  1. My surgery was on January 21st. Since starting the program I've lost 122.2 lbs. That averages about 3.3lbs a week and 15.27 lbs a month. I'm not sure what the average loss is supposed to be like. I had the RNY and started at 344. I'm 221.8 now. What shocked me the most is how much it improved my breathing!! I had such horrible lungs before and was always coughing and hacking up a lung, complete with having to run to the bathroom to throw mucus up. I don't think I've coughed more than a dozen times since surgery though. That enough would have made the surgery worth it! When did you guys who have been through this already think about getting plastic surgery? Do you think it's wise to wait until you hit your goal weight or does there come a point where it's common to go ahead and have it removed before then? Just curious.........

  2. I started at 330 first consultation (highest weight was 380). Just before surgery (I had rny on January 21st), I weighed in at 307. All of that lost on the pre-op liquid diet. There is a small part of me that wonders if they really gave me a tiny pouch tummy, because it's still very surreal. First Dr visit is this Thursday when hopefully I'll be down some and can get this hateful jp drain out!!

  3. Well it's been 6 days since surgery. I finally got a real shower Sunday which was great, but it irritated the Dickens out of my drain hole. Now sore again and the two incisions/sutures where the hole is is so ITCHY. driving me bonkers. I can't get it it because of the gauze and dressings ugh.
In other news, I'm a little behind where I should be getting fluids and Protein in. I hope I can get up to higher amounts soon. I know I'm probably already dehydrated, but I'm doing the best I can and just haven't been able to drink more yet without getting chest pressure. [emoji852]️

  4. 2. I went hiking for the first time since my surgery on a Mountain I have hiked a few times before. This isn’t a huge climb, but has about 2000ft of elevation gain over about 2 miles with a few very steep sections. In the past this mountain has wooped my butt and taken me about 2 hours to reach the top of. I am usually soaked from sweat by the time I reach the top due to the effort of dragging my big butt up there. It also has always left me soar for days afterward due to the weight putting pressure on my joints when coming back down. This time however I was able to reach the top of the mountain in just over an hour while hardly breaking a sweat the whole time. Then coming back down I could immediately feel the difference on my legs. The lack of pressure on my knees and the softer foot falls were an amazing difference over before.

Yes!!!!!! This is one of the biggest goaIs I have. I want to go hiking so bad. When I was a bit younger I used to love being outdoors and just walking in the woods, even though I was still fat and couldn't do much. As I got older though even that was a hard thing to do. I cannot wait to get back out there and walk some trails or just pay in the woods. Such a country girl. Lol.

  5. Has anyone been having strange vision issues after? Prior to surgery I had perfect vision, now when I try to look at anything close up it is really blurry. It’s fine for things a little further out though.
Haven't noticed anything but my eye Dr did tell me that your vision changes as your a1c changes. He wouldn't give me a new prescription for this very reason.

  6. Congrats. I'm home after two nights in ICU. We had a few complications during surgery. All in all though it turns out if I hadn't had surgery I would've most likely been dead within the next few years. My liver was massive and well into fatty liver disease and I was borderline kidney disease. Luckily both are reversible with weight loss. So turned out to be necessary in more than one way.

  7. Had rny Tuesday morning. I had my first little poo today but I'm still feeling constipated. Didn't realize that could happen in a liquid diet but yep. A lot of pressure went away after the little poo so that was great. I'm still unbelievable sore where the drain is and in my shoulder. Belly incisions not that bad. I think I'd feel pretty much alright if it wasn't for the dang jp drain. I haven't been able to get all my Protein in but honestly I'm still just working on walking every hour which is getting better.

  8. So sorry to hear that you had complications. It will get better-everyone here can attest to that fact. Don’t let the pain get away from you-every time you’re due medication-ask for it. When you get home you’ll be surprised at how fast you’re able to transition to liquid Tylenol. Wishing you a speedy recovery. It’s uphill from here.
Thanks! I'm still waiting to hear if they'll let me go today. I'm so ready to get out of here.

