  1. My mom doesn't know about my WLS, but every time I see her she says "I hope you don't want to lose anymore." She's been saying this for the last 20lbs. LOL! She's a bit of an a$$hole sometimes! LOL! She's been commenting on my weight (too thin, too fat, etc) and my body type ("You are soooo high waisted" "Your boobs are soooo big") my entire life. I basically say "BYE" and leave when she starts up with her nonsense.
I haven't really seen many people b/c of Covid, so fingers crossed that everyone is kind!
Lol!!! Yes! That's exactly where my negative comments are coming from! I love my mom dearly but she can also sometimes be a bit of an a hole as well [emoji23] good to know I'm not alone, thank you [emoji3590]

  2. I did look drawn & pasty when I was losing weight (worst were the ones from people thinking I had a mortal disease) but my colour & face shape improved greatly when I settled into maintenance.
Depending on what they said I usually responded with something about feeling so well now I’m in the healthy weight range & thanked them for noticing my hard work. Yep, at times I was a bit b*tchy but only when their comments were really upsetting & intrusive.
I still get comments about looking sick from ‘well meaning’ family friends. Unfortunately, I have glaucoma & the drops give you dark bruising shadows around your eyes. (concealer doesn’t really cover it). So I have a legitimate reason to give them in response but it’s still annoying because they tie it to the weight loss.
Yes, that's the biggest issue is people thinking I'm dying of something (I am a pretty pale person too so that probably doesn't help). That is very good to know thank you so very much. I may have been being a bit sensitive as well due to it being *that time of month* lol. I appreciate your reply!

  3. Most people never said I looked like I lost too much except for one person. Most would say things like “you must be close to your goal by now” and I’d respond “yes, pretty close.” The for the one person that continually told me I was losing too much I finally heard enough and said to her, “look, you never bothered to tell me I was gaining too much weight so your opinion doesn’t really matter to me and I’d appreciate it if you quit commenting on my weight because I’m beginning to feel harassed.”That shut her up. Now days people usually just say something about what a great job I’ve done or how I inspired them to stick to a diet. When people ask how much I’ve lost I always just say, “a lot” or “more than I weigh now!”
Awesome that is a fantastic response, I may have to use it!! Thank you so much

  4. My first year I *did* look sick, nothing like I looked before. A manager in another city did the same operation 8 months ahead of me without my knowing and he looked sick.
While we may be feeling better, our bodies are going through tremendous stresses and may make us look sick compared to our well fed former selves. Seeing us 6-12 months ago and now can be quite a shock.
I took it as concern, not judgement. I would just say I was feeling good and move on. Others would say I was looking good, to which I would just say I was feeling good and move on.
Not every honest perception that is not favorable is 'judgement.'
Of course, y'all know who you hang with and how their minds work.
    Good luck,
    Tek

Thank you so much this helps a bunch

  5. Alright so I had my VSG in January and attended my first large function since the surgery last night. I did get compliments on my appearance but also received some "you look sick/anorexic/too thin" comments from family (it was a cousins wedding). I am content with my weight right now, although I am currently trying to up my Protein and build more muscle, but overall I feel fantastic. I plan on having one more child in the near future so I know I will put weight on during that process, so I kinda want to tell people to just back off but I'm a very timid person, so my question for everyone is, how do you deal with comments like this? I honestly wasn't really sure how to respond and felt kinda upset but I see where they are coming from, especially since they haven't seen me in a while. Anyhow, sorry for the long post, any tips are greatly appreciated!

  6. Hey everyone! I'm about 8 months post op and down 110 lbs (which I'm ecstatic about!). I do have a bit of loose skin in the belly area and seem to be getting some kind of rash or infection in/around my belly button. I'm definitely documenting it and taking pics for possible insurance coverage of plastic surgery later, but my obgyn advised not to do any before I get pregnant again (I want one more child). In the meantime, I need to figure out how to stop these skin issues! Anyone have any experience or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

  7. Thanks good luck with your surgery. I’ve got seven more days
I was the same way as you are now. Pre op was honestly the worst part for me. I was on a liquid diet for 7 days pre op and I did break down and buy a few of those tuna creations pack and for a few days I would substitute that for one of my drinks. Just make sure they're very high Protein and low sugar and carbs (the flavors have different amounts). I'm not trying to tempt you, just letting you know I was there too and it ended up working out for me, I had surgery on schedule and lost 11 lbs on the 7 day pre op diet. Best of luck, hang in there.

