  1. Congrats!
303nursemom reacted to New&Improved in # 8 months post OP - maintaining well - below goal - happy
hello there just doing my monthly check in for those who are interested.
So it's officially 8 months since I had my RNY BYPASS surgery.
    My journey has been good.
Started high weight of 322lbs and I've been in maintenance now 2 months.
I sit consistently around 165LBS most days but my lowest recent weight was 163lbs.
I have definitely been enjoying alot more variety in my diet since maintenance began and I can tolerate most foods but still use shakes if needed.
I am now consuming around 1500kcal most days even a few treats here and there without any side effects or weight gain.
I'm feeling amazing and looking good.
I'll be 36 in about 5 weeks but feel healthier than I have in 20 years!!!
I am glad I did the right research and chose the BYPASS as my first and only surgery and I'm amazed how well I've done.
never ever expected to lose 100% EBW but I've done it and my surgeon says I'm an anomaly only about 5% of his patients ever lose that much 😊
I know it's only early days and things might change in regards to malabsorption of calories and such but I'll be sure to keep an eye on my weight for the long term.
I just want everyone to see it is possible to be successful and reach all your goals.
you just have to be 150% focused on your goals from day 1.
Thank you all and I'll appreciate any comments.
    Mike

Oh my, I never in my dreams would have thought I would say that I have officially lost ONE HUNDRED POUNDS! But today, that is exactly what I have done!
Starting weight 226.8. Today's weight 126.8, and I feel great! Solidly in a size 4. Love wearing tight fitting clothes and DRESSES! I haven't loved wearing dresses since I was in HS (despite the fact that I weighed under 135 until I was 23). Still need to lose some "calf" and still need to flatten my belly and tone my upper arms. But I love this weight. Wondering if I will be able to stay here, or will I put on the infamous 10 pounds.
Only negative is my husband actually told me I look "sickly" a couple weeks ago. I never thought I went through that phase. Then this week he commented I look "skeletal". And I KNOW I don't. I have even asked a friend to be honest and tell me if I do look sickly or skeletal at all (since I am obviously not impartial). She says I look great, which made me feel better. When I let my husband know that his comments upset me, he does backpedal... but I cannot unhear those words. I really think he doesn't mean to be hurtful, but he does say things like that without thinking and it does hurt.
Anyway... I officially stopped trying to lose weight a couple months ago. I hit my goal back in April and was happy there. It surprises me when I do drop pounds again. I guess I need to up my calories some more. I don't totally follow my diet anymore. I do eat limited sweets to satisfy cravings. But outside of that, I am not eating "bad". I haven't had anything to drink since July other than Water, Vitamin water zero, and occasional gatorade zero or Decaf and unsweetened herbal teas. I don't count my calories (have always been bad at that), but I do eat small portions and not too frequently. Most of the time I avoid any carbs. I mix my Protein source with veggies. I do best with my eating if the two are actually mixed together (for example, I cook ground beef with cabbage, onions, peppers, and tomatoes - my stomach loves things like that). I guess I just have to figure out what to add in, without developing bad habits again! When I DO add carbs, it is most often a little potato in whatever I cooked, or Beans (which is also protein so that one is usually pretty good). I "LOVE" pizza... so I do sometimes eat that, although most of the time I get one with a cauliflower crust. If I eat a real pizza, it has a very thin crust.

I am new here. I have never posted anything online before (no social media and no reviews etc) I am writing because I am nervous. My surgery date is July 7th. I have been thinking about having the surgery for years but finally went for a consult this month and everything has moved so fast! If anyone has suggestions on how to prep for the days after surgery please let me know! Thank you!

I am posting this in the hopes that it may help someone....
Onederland. I have read other people post about onederland for years now, and never thought it would one day be me. It just seemed so far out of reach. During my years of trying all different diet fads, I got close, but never hit the magic number (only to gain back everything, plus). Yesterday, was my first memory of ever seeing a 1 as the first digit on the scale.
Less than 8 months ago, I weighed 316 pounds, scared out of my mind about surgery, and wondering if I would even lose 100 pounds in the end. The road hasn’t always been easy, but the results are so worth it. For those on the fence (as I was for 5 years) I can tell you without hesitation that this was the right move for me. As so many people have said before, my only regret is not doing it sooner.

