I am doing well though. I have lost 125 pounds, and I have surpassed my original goal. Now I have decided to try for another 20 pounds. If I get there, great! If not, I'll still be proud of my accomplishments so far. I'm now in a size 10 pant and medium shirt!
  5. Congrats!

My dietician suggested using small, dessert size, 7" plates for meals. Half the plate Protein, one third veggies, the rest carbs. Don't pile the food high, just normal. It has worked for me.
Tough on the shoulder surgery. I've had both rotators done and the last also had a torn biceps. The CV shut me out of the gym but I've been back the last two months. I'm 74 and my bench is up to 145 now. Not great but not bad for my age.
I've found that when I'm 'starving' between meals, one or two saltine crackers does the trick.
I'm down eighty pounds, my body fat is 17.5%, I weigh 199 and my lean body mass is 170. I'm very pleased. (So is the wife).

Congrats! That's awesome! I finally broke into the 170s. Those last few pounds in the low 180's took forever, but I am confident about moving forward. I am quite a bit shorter than you, so I think I still have a ways to go to hit that weight victory. Won't give up though!

Just hit my next goal. Now down over 100lbs since surgery and over 130lbs total. Feels good! I've hit quite a few peaks and valleys along the way and sustained a couple of injuries that have kept me out of the gym for the past few weeks, but I'm forging ahead. I have noticed that I'm physically able to eat more so I have to be very mindful of my portion size! Keep up the good work everyone!

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well! I just wanted to check in and share a personal victory of mine! I have officially made it into the "healthy weight" BMI bracket for the first time in... well pretty much ever! [emoji23] I do need to still work on getting enough Protein and Water (sometimes I just simply forget to drink) but overall I feel much much better than I did before my sleeve, and I'm pretty pumped about fitting into a medium again!! Anyhow, I hope you're all having a great summer!

I just had shoulder surgery, Dr. went in to repair 2 tears and look at a third. Well, the third wound up being a completely detached bicep tendon!! So unexpected! Dr. was talking about it for a few days afterwards. Complete surprise, and a full arm cast later.... Since I was unable to see a Dr. for a few months due to Covid-19, my shoulder froze as well. So I had the 2 tears repaired, Bicep tendon reattached with a screw, a few Bone spurs ground off, arthritis removed and the frozen shoulder worked on. PT has been rough, but need to do it and deal as I don't want to have to go under again to undo frozen shoulder.

Congratulations! I myself had a little setback. I tore my rotator cuff and had surgery 2 weeks ago. For whatever reason, I have a lot of swelling. I did pick up a few pounds prior to the surgery. Stress eating and worrying. I am getting back on track this week and pray that those 3-4 pounds come off this week. It may just be swelling from the surgery itself. I have begun walking again, but I cant do my regular workout for 3 months. Can't run just yet, another 4 weeks for that.
I had gotten down to 187.6. I was 10 pounds away from first goal!! I don't know why I thought that this weight loss would be easy with the surgery. It is still a lot of work! My goal is to get there before October. I have a problem with my Protein too. I just started adding unflavored Protein Powder to many of my meals.
I have not had any negative effects from over eating. I don't know if I am just not over eating or what. I weigh in on Fridays.

Just trust the process. I am sure that you have lost more than that. You probably still have some swelling. Just stick as close to the eating guidelines as possible. Have you though about doing liquids for a week to try to reset? We have all come so far...

Hello All, I've been out of touch as I hurt my shoulder back in Feb. Have been continuing Physical therapy for my broken patella (broke in 1/2 last year June) Finally able to see Dr. about my shoulder in May, had to schedule surgery 7/9. Today is 4 weeks post op on shoulder and 7 months 1 week post op for sleeve surgery. I'm now in a full arm cast for the past 4 weeks....2 more weeks to go(hopefully, Dr. said may need 8 weeks).
I've lost 41 lbs. to date. Been a bit rough with stalls I've had and junk eating during height of covid-19.
My biggest problem is getting my veggies in. I average 40-50g Protein and 40-48 ounces Water a day. Had bloodwork done, my Cholesterol went up!! I've never had high cholesterol! Good news blood sugar went down. Dr. took me off metformin. Soooo happy about that. Since I had my shoulder surgery, had to cancel 6 month post op with stomach Dr. I'm trying to work on getting Cholesterol down before I see him.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

Also, congratulations [emoji322][emoji324][emoji322][emoji324][emoji322] to everyone who's doing so well. I've read all the posts a b d seems like its going good for all.

