I finally get to move to soft foods on 01/07/2020. Been on liquids sine my surgery on 12/9/19. Just wondering what your first soft food meal was. I’m think soft scrambled egg for Breakfast, 2 ounces tuna for lunch and 2 ounces of grilled salmon for dinner. Any other ideas / suggestions?

Hello surgery 12/10/19. Surgery weight was 252, this morning I am at 223.2lbs. So, a weight loss of 28.8. When I went in for my first post op I was at 262 but believe it was the actual IV fluids and swelling. I can tell a big difference in my face and my clothing I was wearing 22 now in a 16. I feel great!

I start soft foods soon as well. pureed meats are nasty. There is no other way of going about it. Pureed foods have not been my friend due to texture issues. 🤢 I will be so glad to eat meat and other Protein foods and not get a sick feeling while it's in my mouth. I can chew, chew, chew and be ok. Lol. Looking forward to being able to eat with my family again. Good luck.

Refried beans! Ricotta cheese or cottage cheese drizzled with no sugar added spaghetti sauce. Hummus. When you scramble your egg pour a bit of pureed salsa on them. I can eat anything now but those are still my go-to foods because I'm a vegetarian.

Rckc270 reacted to Slimming Down Steve in So how much sleep did you get the night before surgery?
I'm laying in bed for the last three hours trying to sleep. Nothing surgery wise seems to be bothering me, except making sure everything around the house is taken care of for the next few days we will be gone. Gotta get up and start a fire in the wood stove in 3.5 hrs, take a shower with the surgical scrub for the third time within 24 hours, make my wife some coffee, brush my teeth, put my phone charger in our go bag, put down extra dogfood, toys, Snacks and Water for the kids, set the furnace to 65f degrees, and the wake the wife up and hurry up and hand her cup of coffee before she tries to slash my throat with her nails for waking her up before daylight. (The coffee is like a force field protection), and last grab our bag and a refill of coffee for grumpy, then we're out.

    This is what I do:
    1) At least 10,000 steps a day, tracked on my little wrist step tracker.
    2) Wall pushups, followed by large arm circles and small arm circles, both directions, I do 3 sets. The number of reps depends on you and you gradually add reps to each set. I also do pelvic tilts in this session.
    3) Leg routine: squats, front lunges, pliatte squats, side lunges, pistol squats, side leg raises and cross overs, and a couple of others I don't know the name of. (These are NOT deep squats - only do what is comfortable and gradually increase.) I found the leg exercises on line.
    4) Upper body weight routine with only 3 and 5 pound weights (WalMart). 3 sets. I use the exercises given by my surgeon and also on line.
    5) Stair climbing. (I am up to 25 flights/day, with goal of 75 as I train toward a Grand Canyon hike.) I started with just 1 flight.
    6) Stretching.
    7) Cardio (this can be hill hiking, biking, swimming, or elliptical machine which I have.)
I do these exercises every day - 6 days a week. Hill hiking is increasing until I can do 20 miles, again, prepping for the GC rim-to-rim.
So none of this is in a gym. No fancy equipment, except for the Elliptical which is just a back up when I can't get outside due to weather or darkness, I start in the morning before work with arms and legs. Stairs after work. Cardio, weights, after dinner. Stretching before bed. I'll walk around the living room if I have to to get my 10,000 steps in, but usually that is not an issue. My resting morning pulse is in the mid 40's and I feel like I am in the best shape of my life! I can eat anything I want, although I only choose healthy options - I don't want junk in my new body!
I used to be very active, but the fatter I got, the more immobile I got. Then my joints started to go. After surgery, I have gotten my life back, and physical activity is a big part of that. Start slow and build up. Be consistent and you will see some great results in so many ways,

I finished the triathlon today! No speed records, mind you, but I finished it. The final home stretch was so emotional for me, as I considered where I was 8 months ago. This would not have even been remotely possible then with 110 extra pounds and joints that were giving up the ghost. I feel so grateful for the life that has been given back to me. By the time I got to the finish line, with all the cheering, cow bells, finishing medal around my neck, I was in tears. What an amazing milestone. I will never forget this day and what it represents - a new life with new horizons I cannot yet even imagine. I feel good - not totally drained like I expected. No NSAIDs, either. What an experience. I hope everyone of us has a milestone achievement that redefines us as empowered individuals.

