Jdymitc got a reaction from BeanitoDiego in Trouble with malnutrition
I had issues similar to yours where I started with a sleeve in 7/2020 my body started going through severe issues that I couldn’t even hold down a sip of Water causing me to vomit uncontrollably in the end of 8/2020 I went to use my restroom and I collapsed. My surgical team had me enter a rehab to try and help me build up my strength and put in a PICC line. I was in the rehab for 6 weeks and the team started to work with my insurance and got permission for a revision to a bypass.(my brain started to have issues with retaining short term memories due to lack of nutrition) Had the revision to bypass done in 3/2021 My body took forever to start to regulate and start to work the way it is supposed to. I pushed myself to do as much work with my brain to get back to “normal “ as much as possible and I’d say I am about 90% recovered. Physically I’m back to “normal” most days occasionally I’ll still have a nauseous day or some dumping but I was just at my dr last week and I am down just shy of 200lbs
stay strong you will get through this
Family members ask me if I could rewind time if I’d still go through with the surgery and I say I may have opted for the bypass instead of the sleeve but absolutely because if I didn’t get that weight off I know without a doubt I’d be dead within a few years so even with all these issues the surgery was worth it.

Thank you everyone for your encouragement and kind words. I’m not sure why it hit me so hard. I mean I can look down at my body and still see I have fat on my frame. I didn’t start this journey to hit a certain number on the scale. It always was to get healthy And to be alive cause I knew in my head I probably wouldn’t make the age of 50 going the way I was going and now I know that I have a much better chance of being alive for the future. I am still overweight per the charts I am finding online but not technically obese. I will discuss it with my dr the next visit. I allowed myself this weekend to mope a bit but did not allow myself to fall into old habits of comforting myself with junk food. I vented here and then took an exercise class in my home to get my self in a better place. My husband and daughter both noticed something was bothering me but that I wasn’t using my old methods of comforting myself and gave words of encouragement. I still am a bit bitter seeing the word but have decided not to let that defeat me or define me. I am still me and the new me isn’t controlled by a five letter word. I will be the best me I can be and that me rocks!

Please bear with me while I ramble and get something off my chest. I started this journey with a gastric sleeve surgery July 2019 things went bad quickly I was vommitting uncontrollably and very rapid weight loss I started losing my mind and had little to no muscle control by September. After a severe fall I was put into a rehab hospital and they decided to change the sleeve to a bypass. The revision was done 2/2020. After the revision I was discharged to my home. I’ve started regaining memories and muscle control. By June 2020 I was able to walk independently (with a walker for balance) by September I was able to forgo the walker unless it was long distances. Even with this crazy pandemic I’ve been pretty upbeat and happy I am literally half the size I was when I started this weight loss journey. Yesterday I went to my obgyn appointment they were complimentary and saying how I don’t even look like the same person. Then I got my after office report. I always read over them in case there is something I forgot or missed. The first line goes this is an obese female.... damn I’ve seen that word with ever dr appointment for more than 30 years but it has never bothered me like it is this time. I mean I’m literally half the person I was before and almost died to get to where I am now what else do I have to do to get rid of that word?

Jdymitc got a reaction from bajankat in Revision due to Reflux and scared!!
I had a sleeve done in July 2019 couldn’t keep anything down due to newly developed gerd (never had an issue prior). Lost so much weight in the first 3 months (100+ lbs). Had to have a pic line put in to get my nutrition levels up to where it was safe to operate on me again). Had a revision to gastric bypass in February 2020. Since then I’ve had 3 instances of vomiting but the first was what I assume was leftover acid because that happened still in hospital after revision. The second and 3rd times were my own fault drinking to quickly after eating. I also had a hernia repair at the time of my revision. I originally wanted the bypass but my team talked me into doing the sleeve as my insurance requirements were easier to get approved with the sleeve. I will say I am very thankful I had the revision done and am feeling much happier and healthier now in the 13 months since my original surgery I’ve gone from 350+ to 175 and from 4x pants to a pair of large today. I worried after the horrible outcome from the original surgery that I might be making a mistake having the revision but today am very happy I did.

Is the ban on having a drink with your meal a lifetime commitment or at some point is it okay to start having drinks with your food again? If so when?

I am sorry I forgot to include that in my answer. Yes I can eat and drink normally now. I actually went to a tasting for my daughters wedding last week which I know even 6 months ago would have never been able to happen. I know it’s hard to imagine while you are going through it but it can get better. I’ll keep you in my thoughts and yes let me know what your team says.

I had a sleeve surgery in July 2019 and within the first two weeks it felt like I had a piece of hamburger stuck in my throat and could not get it cleared. It stayed that way for months. I ended up with additional issues that caused me to have a revision from a sleeve to a gastric bypass in February of 2020. (I am not saying you need to have anything changed just explaining my journey). In the process to having the revision my dr did a scope of my throat and almost immediately after that the closed up feeling of my throat and “stuck” food feeling went away and has not bothered me again. I would strongly suggest you speak to your team and explain what you are going through. I can Not emphasize enough the importance of getting your nutrition in and know how difficult that is going to be if you can’t swallow.

I started with a gastric sleeve surgery done in July 2019 weighing just shy of 350lbs. I had a lot of issues and tough recovery and it required a revision to a gastric bypass at the end of February 2020. I do not own a scale in my home as I would obsess over the number and with the whole Covid situation I was not going to in person dr appointments but today finally I was able to go and I weighed in at 187lbs!!!! That number seems crazy to me. I was over 200 at the age of 12 and I’m now 46. I want to laugh and cry at the same time. This last year was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever been through and I am not back to being 100% healthy yet but I am so excited to finally be under the 200lb mark.

Jdymitc got a reaction from HipHopDiva in vomiting/dry heaving excessively
I was sleeved on 7/15. Not had any real difficulty before now. Only vommited once since surgery. However on Sunday I started feeling very nauseous and vomiting. I thought okay maybe I ate something I shouldn’t have (but couldn’t think of anything that would have caused it). Each day this week I’ve been experiencing the same thing but getting progressively worse. I called my team because a lot of what was coming up was stomach acid/bile and the prescribed pantoprazole. I’ve been taking it and while the stomach acid isn’t coming up anymore now I am dry heaving. This is t once or twice a day I mean it has happened at least 10xs so far today. I’m waiting on a call back from my team again but has anyone experienced anything like this?

I was sleeved on 7/15 and am at a soft food stage but have mainly been sticking to liquids. The last three days it feels like there are little pieces of food that are in my throat. It doesn’t matter if I drink, swallow, brush my teeth, gargle it won’t go away. Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions to get rid of it. It’s driving me nuts.

Had my sleeve done Monday only was supposed to stay one night blood pressure shot way high couldn’t get it under control 205/108. Kept me an additional day. Discharged with a blood pressure of 180/95. Pain was a 3 out of ten by Tuesday. At home Thursday blood sugar (prediabetic) kept dipping. Called my practice they told me to sip some juice and scheduled me to come in today Juice cleared up blood sugar issues. Blood pressure today was still high so starting some blood pressure meds till I get more weight off. Weighing in today was down 13lb from surgery day. Still having issues remembering to sip not gulp and not getting 60 Protein but Water I am good with. Walking not a problem except for the heat. Moved on to full liquid with surgeons blessing.
