Maybe you will feel better about your decision after your have some time to adjust. My husband and I used to love going out to eat big meals and buffets. He got esophageal cancer so he can only eat really small amounts. We very rarely go out to eat now. Maybe you and your friends can find other non meal activities to enjoy. Your stomach will hold more as time goes on, but I don’t think it will stretch very much.

    Hello,
I had my surgery in October 2014. I went from a 14/16 plus size and 244lbs at 5’5.5” to a size 6 170lbs. In 2015 I became disabled and depressed. I lost my career and independence, social life... I was put on many medications that caused me to gain 60lbs in two months. After 1 and A half years I weighed over 300 pounds. I was disgusted. The medications were damaging my liver so my husband suggested to go vegan. Three years Later I’m a size 8 and I weigh 169 pounds. I don’t even know how I did it but I did and I wanted to share it with you all. Because you can do it to! Just never give up and make small changes and soon the small changes will become your new habits. I was only vegan for one year. Then I started ensure plus and cooked a healthy dinner. My health problems do interfere with my appetite so I guess that helps a little. But I have my restriction back and my latest report from the doctor was that all my labs are normal including my liver. The picture shows me in July 2017 and me in December 2020. I’d like to stay in touch with the others who are striving to maintain your health. I’m looking for a support system because I don’t have anyone else who’s been through what I’ve been through but I know you’re out there.

Okay, so it's been two full weeks on the WW program and I've lost 3 pounds. I'm happy with that rate of loss and feel like it'll increase now that I'm transitioned fully from a no-carb diet to a more well-rounded diet as there would have been a period where I would have gained weight when reintroducing carbs. Overall it's easy to do, kinda fun to track and measure and explore. Plus you can't beat the variety of foods you're allowed to have.
    Anybody else doing WW?

AnewAngela reacted to TheRealMeIsHere! in When did you get back to exercise?
Motivation is the key to long term success. It's been eight years since I've been overweight. I'm now at a point where I do NOT have uncontrollable cravings & am able to eat what I want as long as I balance the 'splurges' with healthy choices. Exercise is also key to long term success, as your weight goes down, your body will use less calories in general, exercise will fill in that growing gap between what you take in and what you burn off.

Then find something that you can enjoy and stick with. It is vitally important to change your relationship with food & exercise, one small step at a time, right from the start. Otherwise, the surgery was for nothing. The surgery is a tool only.

I’d argue it’s not even motivation. Motivation comes and goes. Discipline is what gets you to your goals. Doing what you need to do even when you don’t feel like it.

i used aeno scar cream from retail manufacture store, it is rish on different pure oіls (cocоnut, jojоba, оlive etc). You can see results before/after below. This prоduct has done a miraculous job in minimizing the scar I have after surgery. I highly recommend this crеam for all scars, old and new.

I don't travel AT ALL for my job - I'm jelly BTW - but my hubby does. Is there a way that your company can book you into one of those extended stays or something with a kitchenette?

I don’t travel for work, but travel a lot for fun. I’ve usually tried to stick with a routine for Breakfast, lunch and Snacks. I always do a Protein Shake mixed with cold brew coffee for breakfast, that’s easy enough to do on the road. Lunches, while maybe not the healthiest, have still fit in plan-things like yogurt, nuts, and Jerky. For dinner I do my research by looking up menus before I go out and find something that fits in plan. appetizers often fit the bill, and the portions are small. I also try to incorporate lots of walking on trips and keep up my Water intake.

