They have a lot of good options and their produce is usually cheaper than other stores, at least in my area. Also, their Protein Powder is pretty decent for 170 calories a serving and 30g of Protein.

I actually developed a sun allergy after getting the sleeve. Puffy eyes, itchy welts on neck and chest progressing to arms and legs and eventually feet if I continue to expose my skin.

The only answer I found was to keep covered outdoors. I even found a long sleeve swim top.

If you are not sure Gastric Bypass is what you want, perhaps you should cancel surgery. This is a life long choice and you need to be committed to it.
Your Doc works for you. Doc is your expert. Doc gave you an educated and experienced opinion on which surgery is best for you. Doc gave you reasons for the surgery suggested.
You need to be your own advocate.
If you don't want RNY, don't get it. No one is forcing you to have surgery.
If you want VSG, tell your Doc that's what you want.
This is a LIFE LONG choice you have to live with. You better be 100% sure about your choice.
    Good luck,
    Tek

Hi there. For me it was the other way around - I really wanted the bypass but my care team determined that it was medically contraindicated for me. I tried hard to change their minds but in the end I went with their recommendation. I was disappointed, but it turned out okay, I didn't have any major complications and the surgery has been effective so far.
However, in my case, there was an actual medical reason why the bypass was extra-risky for me. I got a 2nd opinion and the 2nd doctor agreed it was contraindicated. In your case, it sounds like the surgeon just feels the bypass will be more effective? If there is no medical contraindication, it seems like after being told the pros and cons, you would be allowed to choose the surgery you want. What would happen if you just said, "Look, I understand your reasoning, but I'm not comfortable with the bypass. I want the sleeve."? Would he refuse to do it? Could you get a 2nd opinion? Maybe if another doctor indicates that the sleeve is a viable option for you, your surgeon will relent. Have you shared your concerns about the bypass with your surgeon? Maybe with more information, you'll be more comfortable with it?
In any case, it doesn't seem right for you to be forced into a surgery you're not sure you want. You're the one who has to live with it, so you should be calling the shots (assuming there's no medical issue preventing the sleeve). I'd revisit the issue and get more information, then decide for myself one way or the other. Hope it all works out for you!

Circlesis reacted to NovaLuna in DS 10/13, anyone else?
I'm almost 9 months out. Just had my 9 month check up and found out I once again have a potassium deficiency (it showed up in my labs in my 3 month check up, disappeared in 6 month check up, and is back in the 9 month check up...), bright side though is the Vitamin A deficiency that I had in my 6 month labs is gone and my levels are normal again with only taking extra Vitamin A every two days. In every lab my Calcium has been high. After the three month lab I went from 3 calcium pills down to two and now they want me to cut it by a half so now it's 1.5 calcium pills. I also have slightly elevated Iron even though I was alternating my iron multi's by taking 1 one day and 2 the next. They told me to just take 1 a day and if it's elevated still at my year labs they'll have me do 1 every other day. Also, forewarning that despite the fact they claim dumping syndrome doesn't happen with DS I call bullsh*t! If I eat wheat I get dumping syndrome so I avoid it like the plague because trust me when I say you don't want to experience it! My trigger is not going to be everyone elses though and not everyone will experience it. I'm just unlucky like that... Bright side though is that since surgery I've lost 102 pounds (and 68 prior to surgery) and only have 39 more to go to reach my personal goal!

GNC lean shakes are lactose free and 25 grams Protein. I like the strawberry flavor but there are several to choose from. These are ready made and quite thin, which is what I like about them. Easy to drink.

So good to hear your updates! Glad you’re managing work okay! Liquids was the worst. Once I started being able to eat, the heartburn got much better. Rarely is it an issue now. My doc sped along my food reintroductions since he said it was designed for people who had healing stomach lines, not for restriction. So now I’m at soft solids. So I pretty much eat anything soft, no breads Pasta rice etc or processed foods. I’ll live here a while. Down 20lbs. I make a nice Protein smoothie and then usually have one meal. No major hunger in between. If I snack, it’s something like yogurt.

I'm 5'7, 250 and am having the DS on the 26th. I decided on doing this (along with my physician) as the results are longer lasting and I have Type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure. Health wise, this is the best option.