Cute kiddo! That’s so awesome you are taking this step to get fit and healthy. I too am waiting until August for my sleeve. I am looking at late August after my kids are back in school. I can’t wait to be able to be more active outdoors again! It’s gotten tough to do the things I love and be the mom I want to be.

I think your kids are young enough they won’t necessarily know you are doing anything different, unless you make a bid deal of it. I didn’t tell my 6 and 8 year olds I was having the surgery and honestly, they were both pretty oblivious to the fact I wasn’t eating the same way. After the first month I was able to start eating family meals again. So a relatively short period of time that you will have limited food choices. After you are cleared to advance your diet, focus on modeling healthy food choices and behaviors for your kids. I do exactly what catwoman7 recommended. I stick to Protein and produce, and they get an added carb in. I LOVE what you said about “emphasizing strength and soul over beauty and thinness”.
I also focus on words like healthy, strong, and fit, and avoid words like skinny, fat, diet, and weight loss.

I also only told my spouse, parents, and a few close friends. I’ve heard through the grapevine that some of my coworkers have speculated that I got a lap band (I was actually sleeved), but no one has flat out asked me to my face. Other neighbors/friends have commented on my weight loss, but haven’t questioned it. They do know I am seeing a personal trainer, so they see I am working out hard and watching what I eat. I think at this point I would be comfortable discussing it with a coworker/neighbor/friend if they brought it up to me. What I didn’t want was to hear all the opinions and judgement before hand. It’s a very personal decision and nobody’s business but your own.

I started Pilates 6 months prior to my surgery (Sleeved August 2019) and it has really helped decrease my back pain and strengthen my core! I love it! It’s great that it’s low impact but still so tough and such a muscle builder. Indirectly I think it has helped me with weight loss since improving my core strength and decreasing my back pain allows me to work out harder without aggravating the pain. I run, hike, and cross country ski again, which I wasn’t able to do this time last year. I only do Pilates once a week right now, and my trainer recommends at least twice a week for better results, but there is only so much time (and money).........

I wanted to find a pilates thread but they were all old.
I did Pilates for the first time as recommended by my doctor for my back. For the first five minutes, I was like, this is so easy! How am I going to get a workout doing this? After the class, I was so out of it I got lost driving home. I was a mile from my house.
So... for those who do pilates, how often do you go? Do you think it has contributed to weight loss? My back feels nice and stretched out now. We'll see if I can walk tomorrow.

Oh, congrats! That will be here so soon! I’m so excited for you! I have been working out with Geof. It is pricey, but I really needed to make that investment in myself. I’ve cut costs other ways since surgery (less food costs/not eating out, stopped buying Starbucks, No beer/wine, etc). I was too intimidated to try it on my own in a big box gym. Plus, I really needed that motivation. I won’t miss a session with him because I am paying good money, lol. It’s easier to skip out on a workout if I don’t have someone holding me accountable. Geof is knowledgeable about both weight training/exercise and weight loss surgery/nutrition. He seems to know when to push me and when my body needs a break. I plan to continue 2x week with him in January, then cut back to 1x week and start trying some strength training on my own now that I am feeling stronger and more confident (October was my first month working out with him).

I had surgery with Dr.Weaver at the same practice as Dr.Synder this past August and had a great experience. Dr.Synder has been around quite awhile and is well respected. It’s a pretty well organized program (minus some billing issues I am still dealing with, but no fault of the providers). Hilary, the nutritionist, is really kind and knowledgeable. Elaine, the NP you follow after surgery, is also great. Rose provided top notch care too. I had a one night stay and fairly easy recovery. You’ll be in good hands with their program!

Hi all! August 27th post sleeve here. I love reading everyone’s updates and can relate to many of the successes and challenges. I have lost about 50 lbs since surgery and my BMI has dropped from 36 to 28. Even better, I exercise consistently and feel strong and more energetic! The reason I decided to post today is because I slipped up for the first time and ate more than I should have in a sitting. I paid for it by getting sick and vomiting almost immediately. I am pretty disappointed in myself, but trying to get past it and move forward. I still have so many goals, I need to stay on track!