  8. Hi everyone, I'm kinda new only and posted a few times, I had VSG on 8/19 and so far everything has been going smoothly for my healing.
I found these awesome little containers at my local Home Goods and I also saw them at TJ Maxx the same day and really wanted to share. (Yesterday 8/31/20) They were in the housewares section by the rest of the tupperware style containers. I think they were $3.99 and it comes with 12 they are freezer, microwave, and I think dishwasher safe, although they are easy enough to wash by hand lol. They fit appropriately 1/3 cup (I measured) which is about 2.5 oz I believe. I plan on using them to freeze some shredded/pureed chicken for lunches when I go back to work. But I really wanted to share because they are cheap, reusable, and perfect size. [emoji16]

  9. Congrats! That's awesome! I finally broke into the 170s. Those last few pounds in the low 180's took forever, but I am confident about moving forward. I am quite a bit shorter than you, so I think I still have a ways to go to hit that weight victory. Won't give up though!
Awesome!! Congratulations!! Definitely I think confidence and a positive attitude are key! Do you feel better? Like more energy and just better overall? I'm honestly amazed at the differences I feel in mood and energy compared to before. I'm so happy for all of us. Here's to new beginnings!

  10. Currently awaiting approval through insurance for VSG. As I get closer, I get more nervous. This will be my first surgery and first time going under the gas being put out. Other than that, I am just trying to gain additional insight on how to prepare and what is popular post op such as Vitamins and getting in those grams of Protein immediately after surgery.

Nerves are perfectly normal, you've got this!! I found this guy's YouTube channel when I was preparing myself for my own surgery, and out of the VSG channels I've seen, his is my favorite and super accurate with no b.s... I'll post the link for one of his videos but the channel is called Fighting 400, he details everything from pre op diet to Vitamins to the surgery and recovery. Best wishes

  11. Hey everyone, hope you're all doing well! I just wanted to check in and share a personal victory of mine! I have officially made it into the "healthy weight" BMI bracket for the first time in... well pretty much ever! [emoji23] I do need to still work on getting enough Protein and Water (sometimes I just simply forget to drink) but overall I feel much much better than I did before my sleeve, and I'm pretty pumped about fitting into a medium again!! Anyhow, I hope you're all having a great summer!

  12. Can someone please give me the lowdown on a couple of actual surgical questions? How many incisions are made? How big are they and where are they? Of the two surgical consultations, neither doctor really went over this with me (and truthfully, I didn't think to ask). How long do the external incisions take to heal? How long do you take to heal internally? Are you in a lot of pain on the inside or out (aside from gas pain or overeating, etc.)? I've read stories about some people being in pain for weeks and others "rollin' in the hay 3 days later", so I honestly don't know what to expect! I know I won't be doing the latter! LOL!!!

Hi!! I had my VSG done on January 8 of this year along with a hernia repair (so my experience may be a bit different). I had five incisions: one in the middle of my belly up towards my ribs/bra line, then the other four were in a line, level with my belly button, about 4 inches apart. The incisions themselves are about a half an inch except for the one that they remove your stomach from, that one is a bit larger, maybe an inch or so (that one was the most sore). I had a bit of bruising around the top incision and the larger one of the four, but not much around the others. My surgeon used surgical glue which fell off within a couple weeks and the wounds were healed, barely any scars. Hope that helps at least a little bit, take care!

  13. I won't miss:
chafing thighs and other bits, being self conscious everywhere I go, worrying if I'll be able to ride amusement park rides with my son, not being able to physically keep up with my son, being embarrassed to run into people from the past... Honestly I think I could go on and on lol

  14. Yep, I also experienced this and have seen many other posts about it so I think it's pretty common. It's almost like being in mourning or breaking up with a partner. I can't remember exactly when it stopped, but I definitely remember thinking "why did I do this, I just want cheeseburger" lol. It does get better, I promise, especially when you start seeing your body's transformation and have more energy [emoji3531]

  15. You've got this [emoji3531] it's super hard those first two weeks on liquids, I also felt ravenous and wanted to eat everything (or so my brain told me), any food commercial made my mouth Water and cooking for my son also was tough. At one point (don't judge please lol) I even chewed a cheese puff and spit it out [emoji23] one of my favorite things during liquid phase was Tomato Soup with unflavored Protein Powder. I'm sorry I'm not more help, just know that when you get to the pureed stage you will definitely feel more satisfied and full. [emoji3531]
