  1. I’m almost to my 2 year anniversary (in a few days) and I feel like I’m out of control with my eating. Life/work stress isn’t helping and I’m at a loss as to how to correct myself. Has anyone else felt like this? How did you get “back on plan”? any thoughts would be appreciated.
  2. 8 weeks and I felt “normal”. My energy was back to pre-op levels and I felt I was ready to go back to the gym. Take it slow! Several times I came home and had to take a nap. I’m feeling better now that I’m eating real food again. Somehow those protein shakes didn’t give me enough energy to do much without getting tired quickly.

    What's my first step

Schedule with a surgeon. They will run all the same blood tests, etc that a PCP will. I was in the same boat with no insurance coverage for my surgery. It may be a long process..get scheduled for a consultation so you know what lies ahead. Good Luck!
  4. For me too! I’ve managed to kick start it again by weighing in only once a week, getting all my fluids, and adding exercise along with following my food plan. Its difficult for me because I travel for work and sometimes my body doesn’t want to cooperate, but Hanging on to this for dear life and hope the scale starts moving again soon. We can be frustrated together but we can never give up.
  5. Only you can make this life changing decision. And it looks like you have a few examples of how this is a tool and your daily decisions will affect how it works. I questioned myself about making such a permanent change but am so glad I did. You’ve worked so hard and have overcome so many obstacles to get where you are..don’t quit on yourself now.

    Preop appointment????

Mine included all of the information given by other above. We also confirmed what surgery I would be having, my current weight and how to continue on my pre-op diet successfully. This is the time to get all of your surgery questions asked and answered. Nothing is off limits—this is your body and your new life. Don’t be shy..if you’re wondering about something, speak up. Good Luck!
  8. I put lotion on my incisions with no problems. If you’re still questioning it, start with something like Neosporin or hydrocortisone cream.

    I am new here

You’re on your way!! Welcome. I’ve found all of the boards/posts to be very informative and most importantly non-judgemental.

    Threw it away

Yay you! sometimes it’s the little victories that will make your day.
  11. I agree with catwoman7. I feel no obligation to explain myself, but if pushed will just say I’m eating better and exercising.

    Diet control

I rid my house of all the “bad” foods prior to me starting my pre-op phase. Out of sight, out of mind is how my brain works. While it didn’t stop all of the cravings, at least I couldn’t eat those cravings. Having a protein shake helps make me full and kicks those cravings in the butt. I also procrastinate about walking, but have found ways to get my steps in during the day. 3 short walks, taking the stairs, parking as far from the door as I can, etc. I find I’m enjoying being unplugged for a bit of time during my day and I’m doing something good for myself at the same time. Diet and exercise are the keys to your “tool”..without them any type of surgery won’t work for the long term. Good Luck! You deserve to be healthy.

    What have I done?

I’m laughing at this because I saw the ads too and thought: Hell no, I’ll die. I’m SO proud of you for trying something new. You CAN do it!!

    Preop diet sickness

Part of it is your body detoxing itself from all the “wrong” foods and to give you the best prep for your journey. I felt awful too during that time. DO try to drink a lot of fluids to flush your system. I found that I was dehydrated and it added to my groggy state and brain fog. Good Luck!

    Stomach sleeper

I’m a side/tummy sleeper too. About 8 days out I could do both without much discomfort. I did try it a fee days earlier and found with a pillow supporting my torso/tummy on my left side I wasn’t in pain.

    Black pepper

I was told to avoid spicy foods..but black pepper to me isn’t spicy. I use it on everything soup and purée related and haven’t had a problem. I think the reasoning is that they don’t want anything to irritate your new stomach or get stuck in a healing suture line. 🤷‍♀️

    Grisly Tummy

Mine did the same right after surgery—even with liquids. Now that I’m on soft foods it still happens. 🤦‍♀️ Just something we have to deal with. I take chewable gas-x tablets if I have a meeting after lunch. Lol.

no one cared when i was fat

😢 I’m sorry for all you’ve gone through. For all the years I’ve spent overweight I wondered the same things about why no one voiced a caring opinion. Maybe they thought it was none of their business? I’ve been to my doctor and have left in tears when I was warned about health risks resulting from being overweight. I left and said some terrible things to myself and then ate to feel better thinking I was too far gone. That being said..I literally just woke up one day and decided that I needed to fix this for me. You know as well as I do that this journey isn’t easy and relying on others to assist sometimes doesn’t work the way we think it should. But you have the strength within you to overcome obstacles of your past and present to live your best life. Some days will be tougher than others..when that happens reach out. Loving the “old” us as a step to the “new” us is hard. Best wishes.

    Minimal weight loss

Could be a number of things..are you following your program? Having any complications? New medications or added back and you were taking prior to surgery? Logging all your meals? Some people experience a stall every now and then..it could just be a fluke. Sorry I can’t give you an answer but hopefully in reviewing the questions above you maybe able to figure it out. Best wishes.

    Am I dehydrated ?

Vitamin water zero, Gatorade zero, some types of regular bottled water, Propel Fitness water. Be sure to check the labels for sugar content as some are lower than others.
  22. Donated the clothes to various places. My surgeons support group has a clothing swap every few months during meetings.

    Foods that make you dump

Currently anything that is too acidic..like tomato soup or roasted red pepper soup. It’s a shame because those are my favorites. My Doctor says it’s just a reaction with my healing stomach but shouldn’t last forever.
