My husband has the best response for this. When he was losing weight his co-workers would mention he was getting slim/looking good/losing weight and he would say mockingly "and therefore I have value now?!" [emoji1787] It's a great way to make people laugh and think at the same time.

I'm 3 weeks out and I still have that fear. After years of failed diets it's only natural to feel skeptical. I have lost 25lbs since surgery and while that is amazing, I am still doubting myself lol. I'm looking forward to getting back to exercising like I did before surgery. This has been 100% a complete and utter life change. I view my body and food in a completely different light. I know the weightloss will get harder as time goes on but I'm ready for it and enjoying this honeymoon period of easy loss now. Good luck with your surgery! You got this!!

My dietician recommends Vega One for vegetarian/vegans.

I always have trouble with whey Protein so I'm switching over to Vega today. I had it before surgery too. It's a pea protein and is a little odd in terms of taste but there are plenty of flavors so you can find one you like. My go to is the chocolate. You can get them on Amazon and they're in retail stores too. I've seen it at Target, Kroger, and Whole foods.

    Hope this helps!

I've noticed some people become diet experts after THEIR surgery. Often I see comments about how YOU should eat because that's what works for THEM. You have to do what works for you and don't let others dictate or make you feel inferior because the way you choose to lose your weight. This is YOUR journey not theirs. There is a fine line that people sometimes cross when giving advice that crosses over to being condescending. So if eating clean all the time is your thing, go for it , or if you choose to "eat in moderation" because your a big girl/boy and can add a "treat" into your macros and be accountable at the same time go for it. DO YOU!

Don't it irks you when a former big person become a shamer? I have a coworker and she did not have a WLS but she had liposuction and a Tummy Tuck. And she always makes comments about bigger people (she's still sorta big just more shapely now). I went with her to get something to eat and she made a comment about every big person in line. Things like: "she know she needs a salad, I know that plate gotta weigh a ton" And when I called her out, she stated she was just teasing. I've worked with her for a while and I never heard her talk about people like that until she had her surgery. Now, she hasn't said anything about me to my face because she knows I will cuss her out. It just irks me. I decided not to go to lunch with her anymore because her energy is toxic. She finds joy in stepping on people which is kinda weird to me.

My doc has me following the 30-30-30 rule. Nothing for 30 minutes before you eat. Take 30 minutes to eat and chew 30 times before swallowing. Then wait 30 minutes before starting liquids again. It works well for me. I'm 3 weeks out and still trying to get into a good groove schedule wise. For my doctor/nutritionist, as long as the Protein Soups have the consistency of water/protein shakes then they consider them a liquid..I had a thicker soups last night for dinner and it was pureed so I treated that like a soft food instead of liquid and followed the 30-30-30. When in doubt, always call your doctor's hospital or message them for advice. My doctors hear from me at least once a week, but that's what they're there for! [emoji4]

I'm 15 days post op and my doctor has advised me to lose 40 lbs my first 3 months, then another 40 the following three months. Here's the catch....I still feel awful. I am recovering very slowly. Walking 20 minutes per day so I am not stagnant but the incision pain keeps me up at night (hard lump and pulling, doc said is normal) and I am not resting well because of it. I do not want to be on pain meds but the soreness makes me sluggish. Anyone else slow to heal? There are so many people whom have jumped straight into their weight loss routine and I am not ready to start mine. Tired of the recovery phase......

I'm 3 weeks post op and this is what worked for me.

If the hospital doesn't give you one, make sure to have an abdominal binder! I never had surgery before and I lived in my binder for the first week. Having that extra support helps with walking.

Also get good reusable ice packs on Amazon. I got ones that covered my whole stomach and they were life savers!

Make sure you have a good amount of pillows to prop yourself up at night. It just feels better to be on an incline than to lay flat (at least for me it was). I got a big u-shaped maternity pillow that helped keep me on my back because I'm a side sleeper. Also the first two nights I sleep on our recliner.

Don't wait to take your pain meds. This goes for in the hospital as well as at home.

Everyone says this but walk, walk, walk. It helps break up the monotony of being in the hospital. At the same time, don't feel bad about sleeping. I had constantly read how people walked seemingly all the time post-op. I think I did 3-4 loops over a few hours and then tucked in for the night. When you're not walking always make sure you have your calf pumps on to keep the blood moving.

Sip sip sip! Glue your water bottle to you! I went in for fluids about 13 days after because I was very dehydrated. I walked a lot when drinking on the beginning because it felt better and seemed to go down faster.

Have a pillow to put over your stomach for the car ride home. I constantly had my pillow over my stomach for 2 weeks because it was a comfort and also so I could text easier since I rest my arms on my stomach when texting.

Lotion and lip balm are life!

Most importantly, know that you will experience a lot of different emotions during recovery. I scoffed at this but sometimes I feel like a teen with my mood swings.

Finally, give yourself grace and try to stay as positive as possible. It will be tough, but every day you'll wake up feeling a little better than yesterday and with more energy!

Try not to play the comparison game too much. I got myself all worked up in the beginning because I wasn't where others were. I recover slower than others and that's okay. It's not a race. Listen to your body.

I wish you the best of luck and a fantastic surgery and recovery! Seeing the weight loss every day is such a motivator and helped me get through the tough days. You got this!

Hey lovely people! I hope you all are having a lovely December and staying as corona free as possible!
After years and years of struggling with my weight and being labelled as FAT since I was 5 years old, I decided to go for the Gastric Sleeve Surgery!
I am now 26 years old and married but the insults from other people and family never stopped.
I was always on diets even as a child and played sports so was pretty active, but then at 15 years old I found out I have PCOS and that completely shattered my soul.
The weight kept piling on despite dieting and relationships became difficult.
When I met my now husband for the first time,I decided to let him know about my PCOS and the chances of not being able to conceive. It was difficult to open up and it killed me inside but he was still happy to go ahead.
As the years went on, family and friends started seeing the weight gap between my husband and I. "Look at her and look at him",they would say. "Maybe she eats his meals!" It was difficult and depressing and people would insult as if it was the most normal thing in the world to do.
Why can't people just support and not harass others? What do they from hurting people?
Due to Covid this year, I had time on my hands and decided I wanted to be a different person, one who was much healthier and happier.
I had my surgery on the 2nd of December 2020 and my weight stats are as follows:
    Highest weight: 113kgs
    Surgery weight:107kgs
    Current weight:101kgs
I am so happy I have made this decision and I can see that so many others on here have as well!
I wish nothing but love and support to all the lovely people on here.

I'm a 35 year old male 6'0" tall and starting weight 300. I've struggled all my life trying to lose weight and was eager to get this surgery and start anew. I had my surgery yesterday and am feeling today like I didn't have a good understanding of how intense this recovery was going to be, when I met with the doctor he said how easy someone like me would make it look. I thought it was an in and out easy surgery but I stayed over night and know I'd get dehydrated if it weren't for the IV. Every sip of Water I take hurts with intense gas pain. When does this get better? What should I expect from here? Going to talk to the doctor soon. Trying to stay positive and focus on why I did this.

i had my vsg surgery on December third but I’ve been craving so many thing including pickles. Would it be a bad idea to eat a pickle without the skin ? Also, how do you deal with having people in your house eating all the amazing delicious food meanwhile you’re sitting eating puréed food ?

Hey all! I should have a December date as well. Hoping to have it this week!

My surgery is outpatient, though they can admit if you have issues or complications. I’m kind of glad because I just feel so much more comfortable at home. Basically surgery is in the AM and you stay until the PM and then go home. I’m ready to get this done.
