Does anyone who is pre-op or post-op watch YouTube channels that talk about WLS? During my research, I have watched a few people's channels, and they have been very informative for a person like me who is in the very beginning stages of WLS. If anyone has some YouTube channels they watch, please feel free to share.
    Just passing along the information....

WOW! I can't believe it's been 3 years since my Gastric Sleeve surgery! It feels like I had it yesterday.
I started out at 470 and I've pretty much maintained at 215 pounds for the bulk of this year. If anyone is on the fence about having this surgery, let me tell you, it's life changing.
I am so happy I did it. Not only is my health great, I've gotten very fit and am more active now than I have been in years.

NancyLF reacted to Blueorchid in My mess of a week/ 3 surgeries in one!
I know many of you were following my story after Cigna denied me twice and finally after peer review surgery was set for Monday, November 18th.

However because my case was already challenging, why not throw a bit more into it right?!

I started throwing up and having diarrhea/ stomach and chest pain Monday the 11th. I have been having trouble on and off since I had the fundoplication takedown, hernia repair, and my LINX device installed. This went on until Wednesday morning at 6am and had to be rushed to the hospital. It was there they determined after lots of tests that my wbc count was through the roof, I had heightened liver enzymes and an enlarged liver, blood in my urine, and the flow from the bottom of my gall bladder had stopped working. I have immediately admitted for surgery.

When I asked how this would play into my sleeve surgery, they said theoretically they could do the gall bladder Thursday and then turn around Monday and sleeve me if I felt okay.

I asked him if we could get it all over with at one time so I didn’t have to go through it again and after speaking with insurance they all agreed this would happen. So on Thursday I went in for a triple surgery- gall bladder removal, gastric sleeve, and LINX adjustment.

Let me start by saying I am so grateful that it’s done. I’m supposed to be discharged later today (Saturday) so my stay here has def been longer.

However during surgery, they didn’t give me enough sedative and I WOKE UP PARALYZED but could feel! I just couldn’t move. Had they done the gall bladder and waited on the sleeve I would have never gone back into surgery. I will say coming out of the surgery and that first night was awful. I heaved, I was in the most intense pain (keep in mind 3 surgeries), and I just didn’t think I was going to make it.

I have been cruising right a long though. Increasing my walking here at the hospital, moving gas, drinking shakes and Water with no problem and chicken broth never tasted so good. I am and have been ready for this step in my life and although this has been a rough way to get it done, I am ready to fight for my life and health.

So just keep pushing on. If you take away anything from this mess it is that you got into this because change was NECESSARY, you have been putting in the work, and now it is on you to maintain the lifestyle.

I'm now 15 months out from VSG and down 107 lbs. When I started I had so many questions, concerns, worries, and doubt. Now I absolutely love life and the new me.
I thought it might be helpful to come back here and offer the ability to answer questions people have. So ask me absolutely anything and I'll give you an answer. Just hoping to make the pre and post surgery journeys a bit less stressful for others.

Awesome to hear!! I also watch a lot of videos and do a lot of research. I feel that the more knowledgeable I am about the surgery, the more I feel comfortable with my decision!

Thank you for posting this. I soooo hear you! Ive been sitting in very much the same boat. Even though Ive lost somewhere over 100 lbs since January, I still have 50 to go. I look down at my normal size L jogging pants and am happily shocked every time I can see that I definitely have two legs now. Not to mention a colleague (at my new job which only knows me after my journey started) said that I dont look overweight. (I too am rather tall at 6 foot, so I "carry it well", but heavy is heavy.) However, I can still go buy a security monitor in a store and still only see a fat person. Our minds play tricks on us, and we have to get the "adult" in there to win the fight and let the kid "play" enough to let us not get overwhelmed by the journey.

I was told to wait until all my surgical glue and scabs came off before swimming. That took about four weeks, as I recall.

My favorite is Protein 20 Water. I especially like the Grape flavor. I usually get it at my local Rite-Aid. I have also spotted it in Walgreen's and some CVS stores. My cousin spotted it in costco. There's also Amazon, of course,
I find it MUCH easier to drink than other protein drinks/shakes.

Hi everyone. I’m 4 days post op, home from hospital and venturing into this new world with a mixture of apprehension and excitement.
If anyone is wondering why I’ve chosen to join in the chat with people so far from home I honestly don’t have any one particular reason I lurked around a few sites and felt drawn to here primarily because it has a nice feeling; one of mutual respect, and a big dollop of honesty.
I feel like I’m in a bit of a surreal world right now as I mourn the loss of my best friend, food, and Celebrate the demise of my mortal enemy, food. Maybe demise isn’t the best terminology to use as I still face its ever present place in my life. For now I’m taking each day as it comes, and as it’s very early days I’m prepared not to take my emotional thoughts too seriously, assuming my judgement is fairly impaired at this time. If truth be told I hover between being “fine” and being pretty tearful. So far no regrets however, so I see that as a positive.
I was wondering how quickly I could start to take on some light to moderate exercise. I’d quite like to go for a gentle swim but not sure when would be appropriate. I don’t want to expose myself to infection, or find myself totally exhausted by the walk to my local swimming pool (about half a mile).
My second question is on people’s experiences of how long they needed to take off work. I’m automatically signed off for two weeks, but wondering if the realty is different.
Anyway hello again from me. Apologies in advance if any of my questions appear on the naive side 😊