Hi Liza, yes - I travel quite often for work and travelled a LOT starting a few weeks after surgery. For me, as soon as I could start eating "real" food, it was HARD to resist the temptation to order whatever looked good off a menu vs. what I should eat. For the first few months, I got most of my food to go and just went back to the room, ate what I could in 20-30 minutes and then threw away the rest of it. Why? Because I eat when I'm bored and if I left it in my fridge, I would hav gradually eaten all of it over the course of several hours.
Now, honestly, it's even harder because I can eat what would be considered a "normal" portion to most skinny people (I still have lots of restriction). What I have to watch for at work when traveling is grazing. So often customer have foo or Snacks out and again... if it's there, I'll eat it. I also tend to eat much more salt when I travel (restaurants, prepared food) and find that when I get back home, I'll sometimes be as much as 2-3 pounds up even when I was good. Drink Water for a couple of days and I'll easily drop that and usually another pound. I also seem to retain a lot more water when I'm flying.
So, you're not alone.... What's worked for me:
    1. Throw away leftovers if you can't control yourself.
    2. Buy the large bottles of water or bring a large water bottle with you - Make sure you're actually drinking it!
    3. Grocery stores are great - I love Fresh Market or Whole Foods for their prepared food (salmon and green Beans are my go to there). Publix also sells premade small salads that are the perfect size and have a good amount of Protein.

Over the course of a year, I'm pretty close to my goal weight and probably traveled at least 30 weeks of that. It takes some trial and error to see what works best for you.

I think many of us have had some regain in one form or another. For ALL of us, once the surgery stops working it's completely up to us.
Post op 7 years next week, when I was losing I thought I was invincible and had no fear of regain. But I lost a parent, changed jobs, changed jobs again, went to night shift, went to grad school, dealt with all kinds of things, and the 'eat all things in small amounts' went out the window.
I had to fully commit to a very specific PERMANENT very low carb lifestyle. I lost all my regain and more, but I have eaten only a ketogenic level lifestyle for the last 6 years. I am not one of those patients who loses their weight and can resume eating all things just in tiny amounts. I have to work at staying very low carb, no sugar, almost no fruit, no starchy veg, no bread/rice/pasta/oats/grains etc. I basically eat meat, green veg, eggs, cream/butter, and a high Protein Shake with Water or almond milk daily. it's a tight regimen but it works for me.
Remember your WHY. find it and recommit. you totally got this!

You look ridiculously fabulous, lady. I looooooove the fit/strong look, and have fantasies of looking like that myself, but in all honestly, i HATE strength training/lifting (I'm more of a cardio gal). I force myself to do it though, because I know it produces results. Maybe one day I may grow to like it and do more. In the meantime I can drool over your arms. ❤️ Nice work!

    What are your sources?
Cuz there is a doctor in Newcastle who did a study on diabetics where he reduced their diets to 800 and had them eat a more Mediterranean protocol. It effectively reversed the diabetes in many of them. The key was calorie restriction, but it was also important to have a lower Protein from more fish rather than red meats or a western diet mix. So much lower in fat with different fat composition. The diet has a seriously low calorie density (high Fiber, low fat, lots of veggies, fruits, legumes) and seriously high nutrient density.
I am aware that in the absence of carbs, protein requires calories to metabolize for energy. I guess my prob with what you're saying is that all carbs are created equal and that all calories are created equal and that just isn't the case. The amount of processing, the glycemic index and the glycemic load all play into how badly our bodies are effected by them. The degree to which we are metabolically broken is also important.
I do believe we must all have a caloric restriction/macro restriction to lose--especially if we are MO...

You hit the nail on the head - 100 cals of sucrose will cause an insulin spike and all sorts of other things BUT 100 calories is 100 calories and over a long enough time period any diet lower in calories taken in than calories used will make someone lose weight given that everything else is equal (no PCOS or Diabetes or the like).
There was a professor at K-State that lost something like 50 pounds on junk food just to prove this point.

I agree on healthier swaps but another tool is to divide up the candy into separate little baggies. If you have the willpower to let yourself have 10 M &Ms or 3 pieces of sour candy a day then you can look forward to that tiny treat but stop and really enjoy that tiny portion. Honestly if you had a big portion you stop really tasting it after a few bites anyway. This could be a dangerous path for some but it works for me. NEVER eat straight from a box or bag, always put what you are going to eat into a separate dish so you can visually see how much you are eating.
