  1. Congrats!
MzTrip got a reaction from Linda13108 in Eating too fast
I just saw my nutritionist this morning. The one bit of advice that I found particularly helpful for eating too fast is to take half of your meal and leave the other half in the kitchen. After you eat the first half wait 10 minutes and then get the other half. I hope it's some help to someone.

Thank you so much! I didn't think the surgery worked for the first 2 mths plus until I took that 3 mth picture and put it next to my starting picture. It makes me so excited to think of what the next coming months will bring!

I don't know if I'm sharing this in the right place but I wanted to share my progress after 3 mths. I'm down 50 pounds. I'm at 178 on my way to 135. I'm 5'3 and started at 228 pounds. I'm so happy.

I don't know. Only 5 months out? It seems unlikely you've stretched out your pouch (although admittedly, you didn't provide enough information to know EXACTLY how much you eat at a sitting. So, it's hard to know for sure).
I would say that it's more likely that all of your post-op swelling has gone down and your suture line is healed, so you have a slightly larger capacity than you did in the 1st months. It could also be that you're eating "slider foods" that slide through the sleeve easier than others.
#1-examine exactly how much and what you are eating. #2-if you truly feel you're eating more than you should be able to, consult your doctor.

At 5 months post op you may swelling that could have subsided. You may be seeing your Surgeon in about a ninth anyway si don't change anything they have not instructed you to do without running it by them first.
Give your surgery a fair chance to work
Try to strip your meals down to Protein and a small amount of vegetables first. Almost everyone seems to gain traction when they do this, if nothing else. Good luck 💙

It is quite normal for you to be able to eat more now than you could earlier in your post op progression, and for you to be able to eat more in the future. This doc gives a pretty good window on this progression:
There is also nothing that says that this progression will be linear - you may feel quite restricted for a while at the outset and as the inflammation subsides, notice that you are eating more than you were not long ago.
What I like about this vid is that it teaches us how to live with this fact of increasing meal volume, rather than fight it. This isn't to say that you shouldn't continue to keep your eating volume under control, but to realize that some increase is normal and not to go to the extremes like these reset diets to try to counter it.
You may or may not like this doc's prescription for living with this increase (I don't agree with everything he says, either) but to use this as a guide in finding your own path. As we progress, we tend to be able to eat a wider variety of foods - which is a good thing, nutritionally - but also a danger if we get into eating the wrong things consistently. His concept of eating veg first is sound - make sure we get in our Protein requirement, but fill in that additional capacity with bulky, low calorie veg. It may not be your thing, but it is a good example of what can be done that you can use in finding your own path to long term success.
    Good luck...

My surgery was 5 mths ago. Since then I have left a relationship, started a new job, fallen in love, and started a new relationship. I went from completely miserable to the happiest I've ever been. It didn't take long before my new boyfriend saw how filling up on food really hurts me and he's become even more conscientious of my eating than I am sometimes... Same with my daughter.... My point is I have full support surrounding me. I feel, however, that I have stretched my pouch in the last month. I'm able to eat a good amount of food compared to what I could eat a mth ago. I can even eat foods that I wasn't able to eat. I haven't lost weight or inches in 3 or 4 weeks. I'm really scared I've ruined it for myself. Should I do a pouch reset? Do you think it would help? Thank you in advance for any advice.

It's pretty normal to have mood swings during the weight loss journey. Hormones change, body image changes, and relationships change. And it's quite a dilemma when we find our "go-to" coping mechanism taken away, especially during times of stress. So we have to find other, healthy ways to cope and deal with our emotions. Exercise is great! Maybe not so fun to start out, but by setting small goals, you can regain a sense of control and empowerment. Exercise releases good mood hormones and really does help relieve physical and emotional stress. It relieves depression, improves all your bio-markers like cholesterol, HDL, LDL, glucose levels. It raises metabolism and builds lean muscle mass. If you haven't started on an exercise routine, I would highly recommend starting one now. Just start by walking and doing 20 wall pushups 3 times a day. Track your activity and gradually increase the level and add new routines. It can make a real difference. Get a step tracker - it is highly motivating. Now, for the magic......... if you get yourself into a routine that is enjoyable - maybe just walking 20 minutes a day, you will find that the pleasure chemicals in the brain will start to over ride the desire for food to deal with stress and negative emotions. It really does happen. It then becomes a wonderful way to cope with whatever comes your way. JMHO.
Hang in there. This, too, shall pass. You are not alone.

Do you have access to a bariatric nutritionist or counselor? Uncontrollable eating, especially this early when you still have ample restriction, is a red flag. If not, maybe you can find an overeaters anonymous meeting near you or online? You've gone through a lot of pain and expense to be successful. Do whatever it takes now to keep that success going. Good luck to you.

So I'm 8 months out and thought I'd try some ice cream the other day. It made me sicker than a dog! Thank goodness my stomach doesn't like it because that way I won't be tempted to overdue it. I only had 1/2 cup but that was enough.

Hi! Dont forget to drink more fluids first. Sometimes thirst mimics hunger.
Also salads and vegetables are filling and low calorie on the days you feel the need to eat more.
And if you need a snickers like treat, look for Protein candy bars. At least the calories are modest and you can add to your protein intake instead of just carbs.
    Good luck 💜

Some days early on I had an urge to eat. I wasn’t physically hunger, I just wanted to eat!

If I couldn’t push past it with fluids, then I ate, but made sure all my decision were good ones. I ate cucumbers with vinegar, carrots w ranch made from yogurt, Jerky, lean meats, etc.

Keep some sf Jello at hand always, also try to get more liquid in during the day. It helps me keep my mind off of food because sometimes you're just dehydrated. SF Jello helps with the binge issue has no calories, and helps with dehydration. Its a win win snack!

I was a Bad Little girl the other day- TOMKITTEN asked me to make him a Cinnamon Strudel, Okay I can do that! Well when got,it all finished , baked and out of the oven Bad Little ME cut a sample, honestly about 1/8 inch, told Myself" You'll Be Just Fine"-- Oh No I wasn't- sat down in my recliner- and Suddenly Precious Pouch woke from her internal slumbering and I was off to PukeCity, and I spent a good 1/2 hour doing just THAT , when she had emptied out the strudel she wasn't satisfied to just relax, nope I started "Dry-Heaving" until she satisfied herself I WOULDN'T Do it Again! And iof course, I'm not a new recruit anymore, I Knew Better, but Children IT JUST ISN'T WORTH THE 💔ACHE,AND SORROW! Do as I SAY, not as I DID!

I'm a little over 3 mths and lately I have had a few days where I can't stop eating. I tell myself no and next thing I know it's in my hand. I ate my first candy bar. A Snickers. About 30 minutes ago. I feel sick to my stomach. I have rejected only a few things. Candy bars aren't a habit I'd get back into but even once in a while isn't worth this feeling. On those days I can't stop eating I don't know what to do. It's funny, too, because I seem to even have more room in my stomach. It's maddening.
