    February Surgery ?

So after having a really pretty easy couple of days, today I started to feel worse. I had a pounding headache, my urine is darker than I want, and I was dry heaving and/or vomiting if I tried to get any protein shake in. I am also having a really hard time getting the darn Tylenol down. I finally contacted the nutritionists at B & W (where I had the surgery done) and asked if I was dehydrating. She feels I am in early dehydration, and wants me to give up trying to get the protein in right now and just concentrate on getting the fluids in. It is a relief not to have to face choking down the protein shakes right now, and I am very glad I reached out, because I was feeling really off. She said I may find the nausea lessening by getting hydrated, and that regardless for most people it passes. So I am sipping away, and walking around my house at least once an hour. Or, as we say, living the dream.
  2. Hey all I had my sleeve on Monday and overall I feel pretty good, but have some questions for some of you veterans: 1. Does anyone know a liquid Tylenol without sugar? I am having a terrible time getting my medication in me in a reasonable amount of time. 2. Does the nausea feeling fade? I am having a difficult time choking down protein drinks; I tried a protein water but it was so sweet and chemically I threw it back up. I can tolerate the taste of Iconic Protein Drinks (have Stevia instead of the other fake sugars) but after 4 to 6 ounces I get nauseous and cannot finish the drink; 3. Did anyone else have headaches? I am wondering if it is from a bit of dehydration and just plain hunger. Once I get the Tylenol in it goes away. 4. Any ideas for protein water that does not taste so sweet? 5. When did you weigh yourself? Thank you!

    Questions for Right After Surgery

Thank you so much. I really am not adverse to the small amount of sugar that would be in liquid Tylenol for kids, but the nurse at the hospital said it could cause "dumping", which of course I don't want. I'm hoping the nausea gets better soon! the thought of anything other than just water makes me queasy. I had some chicken bone broth yesterday it was a nice break from the sweet stuff, but I could not get it all down. I am going to practice patience. If I have to do the protein drinks 1 oz at a time all day alternating with water then I'll try that. I want to heal.

    Questions for Right After Surgery

That looks perfect, except my surgeon wants me on Tylenol, not Advil, because of stomach bleeding issues with Advil. I am going to do an internet search for children's liquid Tylenol, maybe there is one buried out there somewhere! Thank you for your efforts!

Thank you for the suggestions. I know this is a short term issue, but all this fake sweet is making me nauseaus!

    Questions for Right After Surgery

Thanks. I feel really large and bloated, so I've avoided the scale. (I've had lots of practice in avoiding that thing...)

    February Surgery ?

I am so sorry this is happening to you. The only thing they told me was to walk, but I would check with your surgeon's office and see if the MOM is available for you. It's hard to keep walking around like the walking dead when you are exhausted and in pain.

    February Surgery ?

End of my 2nd post surgery day! I managed to get in 38 oz of water/clear fluids, and oddly enough 38 oz of protein. And this took ALL of my attention ALL day. Slightly more than 200 calories. I'll bring some water to bed, and sip when I wake up or if I need more Tylenol overnight. I have had less nausea, and only one bad bout of dry heaving. The pain is well controlled with Tylenol; I'm mostly stiff and achy, but it's just a b&*%^ to have to chop it up and then take little swallows to get the pills down. Does anyone know of a liquid Tylenol without sugar?? I know these are temporary stages, but the crazy part of me is catastrophizing all of this, and thinking I'll be like this forever. Ugh. Tomorrow I get to SHOWER! Hooray! And I think I'm going to put my fitbit on; I'd like to see what the walking tours of my first floor are adding up to. A couple of questions if anyone is a veteran: Does this odd nausea at the thought of food pass? At this point I feel like the rumbling feeling in my stomach may be hunger, I barely had 200 calories all day. How do you distinguish between "head hunger" and real hunger? Finally, when were you able to get into at least spitting distance of the recommended water/protein guides? Good night all!

    February Surgery ?

