  1. I am a nurse on rotating schedules between day shift and night shift, 12 hour shifts. I’m getting ready to go back to nightshift, 7p-730a. Last time I was nightshift, I drank way too much coffee and still was too dangerously tired to drive home. Obviously, everyone else survives on energy drinks. But, we have to watch our caffeine and sugar intake and can’t have carbonation. Any recommendations for energy drinks?? More for the carbonation aspect, I haven’t touched soda and don’t want to start. But, I really need to stay awake lol. I’ll take any advice. Appreciate the help
  2. I am almost 6 months out from my sleeve surgery. I’m down 76lbs!! You are pre-warned, this is a thread on poop and poop problems, lol. I am having bowel movements (BM) every 3 days on average sometimes 2 days or 5-6 days. They’re hard BM too. I am taking stool softener every night, minimum 64 ounces of water daily, 8tsp of fiber daily in the water, pro/pre biotic daily. I don’t know what to do differently/add/subtract. Im terrified of laxatives because I don’t want to start them and not be able to go without them. Any recommendations or advice based on your experience? 😁

    Poop talk

Thank you all!! I think I’m going to start doing miralax every night to be more regular. Hoping that fixes the problem. Does the miralax make the BM softer too?

    Poop talk

Thank you!! I think I may have just developed one from this problem. Any recommendations besides the sitz bath?
  5. I am now 16 days post op of my gastric sleeve! I’m down roughly 22 pounds total, including the 5 from the pre op diet. I can’t sleep on my sides because of joint pain! My hips, knees, and shoulders hurt so much. Even with leg pillows and readjusting, I can’t lay on a side for more than 2 hours. And then everything hurts throughout the day plus some rib pain. Is this normal?
  6. I did get told I would be in some pain after my surgery, manageable pain. Not pain that would send me into a panic attack with whining and tossing every two hours. The kicker is I am very good with pain but this is the worse pain I’ve ever had in my entire life. I haven’t been able to walk or drink as much as they want because of the pain. I am hoping I will get to stay another night but i’m afraid to ask. Help please
  7. My surgery is tomorrow and they called me today to tell me my surgery is still on. Only one change, I will stay in the PACU overnight until I am discharged home. I was supposed to go to a bariatric surgery floor afterwards. I am freaking out, but is it really that big of a deal? I have very bad anxiety to begin with so I feel like the world will end but everyone says I will be okay. Opinions? Recommendations? Please help

    The post op pain

Thankfully my nurse was able to get me a different medication at 4 this morning when it was the worst. I am feeling better I am just scared that they’re pushing me to go home today even though my pain is still not manageable. Thank you guys!!
  9. Background: I’m a 20 year old female with PCOS. Highest weight I’ve ever been at, even with rigorous diet and exercise. My BMI is 40.7 or 42 depending on who measures my height. I have not been diagnosed with hypertension or diabetes so I don’t qualify for surgery, yet. I go for diabetes testing next week and I’m certain I will be diagnosed with it based on family history of diabetes and PCOS. With that diagnosis I would qualify for surgery through my insurance. My doctor gave me two choices: medication weight loss or the gastric sleeve surgery. I don’t know which one to pick and I’m terrified of having to make a choice. I’m scared of medication because I know I cant stay on the meds forever and when I come off the meds I could gain it back. I’m scared of surgery because I think its a big change at the age of 20. Side note: I’m in nursing school(AKA no time for anything), my family does not support me, but my boyfriend does. I currently don’t make my own meals but I could. I really need help and opinions or even stories of young people getting the surgery!!

    What age was yours?

Thank you all so much! I think this is definitely going to help me make my decision, which I'm hoping is the sleeve. Now just to work on my family's biases! ❤️

My insurance says BMI of >35 and >40 has to have a complication diagnosis. BMI of 50 is when there doesn’t have to be a complication