Doing well! Hit another stall over the last 2 weeks and counting. This is my 3rd one so it's old hat now. I'm just sticking to the process and it'll keep coming off. Otherwise I feel great. My shoulder is acting up a bit. I had surgery too A few years ago for a torn rotator cuff, labrum, and had the end of my collarbone cut off because it was impinging on my ac joint. Rehab was difficult. I've been hitting the gym hard so it might be time for a cortisone shot.

I've had surgery on both cuffs. You'll get through it. Be sure and do your physical therapy. A friend decided it hurt too much to move. His shoulder 'froze up' and he had to have another surgery to 'break it lose'.
Just my experience but I gain weight every time I have surgery. They pump the fluids to you. BTW, I gained over five pounds during my sleeve surgery. It was gone rather quickly.

    Hiya fellow august rebirth people
well its been two years for me and i would not change a thing started this journey at 361 lbs i no longer take any meds i excise every day eat for fuel not for comfort or depression any longer the head work has been more important to me than anything dont get me wrong i still have my moments of depression and try to move forward with that and learn from those every day most of the time i am helping others and focusing on them and i have relied on there problems and the fixes for them to help keep me busy and not focus on myself which has been a problem for me always put others ahead of my self (the problem solver) well i see a pattern returning with that .so with that said i really need to stay focused on me first then i can help others .
today i weigh 186 lbs this morning and have a new out look on life the tool i was given has changed me
for the better for me and my future life thanks for giving me a place to not be judged and let out emotions that dont come out of me in person to person conversations i am getting better at letting people in my bubble still not good at it

Hey all it's August! Where are we all at in our journeys- our thread is hella dead 😂🤣 Well I myself don't come check in usually either, except every Tuesday on Weigh In days. Do you all have set weigh in days? I weigh in on surgery day, which was a Tuesday. Sometimes I'll step on the scale but I don't "log" it. I try not to make myself crazy though by putting so much pressure on my numbers.
Life is good for me, this Covid thing has really thrown me into working out though. I hike a lot. I don't work so hiking or biking are the only things I really go out of the house for anymore. It's so nice being smaller for hiking - some of the trails I use to hike when I weighed 300 pounds and I'm like I was amazing for doing it. Because now it's so "easy" I've become one of "those" people who can carry on a conversation while hiking - I just hated those people before 🙄🤦‍♀️
My food intake is still strange. The other day I overate - I kind of knew it too. I didn't listen to myself and was like I can have 2 more bites, well NO - you can not have 2 more bites! Those 2 bites threw me into an awfulness I don't want to repeat. The 2 bites were vegetables, I have such a hard time getting in veggies, because I need my Protein. Anyone having difficulty with finding the balance of still eating veggies?
Anyway would love to know how everyone is doing heading into this 7th month. Are you loving your "new" improved Life?

FWJ reacted to New&Improved in # 8 months post OP - maintaining well - below goal - happy
hello there just doing my monthly check in for those who are interested.
So it's officially 8 months since I had my RNY BYPASS surgery.
    My journey has been good.
Started high weight of 322lbs and I've been in maintenance now 2 months.
I sit consistently around 165LBS most days but my lowest recent weight was 163lbs.
I have definitely been enjoying alot more variety in my diet since maintenance began and I can tolerate most foods but still use shakes if needed.
I am now consuming around 1500kcal most days even a few treats here and there without any side effects or weight gain.
I'm feeling amazing and looking good.
I'll be 36 in about 5 weeks but feel healthier than I have in 20 years!!!
I am glad I did the right research and chose the BYPASS as my first and only surgery and I'm amazed how well I've done.
never ever expected to lose 100% EBW but I've done it and my surgeon says I'm an anomaly only about 5% of his patients ever lose that much 😊
I know it's only early days and things might change in regards to malabsorption of calories and such but I'll be sure to keep an eye on my weight for the long term.
I just want everyone to see it is possible to be successful and reach all your goals.
you just have to be 150% focused on your goals from day 1.
Thank you all and I'll appreciate any comments.
    Mike

I didn't tell many people when I initially got the surgery, but now I have everyone asking me how I lost so much weight and I proudly tell them. WLS is NOT a cop-out--it doesn't show lack of will power or laziness. It's still a lot of work and will power. What it DOES show is your commitment to better your life and health! It shows what means you are willing to go through to obtain it.
    Good luck!
