    So disappointed in people

Although I read about other people in our lives not being supportive or downright jealous of us having our surgeries, it sure hurts when it happens to you. I'm especially surprised with how my co-workers are treating me. I'm a happy-go-lucky person who's always willing to lend a hand to people I care about & I am very tenderhearted as well so this is hitting me especially hard. My co-workers are being rude when asked about covering my shifts while I'm off for surgery. I work at a little library with a small amount of staff and our jobs are really not that stressful so it's not like they are going to have to expend a whole bunch of energy or break a sweat working my shift. A group of co-workers even approached our director expressing "concern" that the surgery is too dangerous and that I shouldn't have it done which really baffled me since no one ever brought that up with me. Now I know that they just don't want to cover for me & are worried I'll be out longer that anticipated. I came in on Monday walking on a cloud because I finally got my surgery date & no one could be bothered to show any enthusiasm at all. I have a co-worker who I've worked with for 5 years & I considered her to be one of my best friends. I've planned her work bridal shower and baby showers. I went to the hospital to see her first-born. She gripes constantly about her husband & I'm right there supporting her. We've done plenty of stuff together socially as well, so she's not just a work friend. In the past I've asked her for very small favors here & there and she's rarely helped me out but I asked so infrequently that it never really bothered me. I, of course, have helped her happily whenever she needed me. Well, her true colors are shining now that the surgery is approaching. I've been careful not to talk her ear off about the surgery because I can see that being super annoying. Whenever I bring it up now she just grunts in response and goes right back to talking about herself. I've asked her for two small favors in regards to the surgery and she's too inconvenienced to do either one. I am really, really hurt by her actions. Another friend is acting jealous & responded to the news of my surgery with "I'll be interested to see how it goes for you". I haven't told friends on social media yet and now I'm definitely not going to. This will be a road I walk down with my husband on one side & my mom on the other cheering me on. I'll be just fine and I will succeed in spite of everyone's attitudes towards this huge step in my life. I'm really glad I found this community & I'm really glad you've read this far! Thanks for letting me vent!
  2. This may be extremely commonplace, but did anyone have an incision that was closed & stitched to your abdominal wall so that your stomach looks indented in that spot? Besides general soreness in my stomach, that incision is the only place that hurts & boy, does it hurt! The surgeon said that incision was the one used to cut out the stomach, remove it, & work the staple gun. But I’m not sure why they had to stitch it to my abdominal wall. Once it feels better, I’ll be feeling great.
  3. Because protein drinks will be consumed slowly after surgery, I’d like to find out what y’all used to keep your protein drinks cold while you sipped, sipped, & sipped some more. They taste so much better cold!

    Reality Is Setting In

Out of everything I packed, I used my chapstick, lotion, & phone/charger the most. I had a 2 day hospital stay.

    Anyone for September 2020?

How’s everyone who’s already had your surgery doing? I had my surgery Wednesday & came home Friday afternoon. As Saturday has progressed I’ve found myself feeling really hungry. I think it’s because I’m not allowed to start my protein shakes/powders until Monday. Protein really helps me feel full so I’m looking forward to that. My main incision still hurts a lot but other than that I physically feel really good. I hope everyone else is doing well!

    So disappointed in people

And they sent me flowers..... ha! 🤪I’m 99.999% sure the director paid for them but the card says “from the staff”. Really nice on her part & pretty to smell/look at!

    The Waiting Game

I just need to get something off my chest in the hopes it'll make me feel better. I had all of my pre-surgery tests on July 29th. I was told I'd be called back within 2 weeks to schedule my surgery. Yesterday was 2 weeks. I've been keeping my phone with me like a magnet with the ringer turned WAY up, even at work. I'm on pins & needles just waiting for the phone to ring. I thought for sure I'd get the call today but it's 2pm and their office closes at 4pm. I know I'm being impatient & there are more important things in the world so I should just chill but I can't. I'm scared that the tests showed something that will keep me from getting the surgery. I'm scared that they've lost my information. I'm scared that they tried calling me but my phone glitched and I didn't receive the call & they are waiting for me to call them back. I know I could just call the office to see the status but I don't want the office staff to label me as a troublemaker from the very beginning. This whole thing has got me so down. Thanks for "listening"

    The Waiting Game

Good grief, that’s a long time! You’ve been way more patient than I ever could’ve been. Do you plan to give the surgeon’s office a call Monday? I sure as heck would! I hope you get answers & surgery date soon!

    So ready!

Hi! Those are 1 oz cups of bone broth, protein water, jello, & applesauce w/ enough room for a splash of water to thin it out to mix my crushed pills in to. Good luck!!!! 😊

How to keep protein drinks cold

Thank you for the suggestions, everyone! I’m meant to respond earlier but surgery is 3 days away & I’m cleaning my house like a mad woman! 😂

Waiting for pre-op class to begin!

It was a great class! Unfortunately, we were seated so far apart that it was hard to talk to each other. 🤔 But we do have local support groups that meet so that'll help. Of course, the meetings are on hold until the beginning of the year.
  19. I’m sitting in a room with my fellow patients waiting for class to begin! I never thought I’d be so excited for a class!!! 🤩 Surgery is in 8 days!

I’m excited for you! You’re going to do great!
  21. From everything I've read, yes it is. Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero, anything like that should be just fine.

    So disappointed in people

Thank you! 😊 I’ll never understand how people can be so negative to others. I’m just glad I’m not as miserable as they are!
