I have another month of purée (already been on purée for 1 month). The team is specific about not advancing the diet until you are seen by them and they “can’t fit me in” until 1/16. This is really starting to affect me psychologically. And I just don’t feel very secure in what they are telling me. But, I am truly trying to follow what they say and want.

Nah, eff that. My surgeon tried to do that to me - I would have had to wait 2 extra weeks to start my normal diet because she has 1 office day a week and one week was booked and the next was Thanksgiving.

I told them when I booked that appointment that I would be calling the week that should have been my one month appt which was when I'd be approved for normal foods and exercise. So I did. I called that week, told them I was doing fine, told them how much weight I'd lost and all and I got approved to do what I want and I was able to eat Turkey on Thanksgiving.

2 months on puree is insane. I didn't even have a puree phase.

I was down 14 pounds two weeks after surgery, and reached goal at 7 months (105 pounds lost). You are doing great! HOrmones can really mess with your mind, as well as the ketosis you are in. Ketosis can also result in high energy and feelings of euphoria, so that may be around the corner for you. I would guess that so many hormones are being released from the fat tissue and that is causing a lot of the depression. Hang in there. You will make it through this and you will be successful. You are already beating one of the most serious and difficult addictions known to humankind - alcohol, and you will beat this food addiction as well. Do you think you transferred the alcohol addiction to food? I hope you can get (or continue) some really good therapy to help you in this battle. We are standing with you!

The real answer is here! Support and everything is great but we all know depression won't be cured by people saying it'll get better. This is strictly a hormone issue - your body is flushing out fat cells and with it comes ALL THE EMOTIONS!!

It too will pass. 22 pounds in 2 weeks is great. About what I was at. I'm 8 weeks now and 57 pounds, so it'll keep coming. Work hard, eat right, start walking and working out.

nope. That rule never ends - it's lifelong. Drinking too soon after eating washes the food out of your pouch (your pyloric valve has been bypassed, so there's nothing to hold the food in your stomach if you start drinking)

Isn't that bypass only? Pyloric valve on a sleeve is still there.

Edited to add: not saying it's ok to drink while eating, just clarifying reasons why and for whom.

  4. Thanks for checking in! I'm doing good. No complications yet, no real issues. Down 56 since surgery and today is 8 weeks. Sunday will be 2 calendar months. Down 102 total since my HW this year.

I'm doing barre and started going to the gym last week.

Next appt is Jan 22. I hope to be around 260 for that. If so I'll be well on my way to my needed 250 before April for a Hawaii trip.

According to Dr. Jason Fung, in order to be in "starvation mode" you have to have lost ALL fat stores beyond that percentage we're never supposed to lose.

    :)

So then none of us are in it! Even better!

I'm basing my assumption on strictly calorie intake but what you say makes sense as well. I hear so many people talking about making sure they're not going so low with calories that they're in starvation mode but in reality, most of us are under that threshold.

I am also 2 years out, started at 266, now 190. I am 5'8 female. My goal is 170. I am stuck. Not gaining, but also not losing. I have been stuck for about 8 months. My food intake is still tiny, and my sleeve has never stretched. To be honest, I get fed up with my sleeve, and I hate eating out. I can barely fit in a side salad as a main. I get terrible symptoms of dumping eating steak, chicken or fish. That's exhausting and not very social! I am wondering if I am actually not eating enough, and I am in starvation mode. I am going to go back on to my Optifast shakes to up my Protein. Maybe you should do the same? Get your metabolism fired up again?

Almost all of us are in starvation mode - its anything under around 1200 cals a day, depending on sex/age/etc. So don't think that it's some really low number and that's the issue.

BMI charts are for the masses (pun intended) A one size fits all assessment is not likely to work for everyone. Too much diversity unaccounted for 😔

Perhaps Doctor's should add the very important category of quality of life/happiness factor in (addition) on an individual assessment basis.

That might change how people feel about which categories they ultimately fall into/want to reach/stay in 😬

Yup! To me I'm happy with what I've lost so far. I'm off all my pills, off my CPAP and more, all in less than 2 months. I'm going to hit a weight where I think I look good, I'm happy with my clothes and all the ancillary stuff and then I'll stop. I may go 10-15 pounds under that weight, just for some cushion as I figure I'll gain a bit as I learn maintenance mode.

  8. Morning all! I'm chronicling my journey here so it'll be easy for me to find haha.

Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since surgery. I woke up this morning to 271 on the scale. HW: 353 (June, I've been higher before), SW: 327, CW: 271, GW: 210.

That's 56 since surgery and 82 overall. I'm pretty dang happy with that. Weight loss is slowing down and being sporadic - last week it was almost a pound each day and then I stalled for 3 days and woke up this morning to a 3 pound drop. I just hope it continues at 2 pounds a week or more so I can make my weight for Hawaii! Need to be at 250 for a bunch of the stuff we wanna do.

I had a rough week at work last week and had my first true test of my normal habit of going to food for stress. I worked out instead. I don't know that it helped me or made me feel better but I did it and didn't let food do any damage.

I feel like Hair loss is starting despite taking Biotin, collagen and using the Nioxin system. I'll let my barber take care of it next month.

Anyways - keep it up out there!

Everyone loses at different rates, and your starting weight was actually fairly low.

In positive news, stall definitely broken. Down to 242.9 this morning.

Isn't it crazy how it works like that? The same weight for days in a row and then boom - 3-5 pounds down in 1 day!

Peggy what type of Protein Shakes are you making? I was drinking the carnation instant Breakfast high Protein shakes but my taste buds no longer tolerate that. I’m 3 weeks post op. I’d like to try blending my own using frozen fruit but I can’t seem to get my nutritionist to respond if that’s okay. I may just have to try and see.

Premier or Unjury. Also I was told no fruit until month 3 post-op but that's my plan.

I've used Flat Out products a lot. They're a lower carb flatbread you can use as a wrap.

some people on an other bariatric site I'm on use wraps that are made of cheese. I've seen them in the store but have never tried them.

Yup, same here. Flatout is really good and I like the cheese wraps, but a lot of calories for me right now due to all the fat. I'll be good for later and for making hard shell tacos!