Well, I ate a lot more than I should have during Thanksgiving and actually gained 4 pounds, but since then I have taken off those 4, even with Christmas. I feel so blessed, happy, and relieved that I have tools now to actually take control of my weight instead of my weight controlling me. In the past, those 4 pounds would have been so discouraging that I would have eaten on 4 more, at least.
Although my original goal was 149, I am feeling much better in the low 140's. Maybe I will stay there or maybe even lose a few more, but it feels good to look at the family Christmas pictures where I am not trying to hide behind everyone else!

Rckc270 reacted to James Marusek in Constipation
Constipation can be a problem after surgery. When your bowels are compacted, the only solution I have found is to insert a glycerin suppository up the rear end. It unpacks you in about an hour or two.
For general constipation what works for me the best is to eat an apple before bedtime. Generally I then have a good bowel movement the next morning. But there is a secret here. You must eat the skin as well as the pulp. Apple sauce will not do the same thing. It is the combination. Since you are only 6 weeks post op, this may be too soon for you to try.
Here is a list of things people use to combat constipation derived from former threads on this site:
    Smooth Move Herbal Tea
    Prune juice (warmed)
Prunes (4 in the morning and 4 at night)
    Magnesium citrate
Insoluble fibers (Garden of Life Raw Fiber or Renew Life Triple Fiber).
Haribo sugar free Gummy Bears (be careful with this one because it can cause explosive diarrhea)
    Aerobic Magnesium 07
Ground Flax Seeds (but don’t try to grind it yourself). Use 2 tablespoons per glass of Water every night before going to bed.
    Bowel Clear (herbal blend)
Also I might suggest that you take a probiotic to make sure that you have reestablished your colonies of good gut bacteria after surgery.

Good Morning all! Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas. I'm 8 days post op, and last night was the 1st night that I slept through the night (usually wake up needing nausea or pain meds), so I feel like I'm definitely on the road to recovery. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were a little rough, but I just told everyone that I had a sinus infection to explain for my lack of energy and lack of eating.
I haven't taken anything for pain or nausea today, and don't feel like I need to....hooray!! I took 2 naps yesterday, so fingers crossed I can get through today without napping. I lucked out with the holiday break, and don't go back to work until after New Years, so by then I should be perfectly fine.
209 this morning, so down 9lbs since surgery!! Hope everyone is doing well!!

It's day 15, so I finally get to eat purees per my post op diet! I might try diluted refried Beans as my first attempt. That or a scrambled egg. Probably have it later tonight because even pre op my stomach was always uneasy early in the morning, so I often just had a Protein Shake or a banana and milk for breakfast just to have something in my stomach.
Having to drink a Protein shake while the rest of my family ate steak and potatoes for Christmas dinner was rough, man. My stomach is still meh on food but I do have some head hunger now. Not as bad as before, but it's present. Could be more me looking forward to solids than anything. Protein Shakes are doable, but boring. (Note: my sense of smell has been off half the time since surgery. Sometimes way off. My mom made Christmas Cookies the other day and I thought she was making beef stroganoff XD On the other end, I could smell the steaks just fine and holy cow, they smelled amazing.)
I'm still not hitting my 500 calorie goal, but am consistently hitting protein and hydration goals. I've been averaging 60 grams of protein and at least 72 oz of Water. I'm also getting closer to my calorie goal at 400-425 calories a day. I've been drinking two protein shakes plus a small glass of milk most days. I can't do broth on its own anymore.

    Hi everyone
Today was my surgery vsg day!!
Dr. Said surgery went really good, no issues. I did my preop liquid diet for 2 wks 12/9..and I'm doing liquid phase 1 and 2 for 10 days. Labs are good. RN told me my O2 stats got better just about 6hr ago. Guess they were low prior. Ive been up walking round the floors today too. Going home tomorrow if can hold liquids down: no vomiting and I progress ok. Stomach is very sore. No nausea and pain is a 4_5 most of the time. RN told me my O2 stats got better just about an hr ago. Guess they were low prior. Will come back and post as I progress.

Yep. Yep. Yep. I lose weight whenever I need to. My window is 5lbs. So I'm either in "maintenance mode" MM or WLM (weight loss mode). It ALWAYS comes off in my M-Thurs WLM mindset. Then F-Sun I have fun fun fun till my daddy takes the T-bird away!

I just found the Fairlife Milk one. Hold me. So. Dang. Good.
I use Isopure powders to make smoothies.
Lately I've been making a lot of frappaccinos with ice, coffee, a scoop of powder and some psyllium husks for thickness and some SF Torani peppermint or pumpkin pie spice syrups.
I also love making blueberry yogurt ones with banana pp and vitacost powdered Peanut Butter Slim. Dang. Now I want on! LOL
