  1. That sounds super frustrating, Karen. However, I believe your surgeon's office is probably right. I'm in a similar boat. I'm sleeve, but have only lost 15.2 lbs since surgery on 7/31. The last week I've only lost 1.5lbs and I've been walking 3 miles a day and only eating about 600 calories. However, I think we're simply victims of the 3rd week Stall everyone keeps talking about. Have you tried taking your measurements? I happen to have noticed I look better in the mirror and it's only been SINCE that stall began. When I took measurements they were down quite a bit. I don't pretend to understand the science of it, but I've taken to heart some of the advice in the stall forum which says to stop looking at the scale and just keep on keeping on and eventually things will catch up. If there were a serious problem, your weight loss center would be flagging it for you. If they aren't concerned, neither should we be, I think. 😃
  2. I'm no expert but from what I'm seeing in this thread 18-20lbs seems to be more or less the average for where you're at, with the sleeve. The RNY folks seem a bit further on, and of course everyone loses at their own rate. I'm 23 days post op and I'm eating about the same: today was a protein drink, a yogurt, and a 2.5oz tuna pouch with 3 parmesan crisps. I'm doing 1-2 hours of walking a day for exercise. 20 pounds in a month is pretty great, so I definitely wouldn't sweat it too hard. PS: Eating protein shakes with milk is a good way to start the day already 31g up on protein. I use Syntrax's Cappucino with 1% milk and it's a huge help—plus not horrid tasting.
  3. I have eaten the almond thins (with hummus) and they aren’t bad. But when I tried tuna salad I enjoyed eating it with Parmesan crisps. I got mine from Whole Foods and they are very much like a cracker. I’m one day ahead of you. :)
  4. I haven’t experienced the “full” feeling per se—at least not like it used to be (as in a feeling of being satiated). Now it’s more like “full up” as in a burp would bring food up. If you aren’t experiencing that, perhaps your sleeve just has some room? I definitely can take more bites now than a few days after surgery. You should ask at your weight center but my thought is if you aren’t vomiting it up, and you’re on track for calories and losing steadily it’s probably not worth worrying about.
  5. Good luck! I’ve been in the hospital three times post surgery and have had the CT scan. Hopefully everything is okay! What sorts of things cause you to be re-admitted? I'm 17 days post-op today, and I'm feeling fairly "normal", all things considered. Wounds have mostly healed up. Not feeling gas when I eat like I was. I was able to eat avocado and spicy tuna tartare for lunch and dinner yesterday with no ill effects. Apart from getting full very fast (and struggling to drink enough—I never drank much water to start with) I am not experiencing any real issues. Are the issues you've had things that can just spring up on you? Or have you been struggling since surgery? Anything we should look out for as we go? I hear gallbladders can be dicey. Karen I hope you're feeling better soon and your CT scans are good!
  6. Mine was 7/30 and I’m at about the same weight loss... but more slow and steady. Also struggling with fluids... some late nights finishing that water. Started back on soft foods today so I’m graduating from protein drinks. I did have one for breakfast but then had about 1/4 of an avocado with about 1/3 a cup of spicy tuna tartare for a late lunch and so far so good!! It feels good to have real food. Hoping my digestive system agrees.
  7. My NP took them off yesterday at my surgical follow up. (Surgeon on vacation) That was my day 13.
  8. Huh. Well that sounds very uncomfortable. I hope it alleviates for you, soon!!
  9. I’ve never heard of stapling the stomach to ribs either... I haven’t experienced much pulling or burning internally or at incisions (except when I poke at them to see if they are healing). I have more pain from gas or also in my IV vein at this point. (I think I may have that superficial thrombosis thing, but that’s mild pain, too.) Are you engaging your core strenuously, like in exercises? Or just things like sitting up or reaching?
  10. I’m about in the same place. I am on day 11 after surgery on 7/30. I only lost a few pounds in the weeks leading up to surgery (probably because I hadn’t weighed myself and the week before my ‘shrink the liver’ started I was on a cruise and likely gained. But I went into surgery around 254 and am 246 this am. I’m surprised at the big numbers some folks have posted in their first week! Congrats to all of you! I will say I feel incredibly bloated with water though, so that may be playing a role. My incisions are doing great and I’m able to walk about 45min or more a day, but wow is having to do all this drinking tedious. (The gas pains while consuming aren’t too fun, either.) I’m looking forward/hoping to get to a new normal routine where everything doesn’t revolve around drinking/eating, but maybe that’s naive?
  11. Forgive me if this has been answered 100 times. I looked through a few months of posts but didn't see it. I had VS surgery on 7/31 and everything went smoothly. I've been able to get in all my walks, my incisions are good and generally I feel comfortable. I am a tad constipated but things ARE moving. I am on Prilosec and tylenol. My issue is that I seem to be experiencing a sort of "call and response" pain in my stomach after each sip or swallow of water/protein drink/yogurt. It gets worse later in the day and makes the chore of getting enough liquid much more tedious. I think it might be a gas pain, though it manifests like sort of a strong hunger pang. Sometimes there's a burp, but many times not. My question is, is this par for the course? And if so, will it pass and when? Thanks for any insight you might have!
  12. On the liquid diet? My weight center (MGH) allows broth, 1% or skim milk, tomato soup (no chunks), and low/no sugar high protein greek yogurts. And of course clear liquid options like sf popsicles and jello. But from what I see, diets tend to vary, so definitely refer to what your doctor gave you!

    Full liquid diet

It does suck. It reminds me of having a newborn baby. So relentless, where you barely finish and have to start again. Plus, I dislike artificial sweeteners so I find the liquid part even worse, because the protein shakes are so blech. My liquid diet allows me to eat high protein, low sugar greek yogurt though, which I think makes a difference. I also find that Syntrax's decaf cappuccino flavor does a lot to kill the bad taste of the protein shake, so I start with that in the am. In the afternoon I find Syntrax cookies and cream pretty bearable. Then in the evening I "treat" myself to chicken broth as my clear liquid and an Icelandic yogurt as my protein, and it feels quite normal getting to eat with a spoon. (Plus the hot soup feels pretty good on my stomach.) Add 20-25 more ounces of water/clear liquid and it all evens out. I just hope by the time soft foods come around I'll be able to swallow without feeling gas pains. 😃 Good luck!
