I was so excited to try these- I know, I know, carbs are still not good, but these are high Protein and I can only have a small amount... I found it on a bariatric website, and guys, these are AMAZING. (I didn't include the berries in mine, so the carbs are closer to about 5 for what I made, and I used 1/2cup of liquid egg whites instead of 3/4cup, so it tasted closer to real pancakes rather than eggy.)

The key here on a surgery decision is how well can you maintain the loss that you attain?
It is not unusual to lose 10-15 lb fairly quickly when one starts a serious weight loss program (the so-called "easy ten") as your body tends to use up its quick energy reserves of glycogen (basically stored carbohydrate) which burns off fairly quickly. On average, we have 2 lb of glycogen kept in solution by about 8 lb of Water - the "easy 10". YMMV, but I suspect that guys tend to store a bit more as we are more muscular, and glycogen is stored in the muscle tissues. Once your body runs out of glycogen and it gets the idea that you are serious about this caloric deficit thing, it changes gears and starts to tap your stored fat to live on and to partially restore functional glycogen levels, but there may be a bit of a lag or stall before that happens (look up the three, or third, week stall)
It is very common for people to go through a pre-op weight loss program of some months, either for insurance purposes or as a "one last try..." and lose a lot of weight and think they have this nailed, and decide against the surgery. And then the weight comes back on, just as usually happens after major diet efforts (which is why most are here looking for WLS.)
I did the insurance diet in concert with my wife, who was #1 on the runway - much higher BMI and comorbidities - and lost about 50lb or a third of my excess in that time. Philosophically, it was less of a weight loss oriented diet as it was a weight control or maintenance diet - what habits do I need to develop for 5-10 years out to maintain health and weight, rather that maximizing short term loss.
As we were still trying to get my wife on the table (the DS she needed was still considered "investigational" by many insurers at the time) so I went into sustain mode - kept up tweaking the diet to keep it sustainable but made little progress on additional loss, but also maintained the loss that I had accomplished. Even after she finally had her WLS I maintained the loss and didn't feel overly inclined to go for the WLS (the VSG was not routinely performed or approved by insurance yet at that time, and I deemed the DS and RNY to be overkill for my needs.) Once the VSG was being approved by our insurance, several years later, it was apparent that I still needed that help to get the remaining weight off, though I was still maintaining that initial loss; had I regained what I had lost as is often the case, I would have gone for the DS instead, as that has much better regain resistance than the other procedures.
So, by all means, think, rethink and reconsider the process and be comfortable with it. But do take a long term look at it, not just what weight can you lost over the next 6-12 months.
    Good luck on it!

Slip-ups are normal because we're human and we didn't get to our larger sizes by eating too much salad. LOL! Stick to the program of focusing on Protein, get your Water in, and have healthy Snacks available.

Made these today in honor of Valentine's day. Salted caramel Protein cheesecake. The texture was very light, closer to cake than cheesecake. Since I am on soft food phase, I made them without the crust on the bottom.

I made salted caramel Protein mini-cheesecakes yesterday. It was delicious. Texture was more cake like than cheesecake, but that was OK. My stomach handled it fine, but I could only eat about 2/3 of it. I used 4 oz ramekin and the recipe makes 4. 205 calories, 13 g fat, 6 g carbohydrate, 15 g protein.

Make an appt with your primary physician, and then have them give you a referral to a bariatric surgeon. I gave myself the out when I first went, told myself I wasn't 100% sure if I wanted to go through with it, i didn't have too. But i made myself commit to the process, knowing it would take 6 to 8 months (depending on what your insurance requires. Money required 6 months of appts with a dietitian, and after those were finished then a few other appts with my 0rimary to have an ekg and a physical). It isn't a fast process. I started last July, and finally am starting my pre-OP diet monday, surgery scheduled for march 3. So this is my long way of saying call and make an appt and get the ball rolling! Good luck!

I’m almost 7 weeks out from surgery. When I first started my weight loss journey last July I was a 2x and they were tight. At surgery I was a tight 1x. Today I bought some XL shirts. Woohoo!

Breakfast this morning. Another cheese omelette with a little diced spam lite in it. I am using egg beaters smart cups which are single servings. It looks big because that is a 6 inch salad plate I am using. Took me 25 minutes, but I was able to finish it.

Valentine's Day Breakfast this morning. More fun with flags, I mean chaffles.

I laugh that this is only 202 calories for the meal. I totally cheated and used a bottle hollandaise that's only 70cals for 2 tbsp. I only had 1 tbsp so boom baby. I'll take 35cals for hollandaise!

Yes, it took about 30 to 45 minutes. I've really been working on taking small bites and pausing 30 to 60 seconds between bites. Remembering that "stuck" feeling is helping me be more mindful.

I have been really good about taking small bites so far. Prior to surgery I used to just scarf food down. I had one meal where I ate too fast and had the same thing. Felt like there was a lump of clay in my chest/stomach. Haven't made that mistake again. You just have to be mindful all the time. Hopefully keeping it up will build good habits.

Today I had my first oops! I was trying to get my daughter out of the house for volleyball practice and we were all chatting and running around, you know, family dinner chaos, and I shoved a piece of deli meat in my mouth and swallowed it without even thinking about chewing well. I feel so good most days (other than being tired) that I literally forgot I had to eat slow.

You know what reminded me? The vomit that followed. The food felt stuck and usually I can burp through that feeling but not this time. It came right back. That'll show me. Lol
