I just celebrated my 1 year (1/7), and I was down 131 pounds on my 1 year (have lost another pound since then). I am below goal and couldnt be happier with my results. I have set a secondary goal that I would love to reach by end of 2021, 140 pounds. If I DONT hit it, I wont be upset, I've already surpassed my original goal, but it would be nice to get there.

Its definitely harder now to stay strict and not stray too far from the post op guidelines, but I operate under the idea that nothing is off limits to me. If its not forbidden, I dont want it as much 😂 I treat myself, but very rarely. I still want to LIVE life, not just struggle through it.

Congratulations!!!! My anniversary is on the 20th. Including the little that I put on during Christmas, I am about 12 pounds from my goal. I too am very happy with my progress and REFUSE to go back!!! We have all done so well!!!

    Thank you!

Have you ever heard the phrase "carbs beget carbs?" It's absolutely true for me. If I start on salty and carb-rich snack/junk food before I knew it the whole bag was gone. No wonder I got so big. Now when I'm hungry between meals I try to stick with Protein Snacks. They're better for me and keep me fuller. If I simply have to have a "bad" snack to satisfy a craving, I'll stick to small pre-packaged bags of ~100 calorie Snacks so I know I won't overdo it. You just have to stay focused and keep your eye on the prize!

Absolutely on the small plates, I do the same. Keep up the great work!

That's fantastic! I was recently able to fit into a size XL shirt. XL! Me! It's cut a little bigger than normal but I don't care, I never thought that would happen again lol.

Believe it or not, I am good in a large or XL, depending on the cut...

There are days I struggle with junk as well, but I try to make sure I only take a bite or two, just to satisfy the craving, then move on. It is such a TOUGH mental struggle!

I am doing well though. I have lost 125 pounds, and I have surpassed my original goal. Now I have decided to try for another 20 pounds. If I get there, great! If not, I'll still be proud of my accomplishments so far. I'm now in a size 10 pant and medium shirt!

You should be proud! That is an awesome accomplishment! I don't know if anyone else has gotten to this point, but shopping is so overwhelming for me now! I used to just go straight to the plus sizes in a store and it wasn't too large to shop. But NOW! I am in "regular" sizes and there are just too many choices!!! I am definitely not a size 10, but I am no longer in plus sizes either...

  4. I have just been released from the doctor 4 months after shoulder surgery. Prior to then I was on my own target to reach my goal by the end of this month. I must admit, I have been struggling. I have been up and down in my weight and noticed that I can eat more too. I have recently begun counting calories in vs calories burned. Just trying to get a handle on me! I still have until January to get the last 11 pounds off. I am just going to keep working at it... I have made a lot of revelations about my eating and I am trying to change accordingly. I cannot eat out as much as the sodium content keeps me bloated. I can eat waaayyyy more junk/snack food that regular food (even nuts). I just never seem to get full from it. So I try to stay away from it. Any tips on getting my mind back right?

Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well! I just wanted to check in and share a personal victory of mine! I have officially made it into the "healthy weight" BMI bracket for the first time in... well pretty much ever! I do need to still work on getting enough Protein and Water (sometimes I just simply forget to drink) but overall I feel much much better than I did before my sleeve, and I'm pretty pumped about fitting into a medium again!! Anyhow, I hope you're all having a great summer!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!! I am so excited for you!!!! Keep up the great work! From what I understand very few people get to where you are after the surgery!!! You are an inspiration!

Hello All, I've been out of touch as I hurt my shoulder back in Feb. Have been continuing Physical therapy for my broken patella (broke in 1/2 last year June) Finally able to see Dr. about my shoulder in May, had to schedule surgery 7/9. Today is 4 weeks post op on shoulder and 7 months 1 week post op for sleeve surgery. I'm now in a full arm cast for the past 4 weeks....2 more weeks to go(hopefully, Dr. said may need 8 weeks).
I've lost 41 lbs. to date. Been a bit rough with stalls I've had and junk eating during height of covid-19.
My biggest problem is getting my veggies in. I average 40-50g Protein and 40-48 ounces Water a day. Had bloodwork done, my Cholesterol went up!! I've never had high cholesterol! Good news blood sugar went down. Dr. took me off metformin. Soooo happy about that. Since I had my shoulder surgery, had to cancel 6 month post op with stomach Dr. I'm trying to work on getting Cholesterol down before I see him.
    Does anybody have any suggestions?

