darcyjae got a reaction from KarenLR75 in So what are you unable to eat now?
This surgery has the opposite effect. At least for a while. I'm about to enter week seven and the worst part of the whole experience for me is having to think SO much about eating and drinking. I'm sure it's better than not thinking about it and overeating, but the need to think about what I'm eating, measure, log and eat constantly is pretty relentless compared to before.
  2. Congrats!

You may want to check again. I saw that they changed the indications for surgery yesterday, lowering the recommendations for BMI.

Well, we went on that last nature walk and it was NOT supposed to rain but in the middle of it, we got hit with a deluge of rain and wind (rain coming in sideways). Made it back to car after what felt like forever, completely soaked. We managed to walk 1.7 miles that day and it may have been more if it hadn't been for the rain but that's for another time.
It's been 38 days since surgery now and I've lost 19.8 lbs. I'm made peace, at least for now, with the rate I'm losing as I was a very slow 'loser' prior to surgery (did Keto for 15 months) so I have to remember without this surgery that I definitely would NOT have lost 19.8 lb in 38 days. Yes, in my first month or two of my 15 month keto journey I did lose a LOT...close to this same rate, but that was probably at least 10 lbs of Water weight and that pace was not sustainable.
Current weight loss rate is roughly .52 lbs a day which is actually pretty great in my mind. I do feel STRONGLY that I have to keep up the physical activity multiple times a wk. And I know there are more stalls in my future & even gains as I continue to walk with my daughter and am working on a plan to join a friend at a local gym to walk an air conditioned track with her and also to have access to other machines/weights/etc.
For now I just wanted to give an update. The 'vent' that I left here the other day helped me to get things out so I could start breaking past the negativity that was going on in my mind and thinking. Thanks for the support.

Yeah, I’m only at ~16lbs as I start week 5. (7/30 VSG) I’m thinking we are probably all obsessing a bit over the scale. I’m confident it will come off steadily.

darcyjae reacted to Indigo1991 in How many of you have lost hair?
Sorry to tell everyone but the hair loss is a side effect of the surgery, your body's response to major surgery. So shampoos, Protein, vits improve the quality of ur hair and help with re growth but nothing stops the Hair loss. If there was a way to avoid it, we would all be given the cure! And there would be a lot less guys with shaved heads :-))))
Am currently losing mine but as I said in another post, once it stops and re grows, I will still be healthy and looking great - it's a small price to pay for such a huge change in my life.

I haven’t experienced the “full” feeling per se—at least not like it used to be (as in a feeling of being satiated). Now it’s more like “full up” as in a burp would bring food up.

If you aren’t experiencing that, perhaps your sleeve just has some room? I definitely can take more bites now than a few days after surgery.

You should ask at your weight center but my thought is if you aren’t vomiting it up, and you’re on track for calories and losing steadily it’s probably not worth worrying about.

I have eaten the almond thins (with hummus) and they aren’t bad. But when I tried tuna salad I enjoyed eating it with Parmesan crisps. I got mine from Whole Foods and they are very much like a cracker. I’m one day ahead of you. :)

I'm no expert but from what I'm seeing in this thread 18-20lbs seems to be more or less the average for where you're at, with the sleeve. The RNY folks seem a bit further on, and of course everyone loses at their own rate.
I'm 23 days post op and I'm eating about the same: today was a Protein Drink, a yogurt, and a 2.5oz tuna pouch with 3 parmesan crisps. I'm doing 1-2 hours of walking a day for exercise.
20 pounds in a month is pretty great, so I definitely wouldn't sweat it too hard.
PS: Eating Protein Shakes with milk is a good way to start the day already 31g up on Protein. I use Syntrax's Cappucino with 1% milk and it's a huge help—plus not horrid tasting.

I'm 22 days post OP and have lost 18 lbs to date. My diet currently consist of 2 Premier Protein shakes a day and 1/2 cup of baked or grilled chicken. I'm able to get in 50 to 60oz of Water a day and I do 264 stair steps a day. I've only lost 2 lbs this week, thought it would be more. The nurse says to increase my Protein and water but it's so hard. After a few bites I am already full. Just wondering what I can do to lose more weight. I have alot going on right now and have no time to excercise more than the stairs. I hope I'm on the right track and doing what I should be doing.

4 weeks post op and 20 lbs down since surgery! I met my goal for this four weeks! I was initially sad that I wasn’t losing as quickly as everyone else I saw, but my surgeon said that 20-30 is average for the first month, so I feel much better. Besides, I lost 21 lbs during the 2-week liquid diet, so I’m 41 down overall!

What sorts of things cause you to be re-admitted?
I'm 17 days post-op today, and I'm feeling fairly "normal", all things considered. Wounds have mostly healed up. Not feeling gas when I eat like I was. I was able to eat avocado and spicy tuna tartare for lunch and dinner yesterday with no ill effects. Apart from getting full very fast (and struggling to drink enough—I never drank much Water to start with) I am not experiencing any real issues.
Are the issues you've had things that can just spring up on you? Or have you been struggling since surgery? Anything we should look out for as we go? I hear gallbladders can be dicey.
Karen I hope you're feeling better soon and your CT scans are good!

You're not alone. Many people stray from plan a little (but you probably will not see it written about for fear of being berated)
I also started some solids sooner than recommended. I started regular Beans in the pureed stage, I had a bite of fried dough about 1.5 weeks after surgery, a bite of cake for a going away party, etc.
I did keep up on Protein, only breaking from plan for worthy cause but returning immediately and watching diligently at my hydration levels.
Don't worry about whose looking and judging (except your surgeon 😂) stay vigilant in your journey and enjoy your success.

Mine was 7/30 and I’m at about the same weight loss... but more slow and steady. Also struggling with fluids... some late nights finishing that Water. Started back on soft foods today so I’m graduating from Protein Drinks. I did have one for Breakfast but then had about 1/4 of an avocado with about 1/3 a cup of spicy tuna tartare for a late lunch and so far so good!! It feels good to have real food. Hoping my digestive system agrees.

    On the liquid diet?
My weight center (MGH) allows broth, 1% or skim milk, Tomato Soup (no chunks), and low/no sugar high Protein greek yogurts. And of course clear liquid options like sf popsicles and Jello. But from what I see, diets tend to vary, so definitely refer to what your doctor gave you!
