Could you please share your favorite supplements brand for multi vitamins/iron/calcium and why they’ve worked best for you? I need to order some and am confused between chews (like Starbursts?) and liquid (better absorption?) and chewables (chalky?). I care most about proper absorption bc I’m having gastric bypass and want to keep my levels healthy. Thanks all!

So I did it, I got to onederland, a place I dreamt of but did not ever believe I would attain. I thought loosing 100lbs was a reach but I ran through that. I was on a super high until I wanted to change my next goal weight. The BMI doodah says that I am still in the obese range, damn. 150 to 180lbs is still classed as overweight, do I really need to get another 49 lbs off my already skinny bod to be in the 'normal' range ? What are your thoughts on a new goal weight ?

"That is purely a myth. In the early days of weight-loss surgery, drinking through a straw was a no-no because of how the procedure was done. Even though this isn’t an issue with contemporary weight-loss surgeries, the myth persists. Rest assured that you can keep using a straw."

Hello everyone - greetings from sunny Florida! Just had my first convo with my GP about how to get started with this journey… she said to start with calling insurance companies. Do I just start calling random companies and see their criteria?? I’m completely in the dark about this process. After the insurance process what would be next? Any help/your own process stories would be appreciated! Thanks 😊

Yes!!! I am so happy I wasn't the only one that went through that. I am surprised at others who actually got through the process at Park Nicollet. I also ditched Park Nicollet and got a second opinion on the ED. It is super weird how other programs work!! Fairview-Your first appointment/meeting is with a group of people who are interested in the program and then at the end you add your name on the list if you want to make your first appointment with a nurse/dietician. Mayo-you see an endocrinologist/dietitian/therapist all in one day. Till this day I feel like the provider who denied me was trying to get more money in by referring her patients to the Emily Program.

Congratulations to you! Best wishes as you continue! I'm finding my 7th month has really slowed down with the weight loss, but I expected that. I figure it might take 6 more months to get the remaining pounds off -- unless I can find an additional hour to increase exercise!🏋️‍🚵‍♀️🤸‍♂️🤽‍♀️

I’d agree to call your surgery center just to be careful and better safe than sorry. Sometimes things can end up inflamed if you are something that didn’t agree with you and there can be discomfort. I’ve vomited due to a food intolerance and then not felt right for a couple days in terms of pressure or spasming. Your stomach is still healing and can easily be irritated.

    Hi,
The November surgery thread on the gastric sleeve forum seems to have disappeared. Please can you reinstate it or allow me access again? It's where all my buddies are!

I was self pay for my sleeve - my employer-paid insurance plan had a specific exclusion against bariatric surgery. All in all, it was just under $20k. Had a stuck to my original practice, it would have been much closer to $30k (I'm in the Washington, DC area).
Timing from start to finish is hard to comment on in my case... I switched practices at the beginning of COVID so that slowed things down incredibly. And then I was a bit slow in getting some of the requirements done (like getting my endoscopy, etc) because life and work got crazy. If I had been more on top of that sort of thing, it would have been faster esp with no insurance involved.

I'm glad your mother-in-law is supportive and willing to help you out. Hopefully she can smack some sense into her son while you're in the hospital.

I am having gastric bypass surgery on July 28 and my extended family has been adamant that I should get the sleeve instead of the bypass. Seven of them group texted me last night about it. I felt like i was being attacked. They basically think that every horror story is going to happen to me. They act like I haven’t done an enormous amount of research on the subject (which i have of course) and don’t know the risks. Has anyone else dealt with this?

I have beef and pork rarely because I have to crave them to eat them. They seem to sit well most of the time but I have “off” days with foods every once in a while.

chicken has been my biggest issue after my RNY revision but I’m slowly able to eat it now that I’m 9 months out from it.

I had a Vsg revision to bypass on 03/23 I’m feeling okay there’s more pain this time around. I am able to sip liquids okay but the purée are not sitting to well. They’re waiting on signs that my bowels are active again then I should be discharged.Good luck and speedy recovery to all March Surgeries 😊😊

I have a Starbucks skinny cinnamon dolce latte on my way to work every morning. The nutrition info for it is 100 calories, 14g carbs, 9g Protein. I started my pre-op diet yesterday. My Dr. states for the 3 weeks prior to surgery I should have at least 100g protein and less than 50g carbs per day. They are OK with coffee. I'd like to swap this out with something lower in carbs. I can't drink plain black coffee. Has anyone had any success mixing Protein Powder with their coffee for a latte type substitute? If so, do have suggestions for one with the best flavor/best mixes in to hot liquids?

After a year of Drs appts and tests and after one denial...I got approved. Now for the money part...yikes lol. I know that my surgeon is requiring $1502(my insurance deductible is $1500 and i've met a good deal of that already)...now i'm waiting to hear from the hospital about what they will need up front. The surgeons part has to be paid before the surgery is scheduled and the hospital's part has to be paid 10 days before surgery.
How much did y'all have to pay to the hospital up front? I'm having RNY by the way.
