  1. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has had their procedure done at this facility Bergen New Bridge Medical Center formerly known as Bergen Medical Center? How would you rate the care given here? My surgeon is Dr. Vadim Gritsus. As long as I've lived in NJ.. never heard of this place & it kinda makes me nervous cause I had my mind set on getting surgery at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck cause I love it there (as much as one can actually love a hospital lol).

New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus, NJ

Yes, my experience was great! The nurses were all wonderful and very attentive. The facility was clean. I felt safe and comfortable. You can get feedback from others in a Facebook group called “NJ gastric sleeve support group”

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

You guys have no idea what a relief it is to hear that ya'll have been stalled for long period of time too!!!! I have been bouncing back and fourth between 192-198 since October 2nd! Its been the longest 3 months ever. @DenverGirl88 I'm also eating about 1500 calories on average because I work out 4-6 days/week. I started Insanity Max30 two weeks ago and managed to get from 195 down to 191 in those two weeks but for the past three months I cant seem to break 190. Its so frustrating because I'm about 20 pounds from goal. I've consulted with my nutritionist but nothing has worked so far other than starting the insanity program.. hoping it continues to work! I am very happy with having lost a total of 84 pounds since my first weigh in to qualify for surgery but I definitely hope to continue losing!
  6. So yeah, I 100% want to transition into veganism as I get closer to the end of my pre-op requirements. I currently only eat chicken and fish (mostly chicken) and very rarely any other meats. We have been having a hard time financially but make "too much" for food stamps so I've been picking up food weekly from a food pantry and sometimes they give us only beef or pork. I try to just not think about it because it makes me uncomfortable. Circumstances will be changing soon & I just see the surgery as a real chance to reset myself and the way I view food and I think it would be a shame if I didn't act on it to the fullest extent. That being said, I'm mostly wondering what you stocked up on for post-op. What broths did you buy? Soups? Protein shakes? I want to be able to stock up on the staple items i'll need so that I wont have to go shopping or send anyone to shop for me.

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

Hi everyone!!! Im almost at the 6.5 month mark & I feel absolutely FANTASTIC. I haven't felt this great since I was a freshman in college. I'm down 79 lbs- everyone is noticing a huge difference which is sometimes a bit awkward because they're like "you look so good" and in my head I'm like "I also looked so good before ...or did I?" Messes with the brain and self esteem in weird ways.. Anywho- I have my days where I look in the mirror and feel like I have a long way to go, but I'm actually 24 lbs away from my surgeons goal of 170lbs. Ive only dumped maybe 3 times "non-traditionally" I get the sweats and have to use the bathroom shortly after. I have had episodes of the foamies 2 times though (dry heaving with only clear slimy stuff coming out?). I haven't been able to pinpoint what triggers it, but I definitely hate it. Surprisingly I am able to tolerate just about anything.. don't judge me or just stop reading now lol.. I've had small portions of: Cake, Chips, Fried Foods, Fast Foods, Pizza, Ice cream the list of no-no's honestly goes on and on. You name it I've probably at least had a bite to test the waters, but I do eat clean 80% of the time- which is my long-term goal. I have been working out on and off. I completed a full body strength training 28 day challenge and worked my way up to running/walking (2.5 minutes running/ 30 seconds walking) 2.47 miles using the run keeper app. I then took a break to plan and have my micro-wedding which was 7/23/20! I'll attach some photos. The wedding threw me for a loop and I didn't workout for about a month after that, so I'm still getting back into the groove and trying to make it a habit. So far so good, I worked out everyday this week (Monday-Friday) I want to take weekends off. I have some loose skin that I think will need some plastic surgery later on in life, I'm not that worried about it right now. Hope everyone is doing well!

    Feeling Great? Too Good??

I also have the same thoughts lol. I feel like IM the one with the problem for not having any problems. Literally have not gotten sick from anything not even once. Fluid intake is great, I’m able to get about 1000 calories in everyday with no issues... I’ve even had a few bites here and there of things I shouldn’t to satisfy my craving and felt completely normal. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ I’m just going with it and hope it never changes lol

Had some whole wheat toast today per my surgeons plan & I was able to tolerate it. I was scared to try it at first cause I heard lots of people dont do well with bread this early.

    What age was yours?

Im 26 and Im exactly one month post op. It's the best decision I ever made hand down & I wish I would have done it at 20 instead. I tried everything from diets and excercise to medication... and you're right, when the medication is over you gain the weight back and then some. Medication is not a long term tool and you're damaging other parts of your body in the process (like your liver). Surgery is a tool that works for you long term. Weigh the pros and cons and make the best decision for yourself!
  11. I just made one today! Looking to see who out there has one so I can follow!! mine is @psquared_vsg
  12. I was sleeved 2/21. I had my first post-op appointment with my surgeon on 2/27, where he told me the following day I could start on purees for 2 weeks and then I could move on to soft foods for 1 week and then be on regular solids following that. I feel like my confusion has stemmed from my nutritionists confusion on where I was in the phases. She kept counting one week less than I would. I'm 4 week post-op tomorrow but will be starting on week 5 solids as far as phases goes. Is this confusing to anyone else or just me? lol
  13. PSquared_vsg

    When does a phase start/end?

Hahaha. OMG yes. Ive even found contradicting instructions in my surgeons paperwork. It's like UGHHH what do you want from me?! I just want to know!!!

I have the same vitamins and I developed the same issue. In the beginning all was well and then suddenly I started gagging while chewing them.. I had an appointment via video with my NUT and she suggested taking them with food or right after eating to see how that works. I'm going to try that tomorrow and if not I'm going to email her asking if I can just buy regular vitamins that I can swallow.

I only weigh myself at appointments. I weighed myself at my parents house once last week. I don’t own a scale & plan to keep it that way for a while.

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

Hey everyone! this is the beginning of week 3 for me & today is my first day back at work (3-11pm). I have a desk job so I've been feeling fine, although on the way here I was a bit nauseous. I took one of the meds they gave me for nausea at the hospital to feel back to normal. I think my multivitamin may be giving me nausea... guess ill see what happens tomorrow when I take it. Other than that everything's been pretty good. My incisions are healing very nicely- I don't expect to be able to see them by the time I reach my goal weight. I've set a short term goal of reaching 220 pounds. I'm currently at 245.

    February 2020 Post-Op Thread

I use Baritastic and myfitnesspal. At first I didn't like the Baritastic app because I could keep track of my flip per ounce and I kept losing track of how much I drank. So I only used myfitnesspal for the first week out. Then I found out about the different reminder options Baritastic has so use it for that. I track just about everything but haven't met with my nutritionist yet so not sure what she'll have me doing when I do meet with her....

    2nd day post op

I was sleeved on 2/21 & I never had a problem getting fluids down either. So, in the beginning I had the same concerns you do. I'm on purees now and I definitely feel restriction. I'm supposed to try to have 3oz of puree and can usually only have 2oz. Now that I'm eating puree I actually feel relieved that I have no problem drinking because I don't have to focus on meeting my fluid intake. Hope I helped.

Hey guys, I’m hereeee 🤗 10 days out and feeling pretty great. I can drink everything as if all was normal but try to pace myself. I’m on purée and I’m usually full at about 2oz. Mostly I’ve been eating puréed chicken breast with garlic roasted hummus or refried beans with some cheese and guacamole. I’m not sure what I want for dinner tonight. It’s so weird to see such small portions and there are times where I wish I could eat regular food in regular portions. I noticed I really enjoy watching my husband enjoy his food. It’s weird but so satisfying.. I’ve been trying to get all Of this into a routine.. not really having luck with that yet. What are your routines like?
