My surgery was covered 100% by my insurance. The surgery cost my insurance just under $25000 . They tend to over bill because they know they are only allowed a certain amount but $350000 seems ludicrous

Mine was $42,000 before discounts, $12,000 in discounts. I had a 2 night stay. My surgeon and anesthesiologist fees were separate ($5,000 & $3,000 each)

My insurance company was billed roughly $50,000 for the surgeon's fee, anesthesia, and hospital, but they only paid a portion of that.

Wow. I’m going in August 29. No idea on cost but I hope it’s closer to the $20,000 area.

    Mine billed $104,00.00
    I paid $250.00
They never pay what is billed out.
But, 350k seems a little crazy!

Sometimes they bill the insurance company like that knowing that the insurance company is going to cut it down to their allowable costs

Use almond milk instead of regular milk, it will save you like 65 to 70 calories off of that 100. Plus you get a nice "nutty" flavor in the aftertaste that is actually quite good.

Internal: I have listened to positive motivational podcasts, self-help books that I love. Trying to embrace this is a permanent lifestyle, eating, drinking, exercise change. At times I worry I'll eat the same types of food over and over. Then I look at Pinterest, cooking books and know I will still have fun cooking, eating, and being with family at meals. Just anxious about what work will be like with eating between patients. (I work at a prison.) I am 5 weeks out and have lost 54 pounds and am off medication (Blood pressure, diabetes) So, still EXCITED. My goal is to lose 120 pounds and keep it off for life!

Hello Valerie - my surgeon did not suggest this but I also do not know how much was bypassed originally so this may not have been needed in my case. I went to a revision specialist so I think had he suggested I may have asked for research (I still did this with my current surgery) and then discuss with the surgeon, my Primary and my family. I am still only a week out but I am so happy . For me, the recovery is so much easier second time around.

Hello Everyone - I am one-week post-op today, and I am now only 2 pounds lighter than I was last week. That is ok with me, and I am so happy I had the "tune-up" surgery. I do need to wear an abdominal binder getting on and out of bed. I return to work this week and zero pain. I am hopeful and positive that the weight will continue to come off. During my Pre-Op liquid diet, I shed 25 lbs, so I am feeling good about that. I have broken my weight goals into 35-pound goals. I am 27 pounds from target 1.

a lot of people don't lose much the first few days after surgery - reason being is they pump you full of IV fluids at the hospital. Not only is it a ton of Fluid, but those IV fluids contain sodium to boot, so if you're salt sensitive, you'll retain it for a few days. You should see a drop-off after the first week, though. It takes a couple of days to work the fluids out of your system - more if you're sodium-sensitive.

Well, I am July 31 - RNY and Pouch revision or "tune up", as I like to call it. I was worried that I would be too late for the July group, so I was also going to follow with the August group. My pre op appointment is July 29th where the Internist will review my test results before giving the final go-ahead for the 31st. I am doing well on the pre-op diet, and have lost about 10 pounds in the past month total. My tests show a fatty liver so I am really following the protocol closely.
So if it is not too late, Please include me. I have met all the requirements for surgery already, in terms of test results so I am pretty sure it will be a go ahead.
I really would like to be involved in the post surgery followup, to see how you are all doing!

Hi, I’m one week into my pre op liquid diet and I’m already down 9lbs. Three Protein Shakes a day and lots and lots of Water. The liquid diet is not as bad as I feared, I think staying super busy house shopping has helped. I haven’t had the time to miss food, lol. My surgery is July 31st. I cannot wait, I’m nervous yet very excited!!! So many new things in store for me 💕

Sounds like maybe the surgeon intends to do a duodenal switch or something similar. I attended a WLS seminar and they said that's what the their surgeon usually uses for revision. I have my consult on August 21st but if that's what they suggest I'll go with it.