  9. Day 2 pre-op, they are keeping me again overnight since my pain is really bad....the ab binder helps so much. I took it off for a bit last night and started having terrible muscle spasms. Drinking sips of Water and sucking on ice chips. Hoping to feel better tomorrow
Glad you came through but sorry about the pain levels. I bought a binder but can't use it because I have a drain in the way. Bummer cuz I'd like to

  10. Second day in ICU. They had complications and had to cut off the top half of my larger stomach and I had a leak. I'm not having nausea or vomiting and the invitation sites are door but not unbearable. What's killing me is the drain and my shoulder. I hear shoulder pain and issues before surgery and being in the Jesus pose on the hard table for five hours just killed it. Having to stay at least one more night and keep the drain in for a week ugh.

I am scheduled for Tuesday also! I am the same, waiting on a call for the time to be there. Good luck with everything, hopefully we'll both be posting great things shortly after :)

Like the both of you my surgery is Tuesday! I'm the first one of the day, so I gotta wake up at 4:30 for my last pre-surgery ensure, then I'm at the hospital at 6am. I can't believe that it's only 4 days away. Seems very surreal to me actually. I think the hardest part for me will be not being able to drink/eat at the same time as I ALWAYS drink a lot when I'm eating. I'm also a super fast eater so that will be something to get used to. Taking 20 mins to eat 2 oz of food? Weird. But I'm looking forward to it. I love love love food, but I've been fat all my life and I think being able to finally do things that I've never been able to do .... well I will love that even more. :) Best of luck to you both on Tuesday as well!

I love exploring Gila bend. I dig abandoned places and weirdness. If I survive surgery, (Jan 27!!) I need to get back there.

Most of my postings are bullshit, BTW.

LOL I figured. I think you may be the only person alive that enjoys Gila Bend hah! Of course there's probably more there now. We were there in the early 80's when there was NOTHING but the air force base, one hotel, and the A&W.

  13. Definitely interested in this thread. My rny is next week and I've also wondered about how fast you lose. I started at 330 (highest was 376 years ago) three weeks ago. I'm at 310 now so 20 lbs down on liquid diet. I'm also 42 and about 5'3" tall. I worry about loose skin simply because I already have some. But I worry more about not ever being able to do things I want to do.

  14. That sucks. I have the best mom in the world. If it hadn't been for her I would have eaten a lead bullet when I was about 13 years old. My dad is cruel, and a true sociopath. I remember being a little kid and him telling me that he should have shot me or on a tree stump and let the ants eat me. He wasn't joking. When I had surgery in 2015 to remove cancer my mom asked him if he wanted to say anything to me because I could die in the table. He shrugged his shoulders, didn't even look at me, and said "whatever". Such a jerk.

  15. I've been trolling this forum for months, and its been a wealth of information.
Things are starting to get real, as my insurance company says I will have a decision within 5 days. My doctor says they kinda have to say yes.
On my surgeon's web page,it says he's done over 3000 procedures. Now, I'm a man that isn't scared of a whole lot. I race cars, shoot guns, wrestle grizzly bears for fun (well, two out of three ain't bad) and I usually just duct tape my wounds and walk it off.
But I'm 59 and I am thinking about death a lot.
What is my surgeon gets bored and falls asleep?
I guess I should make a will. I don't want the state to get my dogs or my guns if I die. Or my collection of studded leather BDSM gear.

Too bad you love so far away. I'd totally tell you to will your BDSM to me. Bwahaha! Btw I used to live in Gila bend. Tuscon was a nice place. Gila bend sucked big ones. Best of luck on your surgery!!

