Julie1292 reacted to BAA624 in Panniculectomy worth it?
Sure, I paid about $6900 after my insurance paid for the panniculectomy. That was the out of pocket portion to convert to a full Tummy Tuck. I paid my deductible and coinsurance for the insurance approved portion (my deductible was $400).

In total, all of the skin removal (tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift, and liposuction of the back and neck/chin) was around $28,000.

You could ask about a panneculectomy and add on abdominplasty. That would address upper abdomen skin with out the vertical scar….

Julie1292 got a reaction from JomaraElizabeth in Roux-en-y vs sleeve HELP!!!
I would go with bypass. I had a sleeve in 2013. I did lose 80 pounds but that still had me at 220. Then I developed some discomfort swallowing and I ended up with bile reflux and a large hiatal hernia ... my surgeon said the chances of bile reflux are higher with sleeve because the stomach is under more pressure with a sleeve. a Bypass can be reversed if necessary. A sleeve cannot. Once that stomach is removed, it’s gone. But note that a sleeve can be converted to a bypass later. ..... ultimately if you have 100 or more to lose, bypass would be the way to go.

August 4th for this girl. Conversion from sleeve to RYN, with large type III hernia repair. Everything went great. I feel great but have lots of limitations until hernia repair heals. Doing 3-4 walks a day. Best part... I am getting out of vacuuming and scooping cat boxes for a few more weeks! Dr’s orders.

16 lbs is normal. I think people have a skewed perception because of shows like "My 600 Lb Life", but you have to remember those people start out at a MUCH higher BMI than the typical WLS patient. Although there are outliers on either side, most of us lose somewhere in the 15-25 lb range that first month. I lost 16 lbs, like you, even though I started out heavier than you. And I ended up losing all of my excess weight. So don't fret - it's your level of commitment that determines your ultimate success, not your rate of weight loss. You are doing just fine!

I agree with catwoman, I think the smaller stomach and changes to hunger hormones and insulin processing are all immediate changes after surgery for most people. I am only a few weeks post op and eating about 600-650 calories right now in puréed diet and I am not hungry. I did feel hungry sometimes on the liquids only diet, for the first few weeks.

    Hi,
I also had that fear and just fear of the unknown ( will I be the only one to experience severe pain, will I have to be readmitted to er for not getting enough Water and nutrients, what if the gas and bloating never ends.....) among other thoughts. Now I’m 3 days post op and am having to remind myself that I had major surgery and that it’s going to take time to heal. I’m reminding myself of this everyday. Today, my pain seems more bearable, but I have only been able to take my Vitamins, medications and eat a popsicle. I have been walking more around my house.
I will be praying that your fear subsides soon, and that each day will get better and better for you.
    You got this!

Julie1292 got a reaction from Corrine2020 in Recent RNY - How ya doing?
I had RYN on 8/4. 2 weeks today. Down 7 pounds. Eating about 500-600 calories and not hungry. Getting 55-70 grams of Protein. I had thought maybe I would be losing a little quicker but I think the first week I lost all the Water and inflammation from surgery.... and this 2nd week I haven’t lost anything. I am walking 3 times a day. I had a large hiatal hernia repaired at the same time so I have limitations on physical activity for a few more weeks. I feel good. No pain.

I had my surgery less then 24 hours ago, intact I am writing this in the hospital, after surgery the pain is unbearable, I am dry heaving everything with a little bit of throw up. Walking to move the air out is unbearable, I know it’s temporary but this is the worst pain I have ever been in, and I have had 4 C-sections. My doctors are great, and did remind me that I will be going home with hella Water retention. So weight loss may not show right away. Currently I am staying strong though.

I have not but I've been hanging out here for several years, so I've read a lot of posts about them. Basically, they work for some people but not for others. I guess the only way to tell is to try them and then if your blood values start heading in the wrong direction, then you'll have to switch to oral supplements. If your values are stable or improve, then obviously they're working for you..
