    RNY and Pregnancy

With Kaiser we have no contact with our surgeon after we are two weeks out from surgery. We are only seen from then on by our PCP and the dietician. That’s why I am reaching out here. My PCP has no experience treating RNY patients.
  2. Hi all! I am 18 months post gastric bypass. The experience has been great and I have not had any complications. My biggest issue is reactive hypoglycemia. When I eat too much sugar and/or carbs, my blood sugar tanks about an hour after. Does anyone else struggle with this? Any tips or tricks to better manage? I know it is completely diet related.
  3. None here, 18 months post op RNY. My husband had the sleeve and he has significant acid reflux.
  4. Hi all. Just looking for advice. I will be 18 months post-op from gastric bypass and maintaining around 180. I am looking to get pregnant soon. I got back in touch with my program and PCP and they all seem a little clueless about what I need to do to have a successful pregnancy. Can anyone who had a healthy pregnant post RNY share their vitamin regime? Anything else you did that was different than a non weight loss surgery pregnancy??
  5. I read this comment and didn’t realize until I read this that this is my same scenario. I was very scared and when I went into the surgery and during recovery and the first three months I was depressed and had given up everything I had ever eaten. But slowly I have tried things and realized that I can have almost everything I had pre surgery. Which for some people (as I’ve read) can’t but I am thankful I can as I am aiming to live a balanced life and have a healthy relationship with food. I have found that because I can have all food I have started counseling to deal with my food issues because now, more than ever, I need to learn how to have a balanced and healthy relationship. But knowing I HAVE to hit a protein and water goal has been very nice in helping me. Thanks for writing this reply! I am glad to know other people feel this way in that all the research and horror stories do not happen to everyone and that you can live a balanced life with gastric bypass.
  6. Take the pre-op time very seriously to learn and practice. Make sure to address your food issues before you have surgery to make sure you can overcome them. Just take the pre-op seriously and do the work. It will make post-op work so much easier.
  7. Hello all! Hoping you can give some advice. I am 5 months post-op from gastric bypass. I regularly meet or exceed my protein and water goals (70 ounces protein and 50 ounces water) and am semi-active, but am still dealing with bad constipation. I was taking miralax daily and that was helping but I had right side pain constantly and when I stopped the miralax the side pain stopped as well. Welllllll- I definitely should have replaced the miralax with something because I landed in the ER today for fecal compaction. I’ve tried smooth move and love it but it gives me stomach cramping when going. Also have tried docusate. My questions for you are: 1. Has anyone experienced right abdominal/side pain with consistently taking miralax? If so- any way to still take it without the pain? 2. Has anyone found success to help have normal bowel movements with anything other than above? I meet with my PCP next week but she is so hesitant to do anything for me or offer any advice I want to go to the appointment with a plan of action. Thank you in advance!
  8. My PCP would not refer me either. I was “healthy” and young and just fit the criteria barely. I told her that I needed support and that the bariatric program I was joining could give me services to help in my weight loss that I needed. I told her I’d try the program out for the other benefits and come back to her before my surgery and discuss if it was the right decision if I wanted to do it. I knew all along I was going to do it and never went back to her- maybe I should have because I told her I would but I really dislike my PCP so I didn’t mind.

    Molina Healthcare/ Washington Apple Health

My husband had weight loss surgery in Portland with OWL. We lived two hours south at the time. He had to drive up many times to do it. They also do not give adequate pre-surgery counseling or follow-up. I would not recommend them because of this. The surgeon is great and the process moves quickly, but compared to my program, they did not provide adequate pre surgery education which has led to his surgery and efforts being less successful than mine.

    Post 21-day leak

Oh my gosh, I am so sorry to hear this. I can imagine that you are just ready to get back to any sense of normalcy. Complications are so hard and this sounds very extreme. I hope you find some normalcy soon 🙏🏽

    Protein Bar?

Do you remember how far out from surgery you were when you first tried one!
  14. Hello! I am currently in my 5th week post gastric bypass. My question is when did you all eat a protein bar? What ones were you able to tolerate and taste good? I will Be traveling to Europe around week 11 and I want to bring something that I know I can eat.

    Stomach Pain Question

We figured out it was actually my vitamins! I was taking bariatric fusion chewable 4x per day and I had recently started an additional D3 and iron supplement. Posting so if anyone searches for something similar they can see this.
