Dee2938 got a reaction from justsleeveeverythingtome in Recurring Hunger (2 Weeks Post-Op)?
This is normal and will pass. I first felt hungry all the time after surgery. And, although I would get full quickly, I’d get hungry again just as quickly. I was really worried that I wouldn’t loose enough, or that the surgery would not work for me. But soon this passed and now I’m rarely hungry. I could go all day off of a handful of almonds or a couple of slices of ham if I let myself. I have to remember to eat.

I’m 4 months out and have averaged about 10 lbs a month. I too was super frustrated, however the scale continues to move. I’m down 50lbs which is the most weight I’ve ever been able to loose ever. I’m currently 189lbs. I’d love to get to 125 but if I get to 150 I’ll be happy. I didn’t get this surgery to become a super model, I did it to get healthy and I’m feeling much better already. It is frustrating thinking everyone’s loosing more than you, faster than you, etc. But believe me, it will come off. Just keep doing what you’re doing.
PS I actually feel like I’m loosing more weight after the first few months. It seems like it picked up a bit for me. Maybe the same will happen to you.
pps make sure you drink your Water and are going to the bathroom. That helps flush the weight out too.

You know what worked for me? And it’s completely controversial, but for me, using a straw worked wonders. I know doc said no straws because of gas, but I don’t seem to have that problem and drinking my Water with a straw helps me to get it down much easier.
Also, get yourself a good water bottle. My husband got me a hydroflask, and although it’s expensive, it’s been worth every single penny. It keeps your water cold with very little ice cubes for at least 24 hours. I got the straw lid and it’s been my best buddy. Intake it everywhere.
ps also, it doesn’t sweat so that’s also a big plus.

I was a cash patient I paid $19k all in. Also received a check in the mail for $7,400 must have been things that my insurance was willing to cover. I was expecting $19k so to get $7,400 back months later is just thrilling!

Dee2938 got a reaction from Moa in Mother’s bizarre behavior after my surgery
Oddly enough, I think we all have friends and family members who are not supportive of our choice to have surgery. But they don’t have to live in our bodies. We do! So it’s important to keep that in mind.
I think your mom just wants to “prove” to you that you could have lost it the old fashioned way. However she may be feeling jealousy or insecurity about your success.
I would just talk to her. It’s petty, and it’s not helping anyone. Wish her luck on her weight loss journey, but tell her you are not interested in her methods, you are focusing on your journey. Let her know that what’s done is done. You cant go back so this display is not helping and let her know it makes you uncomfortable, upset, etc, and that you need her to support your decision.
I have a friend who was hell bent on not letting her best friend have the surgery. She did everything in her power to convince her friend that she could loose the weight on her own. Her friend was overweight her entire life why she thought that would suddenly change is beyond me.
Even after, when she started loosing the weight, she insisted that she could have done it on her own. I got into a bit of an argument trying to convince her that no she couldn’t have. If she could have, she would have. But she was not able to, no matter how many times she tried.
After seeing their struggle I chose to tell very few people about my decision to have the surgery. I knew I did not want to go through that with anyone. Of course, I told my mom she stayed with me in the hospital etc, and was super supportive. That’s one reason I feel for you. It would have been awful for me if she wasn’t on board.
There are many people who’s insecurities come out when they see others succeed. It’s very unfortunate that it’s your mom, but it happens. There are friends and coworkers (and family members) that don’t want you to change. It happens with or without the surgery. If you are down it makes them feel up. We all have to just push through and let go of the negative people in our lives.
Give her time after you talk to her. She may get better. But don’t be surprised if she gets more passive-aggressive as you continue to loose. Especially if she stops loosing or regains weight.
Hopefully that won’t happen and you’ll be back to normal before long.
    Good luck.

That’s odd. I was put on two weeks of full liquids after hospital release. I’m one week passed it and I ha e one week to go. I am starting to get hungry and want food. However if I eat or drink anything I get full right away. Ive had some Soups like Tomato Soup and I had to drink it very slowly and carefully. However it did stay down just fine. I can’t imagine trying solid goods yet. Even thick liquids are tough. I would stick to Protein Shakes and soups for now and just take it slow. I’m looking forward to soft foods though. I e even on a liquid diet for nearly a month.

I’m just like you. I’m 3 weeks out and hungry all the time. I feel like I need real food, not Soups and purées. Yet anything I eat, I can only get a few bites down before I’m full then I’m hungry again an hour later. And I’m craving things too. I thought I wouldn’t have to battle these daemons after the surgery, yet I still want to eat. Good thing I can’t.
I’ve kind of moved passed the puréed foods an on to soft foods because I feel like I need solids. I’m a bit lost as to what to eat. I’m having things like soft scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. And lots of soups.
Im only down 10 lbs since my surgery so that has me a little concerned too. However I’m averaging 600 calories a day. Doc says that’s about right for this time after surgery.
Anyway, you’re not alone I too expected to have no appetite at this time, and more weight loss too.

Hey everyone. Thank you for the words of encouragement! Surgery went well. Hooked up to a morphine drip.
The Dr. Also fixed 3 hernias I had! I only knew of the small one in my belly button, not the other two.
Still in the hospital room overnight, SOP. They gave me an ounce of Jello and it completely filled me up.
Fast food on TV MADE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH!!
Nausea is so real right now.
    The stichtes are glue closures.
Great insurance no money out of pocket.
2 hours before my surgery the first person of the day canceled since they ate before the surgery so my surgery was at 6am not8.
    Fast food cravings are gone!

Hi Chula. I’m so sorry to hear about your difficulties. It is really hard a first. I too was in more pain than expected. I doubled up on pills a few times just to get through. However try using over the counter meds to help with the pain.
We have an opioid epidemic going on and docs and hospitals are refusing to give out large amounts of pain meds. This is why you can’t seem to get what you need. And the more you plead the more they refuse because they think you are becoming addicted.
Get some extra strength Tylenol and try taking one in between doses of your stronger meds. Do not, I repeat, do not take more than 4000 ml off Tylenol a day. It can permanently damage your liver. And see if your other meds contain any type of acetaminophen. If so you must count that. I’d be very diligent and not go over 3000 just to be safe. However I find it has helped me a lot.
Try and get your Water in. It is super important and dehydration is probably contributing to your discomfort.
It is shameful that the hospital is not responding to your calls. You need to go in person and demand to see your surgeon. Easier said than done, I know. But right now the emergency room is a good idea. Have them check you for leaks as you may be experiencing some complications and not know it, which contributes to the pain.
Get yourself a medical binder (available on amazon) or ask for one at the ER. It’s a tight wrap you put around your midsection and helps tremendously with pain.
I really hope you feel better soon. No one deserves to suffer more than they should. Whether you chose this or not, you deserve the absolute best care and it doesn’t look like you are getting it. Get yourself back to a hospital ASAP. Try and find a good local one that won’t dismiss your complaints. Not all hospitals are the same. E en if you have to drive further get to the best hospital you can reach.
Good luck. I promise you, this too shall pass. But you’ve tried enough on your own. You need a professionals help to get over this hurdle.
Good luck and please keep us up to date.

I am 10 days out today and finally have dropped all the Water weight from the hospital. Still feeling like a hot mess, but there are changes for the better each day. I am getting in 50 to 60 in fluids a day and only 2 Protein Shakes and do I feel weak. Today is my first follow up appointment. Still taking a nap everyday, but maybe not today. Hubs is taking me and we might go to the store after, so we shall see how that goes. I am worried about going back to work next week. Glad to see everyone is doing so well! Take care!