  16. STAY ON UR SURGEONS DIETS
But this is just what my surgeon told me.
My surgeon is Dr. Snyder Denver Bariatric center of excellence. ( he is the head surgeon in the US is on the board for bariatric and other things he fixes all the complications and problems from other surgeons he has patients fly from all over even out of the US to see him. Some patients come from London New Zealand etc) BUT he told me that the size of ur liver has nothing to do with it. They thought that it did in the past but new studies show the complications that arose from “large livers” where actually surgeon error [emoji15] so his patients and the other surgeons that work along and with him in the Denver center do not require a liquid diet etc for weeks before hand to “shrink liver”
He said it’s also a mental tool the surgeons can use on us. It’s test our will power ( which he also mentioned is a reason he does not do this. It causes us a lot of unneeded stress and anxiety while we r already preparing for such a huge change we do not need this stress) he said it’s cruel to have patients on such a long liquid diet. Because the patients think they HAVE to follow this strict liquid diet due to the size of their livers a medical need in reality it is not. He explained a whole lot about it to me. And it made me really sad
    PLEASE FOLLOW UR SURGEONS DIET.
I am not saying to go off the diet.
But try not to let it control u mentally because that’s what they r hoping for. And I am so sorry that you all have to go through this. 🥺 I have listed my requirements previously. But Here they r again if anyone is interested? I have to do a clear liquid diet for 48hours to clean out the stomach and intestines ( he explained this is for medical reasons) and nothing 8 hours before surgery. That is the only requirement. For all his patients. And we all have “livers” and I’m sure they are all abnormally large due to our weight
We are the same week, that liquid life is real.really here. Let's keep each other inspired, I have my final pre-op appointment with the surgeon on the 17th. Surgery on the 31st and last night I got a call to schedule my 1 month post-op appointment for March 2nd. The only detail I'm not privied to is the time of surgery.
I hope you feel better very soon and welcome home. Cheers to recovery mode.
Little late to the party (my buddy who had his VSG a couple years ago told me about the site just yesterday) - my surgery (VSG) was on 1/6 - this past Monday! Done at Swedish in downtown Seattle with Dr. Sarah Martin del Campo.
Checking in on everyone again. I’m 6 days post op! Started back to work yesterday and that’s gone well. Husband out of town so I’m taking care of our 6 year old daughter, 3 dogs, and 2 cats myself with no issues. Energy is pretty much back to 100%. The hardest thing for me right now is getting the carafate down. YUCK. The dieticians warned me that I may not tolerate Protein Shakes with whey concentrate after surgery, and unfortunately that is the case. No problems with whey isolate at all. My incisions are all healing well. No pain at all. My head is definitely playing some games. I know what they mean now when say how important it is to do the head work or you won’t be successful.

Hope everyone is doing well, good luck to everyone having surgery in the coming days!

oh I almost forgot. I had my first two NSVs. First, I’m already off all three of my blood pressure medicines. And I was able to put my wedding ring back on this morning! I haven’t been able to wear it in a couple years, I’ve just been wearing a band.
One week away from my rny surgery. I have to be at the hospital on the 21st at 6am. I've lost about 20 lbs since being on the liquid diet which is cool because my surgery goal was 14lbs. I've loaded up on ensure Max (Target had buy one get one 50% off and I had 3.00 off coupons on each one). Also picked up some pure Protein packs Incase I'm out and about and need something. I still have to buy Jello and ice pops. I've also got gas x, stool softener, blood pressure cuff, thermometer, milk of magnesia, fairlife protein shakes and some clear protein Water drinks. Also bought juven to start seven days before surgery. I think I'm ready. I hope so anyway! The day before surgery I have a 12 hour shift and all i can have all day is to pre surgery ensure shakes. That's gonna suck lol.

  17. I plan on making a batch or two of broths, I prefer my own cooking. Also, I don't know if I will be able to stomach too much more store bought broth after my procedure, if that's my only option.
My surgeons office told us specifically not to use Bone Broth and they HATE Premier Protein with a passion. I don't get it but apparently the pp are too processed with chemicals they don't like. And I think they are concerned with the sodium or fat levels in bone broth. It sure would be tasty tho lol