Also, congratulations to everyone who's doing so well. I've read all the posts a b d seems like its going good for all.

Just trust the process. I am sure that you have lost more than that. You probably still have some swelling. Just stick as close to the eating guidelines as possible. Have you though about doing liquids for a week to try to reset? We have all come so far...

I've had surgery on both cuffs. You'll get through it. Be sure and do your physical therapy. A friend decided it hurt too much to move. His shoulder 'froze up' and he had to have another surgery to 'break it lose'.

Just my experience but I gain weight every time I have surgery. They pump the fluids to you. BTW, I gained over five pounds during my sleeve surgery. It was gone rather quickly.

Thank you! I am glad to hear that! Therapy has not been too painful.

Hey all it's August! Where are we all at in our journeys- our thread is hella dead 😂🤣 Well I myself don't come check in usually either, except every Tuesday on Weigh In days. Do you all have set weigh in days? I weigh in on surgery day, which was a Tuesday. Sometimes I'll step on the scale but I don't "log" it. I try not to make myself crazy though by putting so much pressure on my numbers.

Life is good for me, this Covid thing has really thrown me into working out though. I hike a lot. I don't work so hiking or biking are the only things I really go out of the house for anymore. It's so nice being smaller for hiking - some of the trails I use to hike when I weighed 300 pounds and I'm like I was amazing for doing it. Because now it's so "easy" I've become one of "those" people who can carry on a conversation while hiking - I just hated those people before 🙄🤦‍♀️

My food intake is still strange. The other day I overate - I kind of knew it too. I didn't listen to myself and was like I can have 2 more bites, well NO - you can not have 2 more bites! Those 2 bites threw me into an awfulness I don't want to repeat. The 2 bites were vegetables, I have such a hard time getting in veggies, because I need my Protein. Anyone having difficulty with finding the balance of still eating veggies?

Anyway would love to know how everyone is doing heading into this 7th month. Are you loving your "new" improved Life?

Congratulations! I myself had a little setback. I tore my rotator cuff and had surgery 2 weeks ago. For whatever reason, I have a lot of swelling. I did pick up a few pounds prior to the surgery. Stress eating and worrying. I am getting back on track this week and pray that those 3-4 pounds come off this week. It may just be swelling from the surgery itself. I have begun walking again, but I cant do my regular workout for 3 months. Can't run just yet, another 4 weeks for that.

I had gotten down to 187.6. I was 10 pounds away from first goal!! I don't know why I thought that this weight loss would be easy with the surgery. It is still a lot of work! My goal is to get there before October. I have a problem with my Protein too. I just started adding unflavored Protein Powder to many of my meals.

I have not had any negative effects from over eating. I don't know if I am just not over eating or what. I weigh in on Fridays.

I’m doing well! I exercise 6 out of 7 days, and that’s so unlike me 😂. I hated exercise before. Don’t love it now, but I do it! Weight is VERY VERY slowly coming off, but still going down so I can’t complain. Inches are coming off. My large shirts are now getting baggy, so I am going out today to buy some mediums 🤯 that still blows my mind.
I went for my 6 month appointment and was told I should be eating more, between 800-1000 calories a day. Still have a big problem reaching that. Most days I can get to 700 but I’ve hit 800 a couple times. I’m getting plenty of Protein, usually 70-80 a day and they want me to get 60. Was also told to start drinking more electrolytes so trying to get more propel and Gatorade zero in. Was having issues getting severely dizzy, and doc thinks it’s from eating too little and not replenishing electrolytes with me working out so often 🤷🏼‍♀️
I’ll tell you, never in my life did I think a doctor would tell me to eat more lol
I have way more energy, which is exciting! I feel good about how I look (in clothes at least) but I would still love to lose another 20-30 pounds.

