Well, I had my sleeve 2 weeks ago tomorrow. I must say, no regrets! Im alive, and no acid reflux. The most painful part was my stomach contracting for a couple of the days after the surgery. I think it was my stomach growling which was painful due to the surgery I imagine. It seemed to improve a bit once I had the leak test.. the Fluid they have you drink probably helped my empty tiny little banana stomach lol.

I had my DS last Thursday. I was terrified, but I knew it was what I needed to do to live. And turns out It was a piece of cake. I haven't really had any pain. And only had nausea for the 3 days I stayed at the hospital, but nothing to severe. I basically slept the whole time. Now I'm focusing on healing and hopefully I can lose some weight.

I saw my dietitian for the first time today. She was really impressed with how much weight I've lost (and the fact that I had already met my goal weight to be eligible for surgery prior to our meeting). We talked for a bit, told her how I had been doing a lot of research on the surgery, using these forums for support, and showed her my MyFitnessPal app, so she could see how/what I was eating. She told me she'd like me to try breaking up my meals from being 3 daily to 6, so that I'd be more comfortable after surgery with the frequency of how I would need to be eating then. Good advice!
She also mentioned that I would need to get an appointment with the nurse before she could schedule me for the surgery, but when she went to talk to her and explained how confident I was and how much I progressed, she went ahead and set up my surgery date, anyways!! April 27th! ♥
The only appointment I have left is a 1-on-1 patient seminar, which is March 6th. I'm so excited, you guys!

I am seeing a trend towards new people asking the same fears that a ton of us had! I am only 8 Months out the exact age of the puppy in the picture! he is getting bigger and i have gotten smaller! Here is my view on the main things i see in here on a daily basis
    a. Nobody can say if you keep going the way you currently are you will live a happy disease free life! So jump on the journey or enjoy your disease filled short lived life ending up in a coffin early and missing out on grand kids, spouse, etc time
    b. Mind over matter! The mind is a wicked tool and can be a wicked enemy, Find something to ride this journey out with - Mine was this dog, Yours kid be a spouse friend or a pet. Do not let you mind whip your ass! Get control of it and the surgery is a tool - You have to run the workshop!
    c. DO not panic and do not fear, So you lost only 2 pounds this week that is 104 pounds a year! Yea like you could do that without WLS.
    D. IgNore the haters and negative from others, This is your journey and stupid people do stupid things so just become ICE b***h!
    e. No two of us are the same, So you need to adjust your Vitamins and minerals and diets to your body! you also have to move and work out - it really helps the plan
I am asking the wizards in here to add on the advice and help - Getting the same posts over and over and I agree i was uneducated and crashed big time, Feel free to read back to my crash post
ALSO DO NOT BUY A PUPPY UNLESS YOU REALIZE IT IS LIKING HAVE A BABY AGAIN ON MONSTER DRINKS! A special thanks goes out to WInston for beating me and making me move for the last 8 months - a tool to my success! Given to my by my girlfriend and kids

The dietitian at the hospital gave me this little booklet with the 4 stages of food to follow. I am just finishing up 1st week of full liquids post-op (jealousof those who can have pureed food). I scanned it in so I could share. This is what my doctor & dietitian recommended, so if your doctor is different then please follow their advice.
    Post-OP Nutrition Guide
I think it has some good information though.

    A few things to consider-
    Do you have/are you:
    Tracking super accurately?
    Hydrating properly?
    Vitamins and minerals in order?
    Snacking regularly?
    Including sugar?
    Drinking your calories?
    Consuming enough Fiber?
    Eating enough Protein?
    Eating beyond capacity?
    Proper sleep hygiene?
    Stress management plan?

    Good Luck 🌈

Made these today in honor of Valentine's day. Salted caramel Protein cheesecake. The texture was very light, closer to cake than cheesecake. Since I am on soft food phase, I made them without the crust on the bottom.

And my doctor cleared me for the weight machines at the gym (provided I can get in 500 cals a day) at my two week post op appt.

There literally is no standard in bariatric surgery. I also believe every person may have different recommendations. For instance I was fairly young and fit before surgery and had no pain, incision or otherwise within a few days after surgery. But there may be an older person who has been sedentary and unfit. We may get two very different recommendations from our doctor's.