Same here- i believe my original surgeon was just comfortable with the sleeve and bypass, and even then he just felt because of my age i should do the sleeve I knew i needed something else based on my research. I would have done one surgery and been done.

I had the traditional DS and take 3 Vitamins a day,(calcium, ADEK, B12), and my blood panel is great. I'm three years post-op and have only regained 5 pounds. I've never been able to control my weight and not feel deprived, but the DS has solved that problem. My BMI was only 40 when I had my surgery.

Post op day 7 update: returned to work today and survived it. My main issue right now is a terrible reaction to the Dermabond surgical glue. The itch and red bumps with rash are horrid!!

Applying cortisone cream and trying to pick off all the glue (doctor said it’s ok).

Other than that I have progressed to full liquids and they go down just fine. Occasionally throughout the day I get a serious of slightly sharp pangs in the abdomen. Not sure but hoping this is just part of the healing process.

Using Tylenol only except now nights since the horrible inflamed glue itch started. Switched from pain pills on days 4-5.

    On ward!

My sleeve surgery was yesterday and I’m still in the hospital. When my surgeon stopped by she said while they were operating they found a lesion on my liver. Now I need an MRI so they can classify it as malignant or benign. They said I should heal from sherry before I get the MRI... I’m so worried and waiting will be so hard.

I would like to add too that during the pre and post op diet stages you will detox all of the sugar and junk out of your system completely.

As you add foods back in during the weeks after surgery, you will ultimately choose what will be part of your new normal diet.

Quick update! Surgery was Tuesday morning and stayed in hospital until 4pm next day. Home now and doing well. Doc only added the DS of intestines so nothing else was touched. There had been talk of possibly resleeve or remove gallbladder.

First day I felt amazing and was up walking around like a champ. Day 2 was the worst so far. Bad heartburn but the nurse was able to get me a dose a Maalox.

As of now I am sleeping in bed but up in a sitting position with pillows. Omeprazole is working to control reflux.

Did anyone else do a swallow test while still in the hospital? Lingering diarrhea from the barium liquid.

Been drinking pedialyte mixed with 50% Water which is working really well for me.

    Onward!

These are good suggestions, also if you wish to avoid lard you can go with a bowl of charro bean Soup or some places have chicken tortilla soup. You will fill up very fast so just be mentally prepared. Enjoy!

Get rid of them. During my weight loss, I donated everything that no longer fit and bought a few second-hand items just so I had something that fit until I lost more.
One word of warning: I bought lots of new clothes when I reached my lowest weight of 132. Then I had a 10-pound gain during maintenance before settling in at 142. I would recommend waiting until you have been on maintenance for a while before splurging on a whole new wardrobe.

Yay @gottabeblair so happy. Sounds like you had a super smooth procedure. Sorry about the reflux but hopefully will subside! Curious if you are having any bathroom issues with it? How much do you want to lose with his revision?

I did a one week preop, pretty easy. I think I lost about 5. Surgery early tomorrow morning. Hopefully with a nice easy recovery!

Hey everyone... just checking in. I had my revision to DS Loop on 9/29. It wasn’t nearly as painful as my original VSG with hiatal hernia repair. My abdomen is sore of course but I’m able to walk, shower, bend somewhat... without major pain. I was released 9/30 afternoon. I had to go solo due to Covid but they let my husband stay with me in the lobby and in the next room up until I had to get IVs and be wheeled off. So that was nice. Because after that was anesthesia, surgery and morphine so it wouldn’t have mattered if he were there or not lol. I slept a lot. I’m at home recovering nicely. My tummy does feel a little weird, like something got shifted. But the only pain I feel are the incision marks. I do have a on again off again headache. And the acid reflux is new. I didn’t have this before and I am praying it goes away because it is painful. Acid just comes up sometimes and it burns. My doc said it should subside as the swelling goes down. They didn’t touch my sleeve. So I’m able to drink and gulp and it not hurt my tummy but it does feel weird so I limit it to small sips only. I do have to follow the usual post-op diet but I didn’t have to do the pre-op diet. It was optional for me but I did it anyway so I could lose and I lost about 10 lbs. I’ll try to keep you all updated and respond to any questions. Thanks for your support!
