[emoji28][emoji23]. I usually only smoke at night after a dinner, and relaxes me for the evening.

ace090 got a reaction from Nay143 in Will I be able to train muay Thai after gastric sleeve surgery?
Hi everyone, I've always wanted to train muay Thai and learn the art of Muay Thai kick boxing. I've tried to train in the past, but due to my weight I was finding it hard to keep up with the class and had to always take a break and go stand outside to recover my breathe and cool down, anyway long story short I got discouraged and stopped.
Now here's what I want to know. Once I start to lose a significant amount of weight and get my cardio health up, would I be able to train muay Thai again? Or am I asking for trouble in wanting to go down that route?

I'm a weekend user of a THC spray, not smoking. I find that since my sleeve no more munchies.

After surgery and healing sometime and shedding a tonne of fat, Is it possible to get into heavy lifting and body building. Would I be able to create huge muscles? Or is that a dream

Most of us will say we only wish that we had done this surgery sooner. A year ago at this time I could not have imagined doing this. It had a nasty stigma attached to it and a feeling of failure. I met with a regular dietician at the same time as my bariatric consultation. I knew I needed help as I never felt satisfied. I am only 2.5 months out but the restriction you get is really everything it is advertised to be. I had major problems with Portion Control but now I get that physical reminder and there is just no need to keep going after that.
I wish I did this sooner I just didnt want to admit that I needed help. This community has been very helpful during my journey.

I told myself that for years (that I can do it on my own with diet and exercise). Every time, I'd lose 40-50-60 lbs just to gain it back - and start the cycle over again. This went on for decades. I finally realized that no, I couldn't do it on my own. I'd tried and tried and it just didn't work. So I finally went through with the surgery. I've lost over 200 lbs and have been maintaining ever since. No way could I have done this on my own. I'd have this surgery again in a heartbeat!

I had these same doubts. It's natural to be wary. ((hugs))
From day 1 I've had no problems meeting my individual Protein goals. I can eat anything I feel like eating. Anything...including dry, dense, Proteins. YMMV. We are all different.
    But a couple of things:
    1. The challenge for most of us isn't in what we CAN'T eat or enjoy any longer. The challenge is actually to make healthy choices over our old food loves/addictions.
    2. Because I've really focused on rebuilding the types of food I eat, I now have a new gut biome and my cravings are quite different now. I now actively CRAVE healthy food and prefer eating fish (salmon, cod, and white fish, shrimp) and chicken breast and ground turkey over beef. I could have never predicted that since I used to adore beef! Go figure.

You will find that as you are successful losing weight that your priorities and focus might change.

Most of us have had very few, if any complications. Stay the course. Do your research on your doctor's experience and on the hospital where you will have surgery. If you feel confident in them, then proceed. If not, then find a new doc/team/hospital. This surgery has about the same complication risk of gall bladder surgery. Most are done minimally invasive so it further reduces risk.
Seriously the easiest surgery I've ever had. I've no regrets and feel fantastic at 17 months out. I'm 4lbs from my Goal #3 of 130lbs and love my new life. My only TRUE regret is not doing this sooner. I wasted so much of my life being sick, MO, and exhausted/pain.
Hang in there! Remember to breathe.

complications are not common. They may seem to that way because people who have them sometimes "talk" about them on the internet - they're looking for advice or support. On the other hand, people without complications don't broadcast that fact ("hey all - I'm three years out and have had NO complications!"). So you - and others -- are probably getting a skewed perception of how common they are. They really aren't.

that said - I had two strictures - one at four weeks out and one at eight weeks out. Strictures are probably the most common RNY complication - and they happen to about 5% of patients (so..not very common). They're also minor and a very easy fix.
Just keep on top of your supplements and follow your plan, and your risk will be pretty low.

This last week I've been struggling with the idea to go through with the surgery, thinking if I shouldn't go through with it and try push myself harder to just diet and go gym.
I want to lose the weight but I don't want to end up looking skinny fat and not be able to consume enough Proteins a day to gain any real muscle mass.
My only problem is I can't seem to go gym long enough to make as difference. Always battling myself mentally

You totally should be able to! I am looking into taking Krav Maga classes if I can figure out how to work it into my already packed exercise schedule.

It shouldn't be a problem. I was training in Wing Tsun. I stopped for surgery, and my doctor said I was fine to go back after about 6 weeks, or whatever my pain levels were. I'm going back next week.

I'm sure you will find it so much easier once you lose weight 😊 I was impatient to get back to training but looking back, it was probably 4 months post surgery before I felt like I could go hard, before that I walked, did lighter stuff etc. After that I just felt better and better. You will work out what you need to eat to train, and there are some awesome knowledgeable peeps on this site.

You should be able to. I was never really able to run before at a higher BMI but now at a lower BMI my endurance has skyrocketed.

Mauy Thai? I thought you meant Mai Tai! 🍹
