I had my surgery about 12 years ago.
-
Hi, is there anyone in here tonight??
-
I had the gastric bypass. Its been 12 years. I gained a few pounds not much, I'm still in my ideal weight range. So I think the bypass is great. I got the bypass instead of the sleeve because I wanted quick results. I don't know if this is a good reason to get it done but it worked for me. My son just got the balloon done and he loves it. Although I had the bypass I would get the sleeve or the balloon and lose it slowly. Mentally, its very hard to lose all that weight in such a short period. I lost 140 pounds in under a year. It took a lot to getting used to...to tell you the truth I still struggle and its been 12 years.

I guess it helped that I still cannot eat a lot of sugar, oil, etc. So really I have no choice.

For real follow your doctors directions!!! I have had quite a few friends who had the surgery around the same time I did. Most of them regained their weight. I listened to my doctor....because I was scared. I kept my weight off.

Other than that I have been feeling well physically. I have a couple of hernias. They won't operate but Its not intolerable. Have to weigh the pros and the cons I guess.

Soooo I had my gallbladder out....felt better and have not had a problem since.

Gall stones are a big thing after surgery. Most people I know post op have had Gall stone. I had them. Hernia is another thing. I have two herias but they won't operate because of all the post op scarring from the surgery...so I just have to hold my stomach when I sneeze. There are pros and cons because of this surgery

does anyone but me feel this way.

I am used to the way I eat. I am used to not eating for pleasure....I must say I still miss it. It sucks.

I wish I had someone that had YEARS out before I got the surgery. Although It helped me in a multitude of ways it also hindered me in a lot of reasons. I think they should of had way more in the way of mental health.
Their checkup before surgery was a joke...they did not prepare you in any way of what you would be going through mentally.

I'm glad to hear you have had success after 60. I am 56 and had my surgery about 12 years ago. Physically I feel find. but the emotional stuff I went through was ALOT.

I think you are better off with the sleeve. I think its better to lose the weight slowly. I think losing the weight so quickly is not good on a mental level. Its hard when it happens so quickly.

does anyone else agree with me??

I am doing well. though I think they do not do the mental pre-op well at all. That is what you suffer with more than anything