For me, less severe. I think I have been lucky in that regard.
  12. I also like the Iconic brand; they don't use aspartame or sucralose; they instead use stevia and monk fruit. You can buy a sample pack on Amazon. However, I am only 3 days post surgery and my tastes have changed; I still find the chocolate truffle and ginger with turmeric shakes more palatable than most, but I'm having a very, very hard time getting them down. I am on just protein shakes and clear liquids for another week, so I hope that gets a bit easier. You can use bone broth, I like the Swanson Chicken bone broth; it has some protein; about 9 g in 1 cup.

You made my day. And, lest we forget, Jane Fonda was very racy back in the day: ss335114_-_photograph_of_jane_fonda_as_barbarella_from_barbarella_available_in_4_sizes_framed_or_unframed_buy_now_at_starstills__25712__9.wdp.jxr

I did have Ashley Vernon! She is amazing. What a gift to be able to have this surgery with such a skilled surgeon. I am impressed that you have decided to postpone to get your head in the right place. Are you going through Brigham again? They have a lot of resources. Good luck!

    February Surgery ?

Are you still in the hospital? They may have some tips. I had surgery Monday, too, and the only thing that seems to help is walking, walking, walking. Sometimes I belch after water, but it does not give any relief. At the risk of TMI, I have passed gas, which made the hospital happy, but I did not feel any better. I guess it means things are moving. I get this odd gurgly feeling when I drink the water, the RN said it was completely normal. She also said if I get up, even just stand up, it helps it pass. I have to keep reminding myself I JUST HAD MAJOR SURGERY! and I won't feel this way forever. Good luck, and keep walking! Walk walk walk, sip.

    February Surgery ?

I'm really struggling. Yesterday I still had IV fluids until around noon; Beginning last evening I started peeing all that out. I woke up this morning genuinely thirsty, but I can only take a tiny sip or I get nauseous. I've dry heaved after taking my chopped up medicine. This morning I sucked on a sugar free popsicle while walking around my house. It was a tiny popsicle, and I got about a third in before I started to get that nauseous feeling. It was great until then, though! This morning I filled a 24 ounce water bottle and put it in the fridge. I am taking an ounce or so at a time, with a couple of ice cubes, and just sipping it. Re-fill, repeat. I am also going to try to make a cup of hot mint tea, with a little stevia, and sip that until I can't, then refrigerate the rest for some iced tea later. 8 oz. more I'm going to try some bone broth this afternoon. 8 oz. liquid PLUS 9 g. or protein; we'll see how much I can get in. I've set alarms for 10, 2 and 6 to try to get as much protein shake in as I can. But today I am all about hydrating first. I feel like I am girding for battle! But on the upside, I'm more sore than in pain, and I slept 5 straight hours! Got up, took Tylenol, then walked around for a bit, went back to bed and slept another 3hours! Yeah for sleep! How is your post-op battle progressing?

    February Surgery ?

Hello Everyone! I had my surgery yesterday; I was supposed to go in at 2, but the ORs were delayed and I did not go in until about 4:30; got to my room around 7:30. Surgery went without a hitch. Came out of anesthesia much more awake and lucid than I expected. Had some pretty heavy meds in the recovery room. They had me up and walking by 9 that night. As of last night I have been managing pain with Tylenol, and motrin if I need it. The gas was pretty bad, but not as agonizing as I feared. Walking really, really helped. To everyone's surprise, my surgeon let me go home at 2:30 today; I had a 90 mile drive home from Boston and if any of you are from around here you know that Boston traffic is awful, she said I looked good and we should get going and miss the traffic. I got home about 1/2 hour ago. The ride was a bit rough, and I am stiff and uncomfortable. The water is CHALLENGING!!! They started me on protein shakes....if anyone is intolerant of artificial sweeteners and is using one with stevia, bring your own. The ones they gave me at the hospital were so full of those sweeteners I was practically gagging. Have not really slept well in 2 nights; Hope I can get comfortable and get some actual sleep (for more than 1/2 hour) tonight. All in all far less agonizing than it could have been. I hope you all have equally easy times! I'm too tired to read through all the post from my February Surgery mates, I'll do that tomorrow.