Uomograsso reacted to NovaLuna in Did anyone go crazy before pre op diet started?
I know myself very well so during the eight months it took from when I first saw the bariatric doc up until my two week pre-op diet I started eliminating the things I wouldn't be able to eat after my surgery one by one. The first month I ate smaller portions with no seconds. The second month I cut out soda. The third month I cut out rice. The fourth month I cut out Pasta. Fifth month I cut out bread. Sixth month I cut out potatoes and Beans. And the following two months I just kept to the diet. On the day of my surgery I had lost 64 pounds. My doctor said my liver looked great. He said my surgery was remarkably easy because of my dedication to my pre-diet that I hadn't even been asked to do so that made me feel like it was totally worth it. I'm not even a month post-surgery yet and I'm in the second week of my soft foods diet and I'm really glad I did that pre-diet or else I'd be struggling. I do miss the oddest things though... I'm dying for a salad lol and I can't have that for another two months! I also miss peanuts! T.T
Honestly though, if you have good self control and eating your favorite foods before you can't anymore will make you happy then go for it! I, myself, have self-control issues which was the reason for my pre-diet. It helped me with those issues. Now I can find the will power to watch my family eat cake or donuts or Chinese food and not want to cheat.

Uomograsso reacted to Hill_Billy in Kaiser DC/MD/VA surgery timeline
Last summer when I started thinking seriously about bariatric surgery, I had trouble finding info on the timeline for Kaiser patients in the DC/MD/VA area. So for anyone who's interested, here's the process (and my timeline):
Got a referral from my primary care provider (9/3/19) 1/2 WLS class with a nutritionist (9/19/19) 1/4 appt with a nutritionist (10/23/19) 1/2 Surgeon-led bariatric info session @ Holy Cross (11/12/19) 2/4 appt with a nutritionist (11/22/19) 2/2 Surgeon-led bariatric info session @ Holy Cross (11/27/19) 2/2 WLS class with a nutritionist (12/20/19) 3/4 appt with a nutritionist (1/16/20) 4/4 appt with a nutritionist (2/12/20) Got approved for surgery (2/14/20) Appt with surgeon @ Holy Cross to schedule surgery (3/3/20) It's designed to be a six-month program starting with your referral and ending with the appt with your surgeon to schedule surgery (with variety of mandatory classes and one-on-one sessions spread out over the course of those six months). Here are some of the other requirements you have to take care of before a board will review your medical record and approve you for surgery:
Ideally, you lose some weight, but there aren't a set number of pounds you have to lose. Behavioral health evaluation H-Pylori antibody stool test sleep apnea screening Write a letter to the surgeon about why you want to have surgery Although my nutritionist is at South Baltimore County Medical Center, the only two bariatric surgeons currently available for Kaiser patients in the DMV are at Holy Cross in Silver Springs. My surgery will likely be at Largo Medical Center, and once it's scheduled, I'll update this post but I've been told to expect a six to eight week wait.
    I hope this helps!

I swallowed my medications day 1 in the hospital. As long as they were smaller than a pencil eraser. I don't think absorption is an issue. They gave me a pill splitter for anything larder. I've been taking them whole along with my Vitamins in pill form for over a month now. I am 9 weeks out.

I did as directed nothing after midnight. My surgery was at 1:30pm. I was stuck 3 times with that big needle. On the 4th try where I first said to stick me at worked. I still have 1 massive bruise on my hand and 3 others.

I'm currently shooting for between 70-90 grams myself. But I mix extra in with one of my morning Soups so that I get a great big boost early on. My morning Soup has 40 grams in it with extra scoop of protein added to it. My body thrives on protein though, since I was Keto 18 months prior to surgery. I know we're all different.

You can't collect on life insurance if you kill someone where you are the beneficiary, lol. I used to work for insurance company and heard some interesting stories about that. As to WLS being a scam let her know RNY has been done for over 50 years. Also show her some of the before and after pics. That was one of my motivations, wanting to look like the after pics after spending all my life looking like the before pic.

    ABOUT WORLD OBESITY DAY
People with obesity are constantly shamed and blamed for their disease. This is because many people - including doctors, policymakers, and others - do not understand that obesity is a chronic disease. They see it as a simple lack of willpower, laziness, or a refusal to "eat less and move more". But like all chronic diseases, the root causes of obesity run much deeper. They can be genetic, psychological, sociocultural, economic and environmental. It is time we break the cycle of shame and blame and revaluate our approach for addressing this complex chronic disease that affects 650 million people worldwide.
Join us and organization’s around the world for a new World Obesity Day on March 4, 2020, as we push for more comprehensive solutions, treatment and collective responsibility for addressing this global epidemic. Together, we can address the far reaching personal, societal, and economic impacts of obesity.

Did they send you home with an incentive spirometer? The thing that you blow in? Using that a couple times an hour should help to clear your lungs and get things moving to make it easier to breathe, but I would definitely make a call to your surgeon to make sure everything is ok
