    Hi Ladies,
This is what I have done to get ready so far.
    1) Purchased my pre-op liquid diet shakes called Optifast and I will be starting them on Oct. 19th
    2) Bought the required Vitamin supplements recommended by my bariatric team for the 1st two months after surgery.
    3) Purchased Premiere Protein for my Liquid Protein supplement for after surgery
    4) Purchased a small single serve blender "Ninga Bullet" to help me with making my shakes yummy and my pureed food yummy (I'm hoping)
    5) I'm telling my office on Oct 19th that I will be having surgery on the 10th of November
    6) Joined a very local WLS group so I can connect with people in person. I think I am going to initiate some group walk events so we can meet outside safely. We are in a rural area so that will be easy for us.
    That's it so far....

I can tolerate the taste of chewable vitamins better if I actually let them dissolve in my mouth while sucking on them.
By the looks of it, it will depend on whether the capsule outer is a slow release outer. Sounds like something you should discuss with your surgeon.

I take ProCare capsules. I didn't start with those, I had Celebrate chewables, and chewable Iron. The iron was gross and my surgeon recommended the Procare because it has everything I need but Calcium.
I was allowed to swallow pills and capsules from day one.
I've been pretty happy with Procare so far.

I went into my initial consultation thinking that I wanted the sleeve, but my surgeon pushed me to get gastric bypass instead because I had a very high starting BMI (over 60). I had gotten the impression that the sleeve was a more modern, less risky, less extreme surgery, but my surgeon explained that the risks are about equal (although there are different risks), and gastric bypass typically results in more weight loss. I was unsure at the time, but as I learned more about both surgeries, I became more confident that gastric bypass was the right surgery. It might just be confirmation bias, but I've seen a lot of people talk about getting severe GERD with the sleeve, and/or not losing enough weight, and getting a revision to bypass.
What surgery you get is YOUR decision, though, so if you are not comfortable with it, you have the right to cancel. However, it's best to avoid making big decisions when you're in a heightened emotional state, so what were your thoughts a few weeks ago when the surgery was a little farther in the distance and you were in a calmer state of mind?

I was told to take chewable vitamins for the first 6 weeks after surgery. I used BariMelts. You don't even have to chew them; they melt in your mouth. They're not bad, but they're a bit pricey, so I've switched to capsules that are cheaper. I still take NatureMade sublingual B12 (they're cherry-flavored and melt in your mouth) and Natrol Biotin (strawberry-flavored and delicious), which are very affordable on Amazon.

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies.
I told my Dad last night over a cup of coffee (decalf LOL) and he was very supportive. He asked a lot of questions and I answered them to the best of my ability. I explained to him why I hadn't told him sooner and he accepted that. He said he would support me in anything I wanted to do. He understood my feelings and he is very happy for me. My Dad is 80 and my Mom passed away in March of this year. I didn't want to worry him. We had a bit of a cry and quite a few hugs. All in all it went very well.
This is a great group. Thanks for your help and support.

As a parent, I would be extremely hurt if my child didn't tell me they were having surgery. Any surgery. A parent may not like some of your choices but I would think they would want to be there for you. And a reasonable discussion of the pros and cons would educate them. Parents aren't just people, no one will love you like a parent. I didn't tell people, but I told the ones I love and love me, but I also made it very clear that this was happening and it wasn't their decision to make.

It's been a minute since 1974. Times change. Science advances.
First, you don't HAVE to tell Dad anything. You're an adult, more or less, so it's your choice who you tell what.
You know your Dad. You know if telling him is a good idea or not. *IF* you choose to tell your Dad, you even know how you should do it. You have more experience in this that we do.
Trust yourself. Trust Dad if it makes sense to do so.
    Good luck,

Yes, measuring cups, small plates and bowls, I need those.
Good advice about not getting too many post-op things so soon... thank you!
BTW, after many phone calls today, I got in for November 10th. I told my boss I need a "medical procedure" and she is great with my time off. (Only telling a few about the bypass)
    Alleluia! I'm scared, and happy!!!

    Hiya!
My surgery is November 10th and I started my journey in August of 2019. I can't believe it's (surgery) is finally getting close! I start my liquid diet 3 weeks prior to surgery so on October 19th. I'm prepped and ready to go. It has been an extensive process to get to this point. I'm in Canada so things are a bit different here than in the states. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!

    First thing I’d suggest-
    BREATHE!
You can do this. Just make sure you have everything you need for your pre-op diet and don’t overly stress yourself. The rest will work itself out.

The only supplies I needed the first two weeks was Water, sugar free Jello, Bone Broth, Decaf tea. I was on a liquid diet. That gave me time to prepare for the second phase of pureed food. Don't overthink it. Once done you like many of us will wonder why you didn't do it earlier. Good luck and start to enjoy a healthier life.

The same thing happened to me, got a call two weeks before surgery just after things started opening after covid. It got postponed two months. It'll never be the perfect time. Go get it done. Things will work out. All you need to get started are Protein Drinks and Water.

I would try to figure it out and get it done in October. No one knows what's going on with CoVid and whether there will be a second, much worse outbreak. Things could start shutting down again. The sooner you do it - the better. And you will be thankful you didn't postpone it once your surgery is over with... You can ask questions on here and get the help you need to be prepared.