    Congratulations!

I have my 5 month check up next week. I'm excited to see the surgeon again and hear what he has to say. I'm having some issues with acid reflux (especially with chocolate:() so I'm going to discuss that with him. I also was 250 on my surgery date. I weight in tomorrow, but my last weigh in I was under 190 so that was super exciting. Don't think I've been that small since early high school. I'm very short 5'2" so I'm assuming to get to at least 150, though 130-140 would be ideal. Glad to hear you guys are doing so well!

Great job!!! I am so excited for you! You may want to update your profile numbers. My reflux on comes from spicy foods and Tomato base. Products. I just take a lot of antacids if I feel I want spaghetti!!

Congrats! We started at about the same weight and have had about the same weight loss. Do you feel good at 190? I wanted to get to 160, but may be okay with 170. Loose skin is not a big issue right not, but it is noticible to me. I'm not sure how my arms and legs will look at 160. I'm 57 years old, so not sure how well my skin is going to snap back! LOL! How old are you? I'm in a size 14, which feels great, but a 12 would be even better, so I definately want to lose another 15-20 pounds. Neither one of us is in a plus size anymore, praise the Lord!!!

Congratulations on you awesome weight loss. I am 55. My weight on the day of surgery was 234. The 252 is pre liquid diet!!! I don't have a a lot of sagging skin either. I credit the working out. I would like to one day get to 160. I say that because everyone has told me that when you get to your lowest weight, you will gain about 20 of them back. I pray not. I will stop when my body says so.

  12. OK guys. So I went for a 5 month check up and I am officially down 60 pounds!!!! I started at 252 and I am now at 191! The doctor is very pleased with my progress... My GP wants me to get to 160. I am good with 175.

I think we can all agree that at this point we are all happy with our decisions!!!! I am down from a size 22w to a size 16, with those getting bigger!!! I can no longer shop in the Plus size department!!!! I have not been this size since middle school!!!

I think you are eating a lot of carbs which are making you hungry - I mean Beans, brown rices, egg muffin (is there a muffin involved) I would try and see if maybe upping your Protein intake, and lowering your carbohydrates intake helps satiate you. Also how many calories a day are you aiming for, I guess if the dietitian thinks it's fine it is but like what you're eating seems like low calories 🤷🏼‍♀️ especially since you workout twice a day.

I don't think snacking is huge problem if you are having healthy Snacks within your daily calorie/carb/protein plan either. But always need to decide is this just because I'm bored or because I'm truly hungry. I myself get hungry which I was hoping would not be the case, I was hoping the feeling of being hungry was going to go away for longer.

LOL!!! The egg muffins have no carbs at all. They consist of eggs, cheese, bacon, mushrooms and spinach. They are made in a muffin tin for convenience, hence the name egg muffins. I rarely count my calories. But when I do it is less than 1,000. I add unflavored Protein to almost everything in an effort to get more protein in.

The nutritionist said to eat when I get hungry. The surgeon said 3 meals per day with few if any Snacks. I have yet to receive a calorie/carb or protein plan. I will mail the nutritionist and ask. What I have found is that the Beans and brown rice (healthy carbs) keep me full longer than say green beans and chicken. Are healthy carbs not good at all? Remember I am only eating a total of 4 oz per meal...

I rarely eat snacks with carbs and they are generally a 100 calorie snack.

Thanks for the info. I will email my nutritionist...

  14. Yes. I am losing 1-2 pounds per week. I am 19 pounds from what the doctor said I will lose with the surgery alone within 18 months. 177lbs is my first goal. I was told that I will lose 75 pounds, give or take, just from the surgery. The remaining 17 pounds that I will need to lose will have to come from my own work. That's why I am worried about getting the eating habits under control now.

What does a day of eating look like for you?

