  1. Finally caved and bought some new pants over the weekend. Down 70 from pre-op, buckling down to get as much off before the 6 month mark as possible as my doc said it pretty well stops there. I’m 15 lbs away from his benchmark goal for my 6mo follow up.

I have NOT been a good patient. Between switching jobs, helping with my nephews, and going back to school to get my teaching license, I have really dropped off on the walking. Sat down with my planner this week and designated an hour each day - wish me luck!

My wife and I are also 1 week out from surgery and we are definitely getting the Water and Protein in. We always have Water on hand and drink all day long, except for when we are working on our Protein Drinks. If it is so difficult I would suggest getting smaller Protein Shots. I have seen them but not tried them though. A Protein water would also work to help with the Fluid intake requirement but my wife and I have not been able to drink them since we had surgery. We take our time getting our shakes in and it takes at least 1 hour if not 1 1/2 hours to get one 12 oz Protein Shake in.

Thank you!! I will have to look into the protein shots. I did much better today (48oz of water so far and 50g protein), but it’s still been a struggle. At 9 days post op I thought this would be going more smoothly, but small steps I suppose.

  3. Ok y’all... I’m a week out from surgery, and I’m still barely able to get the minimum 48oz of Water, not even approaching my Protein goal (lucky to get in 30/40g).

Any advice? I start sipping before I even get out of bed in the mornings, alarm goes off every 15 minutes, and it still isn’t working. I still have one more week before I can even start on purées and I’m struggling.

  4. Was sleeved on 11/10, and got to come home yesterday (11/12). I’m feeling great and working on getting in my liquids and Protein, but I’m hurting in one incision.

The largest incision that my doctor told me he pulled the excess stomach from is giving me a fit. I can’t even bend over to pull on a pair of leggings or socks. It gives me a sharp, shooting, burning pain all through that area. I know he had to cut muscle to get the excess out, but how long will it hurt like that? Like, it’s about to be cold here in TN y’all. 🤪

Also, gas pain. I’ve been walking and walking, but I still feel like I have gas trapped in my upper chest and I can’t burp! Like, I’ve even tried to gulp air to make myself burp and it isn’t working. No problems with the other end, but any advice with upper chest gas pockets?

  5. Hey all!! Had my sleeve done today at St Thomas Midtown in Nashville.

I’m still very sore, and had some lingering nausea while in recovery, but I’m currently sipping my hospital tray broth. The warmth feels great on my throat, and is helping me burp to get rid of some of the gas they inflated me with. Sitting and and walking really help with the gas too. My dr requires me to walk 4x/day while I’m in the hospital recovering, and about 5 minutes every hour I’m awake when I go home.

Hang in there everyone! It’s going to be so worth it in the end! 💕

Hello fellow November’s. I would like to have some accountability partners who are in approximately the same phase of the WLS journey as me. So far this post has kinda served that purpose but going forward we will all probably be posting in the thread of interest on this forum versus this post. I started a Face book group, Bari Buddies, if anyone would be interested in comparing notes, Q&A, moral support, and accountability during our journeys. This is the link if you would be interested. https://www.facebook.com/groups/411774243154346/?ref=share

That’s a great idea! I just hit the join button. 😊 I’ve been scouring for post-surgery liquid diet recipes. Surgery on the 10th so getting to crunch time! 😬

That's a good mantra. I'm going to start using it as well. I wonder if my new stomach is going to like eggs. I use to eat eggs almost every day. It's so strange to me that we have to discover our stomachs anew.

Finished day 2 of my pre-op today, and I’ve got the worst headache I’ve had in some time.

On mine I get one RTD Protein Shake as is, mix one RTD with 8oz unsweetened soy milk, one snack (2 pieces deli meat and a string cheese, 3/4 cup cottage cheese, 6oz Greek yogurt, or a Nature Valley Protein Bar), and one meal (3-6 oz lean meat and 1-1 1/2 cup non-starch veggies). Must have 64oz Water a day. Unlimited sugar free Jello, popsicles, herbal tea, and broth.

I have 10 more days of this diet before swapping to straight liquids, but I’ve found adding some dried seasonings to my broth makes it feel a little more filling.

    Hang in there everyone!!!

How long do you have to do the straight liquids?

Only two days on straight liquids! Last two days before surgery.
