Ninja-slash-nerd got a reaction from Fmd angel in How many years after surgery could you eat a plate of spaghetti without feeling nauseous?
No, the experience is not that similar. Because with the sleeve, you're far less likely to suffer from dumping syndrome. But thanks for your input.

Sorry for the rough news but honestly the greater fear may be Cancer...
Returning GERD or the sudden onset of GERD is a known risk of VSG. This revision surgery is about preventing a malicious disease from developing and improving your quality of life.
    Good Luck 💚

Apparently I am. But I'm also worried I'll never stop being so nauseous around food in general. Especially the foods I once liked. But thanks for your support.

I was never at risk of ruining my surgery because I'm not having cravings. And I was never rude to anyone.

I'd have to do the reading on the studies behind this to get a solid opinion .... BUT
The first video has some red flags, for me.
"It's not about what you eat, it's about when you eat" Well that's just not true.
One of the studies it sites is based upon 8 people. That's not solid science.
I'd be interested to see some of the studies and if they tracked calories consumed. The BY study it says the participants ate their normal food. But were they consuming less of those foods because they had less time to eat, they cut out a meal or snack?
Where did they get that schedule from, eat 30-60 minutes after waking up, eat a larger breakfast than lunch. I don't see any study sited for that.
"A week later you'll start feeling all the amazing benefits" This sounds like the hype around every fad diet, IMO
"Don't count calories, they don't matter" Don't we all wish that was the truth
Why is there the focus to eat during the early part of the day? I didn't hear them refer to any studies on that
So, I acknowledge I am a natural cynic. But if this video was the first time I heard of IF, I'd write it off as another fad diet. I know there is solid science behind IF, but this video just makes it seem like some sort of miracle. And we all know that losing weight, no matter what plan we follow, even when we have our stomachs removed or digestive track rerouted is hard af!

I’ve had salmon sashimi twice so far and was surprised my pouch handled it better than cooked fish or tuna. Of course each experience is different. I had already give. Up Pasta for years prior to RNY. I was using shiritaki, (better than rice makes a good shiritaki rice they also make a sushi rice) i had also started subbing cauliflower rice, occasionally veggie based pasta. I’d mix better than rice, shiritaki rice and a Protein (usually something vegetarian) all pre-surgery. But things change and I am still learning to adapt. But for me personally certain foods are off limits. Unless there is a healthy, but just as tasty alternative.
but one month out. It’s way too early to worry about a plate of pasta or sushi. Better question is, how has your relationship to food changed and how will you adapt going forward. Go through the appropriate phases and try new things slowly and one at a time. And put thoughts out of your head about what you might eat in the future. For now it’s hydration, protein and nutrition.
but that’s life. And yes sometime down the road as you start getting closer to goal weight you treat yourself to little things as long as you meet your target protein, and don’t break the calorie bank. Of course you can do this early on just set standards and don’t break past them.
of course everyone is different but we all started the bariatric surgery journey for a reason.

I like the Carb Nada Pasta they sell on here. I eat a serving maybe once a week. Sashimi will solve all your sushi issues. YUM

I'm over four years out. I eat sushi, but I can only manage half a roll.
Chinese food - yes. I don't eat the rice, though. I order something with non-fried meat (and veggies) and eat a cup or so of that.
Pasta - I avoid that. I don't feel well after eating a carb-heavy meal, so I haven't messed around with pasta dishes.

I am almost two months post op and can’t eat any raw veggies yet. It just takes time to be completely healed.

I haven’t really thought about Pasta as I didn’t really eat it much before surgery. There are lots of good pasta replacement options out there though. I have made fried rice using riced cauliflower and it was good. That was during my pre bypass stage though.

you will find a new normal way if eating and feel so much better for it. Hang in there!

I also want to ask If I was ever going to be able to eat sushi again. Or Chinese food. I ask because I'm one-month post-op and there are veggies I don't even tolerate yet.

I had bypass surgery on the 13th, it's gonna be three weeks now. My incisions are healing well, I feel dizzy sometimes when I get up, and I have only thrown up one day. I had no gas pain after surgery either.

So, I don't really ever cheat. Aside from a few mozzarella sticks, I've stuck to the plan. Yes, I've gotten dumping A LOT because stuff on the "plan" isn't always Kosher for my particular tummy.
But today. Today I set myself for failure on purpose. I ate a shortbread cookie, a ferrero rocher, and a cordial cherry. At the same time. Yes. The epitome of all that is sugar and anti-WLS. I warned my coworkers that in 20 minutes I would be dying. I knew it would happen. I did it anyway.
It only took 10 minutes. I spent half an hour in the work bathroom foaming and dry-heaving. I dry-heaved so much snot up my nose started to bleed... profusely. I was hot. I had heart palpitations. I couldn't speak for an hour.
It wasn't worth it. LOL. But damn the "normies" have it good being able to enjoy those treats without weight issues or dying in workplace restrooms.
And no. No plans for a repeat ever again. So that's my contribution to the cheat thread. Except this cheat was a big one with consequences of suffering. lol.
    Don't cheat, kids.

Ninja-slash-nerd reacted to catwoman7 in How normal is it to pass out after some time after surgery?
I think that would be pretty rare. Some people develop reactive hypoglycemia (I emphasize SOME people - certainly nowhere near everyone!!), but you usually just get dizzy with that, and you can prevent that by eating something every 3-4 hours and really limiting (or avoiding) sugar. But totally passing out would be very unusual. Plus I'm not even sure her passing out is related to weight loss surgery in the first place. And like the above person said, it could be that she was dehydrated and eating way too few calories, too. Hard to say without a lot more info.
edited to add that in answer to your question, no, it is not normal. If it were, we'd hear about that all the time on here. I don't even remember if I've ever heard that at all in the four (??) years I've been on this forum.

I am almost 2 years out. I miss enjoying my food. I keep trying things hoping to experience the old pleasure, but it's just not there. This is definitely a mixed blessing. It's like I want to really enjoy a small sandwich, or fruit, or whatever, but when I get it, I'm like "meh!" But, then I see the next thing and I'm tempted again, just to be disappointed again. Sadly, the only thing that seems to get close to the old culinary pleasure points is sweets, and even they are disappointing. 😟