I work out at 5:15 am M-F. On some days I will drink a 4oz Protein Shake on the way home. For breakfast, I normally have an egg muffin (eggs, spinach, mushrooms, cheese and bacon) . Some days I have half a pack of instant grits with a half a slice of cheese (measures 4oz.) I normally have lunch at 1:15. It is 4oz of whatever I have made for dinner for the week Usually something with chicken or beef. I am a big fan of Beans and brown rice. Dinner at about 7-7:30 after a walk/run in the park. It is usually also 4oz of the second meal I made for the week. Usually something with Chicken. I really get what I consider, "Hungry" at about 11 am-11:30 am and about 4-4:30pm. If I give in to the hunger, it is a 100 calorie pack of nuts/with cranberries. I do also sometimes give in to Pork rinds. After I eat dinner, I am soon off to bed so I usually don't eat afterwards. I am still losing and am less than 20 from my initial goal.

I am back to work and that has helped 100%. But when I was In Quarantine I was eating out of boredom. It’s something that is hard to break. And defiantly needs to get under control. I drink Water when I feel I’m hungry. And if I’m hungry after the Water then I’ll check the time and see if I need a meal or a small snack. Like a cheese stick etc

I am glad you are back to work. I am considered essential and therefore have worked the entire time. I do try to drink water first, but I am not always successful. I do get plenty of water throughout the day. Most days I get between 56 and 64 oz. I try not to snack, but there are times when I cannot control it. My doctor believes that you should only have three meals per day with no Snacks. I am just finding it hard to do. How long after a meal do you need a snack?

  17. Is anyone else struggling to get their eating under control? I guess I assumed that after the surgery, I would not have any issues with food. Or at least not like I had before. It has been 4 months since my surgery and I feel as though I am struggling with food. I am beginning to eat out of boredom ass well a emotional eating. I am still losing, but I really feel as though now is the time to get this under control. Any suggestions?

This is beyond a stall at this point. Down only 7lbs in the last 6 weeks. I've been eating right, getting calories in, getting my Protein in, getting my Water in, just not losing. I was working from home for about 6 weeks and the gyms were closed so my activity level went down so I chalked it up to that. However I went back on site 2 weeks ago and have been very active and it's been hot as well. I figured for sure it would kickstart the loss again but nope, 0.4lbs one week and 0.8lbs the next. At my weight it should be falling off and it's not. Extremely frustrating at this point.

I understand the way you feel. What does your nutritionist or doctor say?

That's so nice! I figure the isolation will give me a chance to lose a lot of weight and then surprise everyone when we finally get released.

That's a great idea with the clothing though, it must be so cool to see it coming off so quickly. I've lost a lot of weight thus far, but aside from some shirts fitting more loosely I'm still wearing the same clothes, ah well, I'll get there:) good luck with the continued loss!

With 40lbs gone, there is probably more of a difference that you realize. I had 2 sizes of smaller clothes in my shed. All of them are now sagging. Go to a store that you can return items and buy an inexpensive pair of pants a couple of sizes smaller. When you try them on, you will be amazed!!!! Return them if they are already too large. If too snug, keep them as your guide for measuring inches.

  20. Congratulations!!! I often wonder how much I should have lost at the 4 month mark. I agree with others that suggest that you find something to do that you love. I worked out prior to wls and continued as soon as I could afterwards. I do my workouts early mornings. No excuses. Since I would like to reach my goal by my 6 month mark, I have added walking/running in the afternoons. Best of luck to you...

  21. I am 3 months out on the 20th. My doctor allowed me to begin working out again 6 weeks after surgery with no restrictions. I do a boot camp style of training for 45 minutes daily 5 days per week. Some days we use weights and some days we don't. Most evenings I have been walking for an additional 45 minutes up to an hour. Leslie Sansone has a 5 mile in home walking dvd. It includes toning exercises with weights and bands. You can choose how many miles as well as which tool you want to work out with. The pounds have slowed down, but the inches are coming off great. I am having to remind myself that 1-2 pounds per week is still good considering I wasn't losing at all before...
