I HATE I GOT THIS STUPID SURGERY!

Wow u poor thing most programs are at least 6months prep pre-op. My rule is if protein isn't the highest out of protein, sugar, fat you can't have it. Protein first, fat under 5, sugars under 5. I lived on protein shakes, eggs, protein water until I was feeling stronger. I had never felt so weak and exhausted all the time. Around 8 -10 weeks you start feeling normal again. Shame on your program not mentally preparing you. Find a support group in your area, they are everywhere. Plus there is always here.
  2. May 24th surgery....highest 216, day of survey 202....simply my rule is the highest number of all 3 has to be protein or I don't eat it. Keep sugars under 2 keep fat under 5 So then Protein has to be 6 or more..... So at present I am 5 months 1 week out and my height is 149 today. I have to be honest I am poor at the exercise because I am exhausted all the time between kids their activities and working. Good luck and your body will do the work you just have to follow your plan no cheating. Not to say it isn't tough. One day I put the kids Doritos on their plates just so I could lick my fingers. A pathetic moment but sooooo good

24 hours to go I cannot wait!!!

Good luck...fingers cross for a easy quick recovery
  5. I would do this surgery again in a minute. That being said I had a few complications and I was basically on full liquids to watery softs for 2.5 months post-op. I was exhausted all the time, I can't imagine doing any vacation other than a relaxing one. Just working, kids, life in general I think I am asleep before my head hits the pillow. Now at almost 5 months out I am so much stronger with more energy. Give yourself time

    Need Some Help!

Fastest fix but it is disgusting....With such a sensitive stomach/pouch everything can cause gastric upset and cramping...accept Light mineral oil. You do 3 big gulps every hour until you poop mineral oil about 5 hours later. It's like a oil slide for the constipated stool and everything just goes right through without any cramping. I have been doing this for over 35 years I don't send flowers to my friends having surgery I drop off a bottle of mineral oil. Anesthesia, pain management, decreased mobility all cause constipation. But for you add in ABD surgery/ decreased food and fluid intake / rapid weight loss. Your poor body is still going through a lot. Yes an enema will work but you have 28 feet in intestines with a small alteration, the enema only does the very end you need to get everything moving along the rest of 24 feet. Again wiping after is disgusting because of the oil but every effective.....sorry for the graphics everyone.

    I don't like my Bariatric Team :S

I will tell you what I tell my kids....You are responsible for how you allow people to treat you...you can't stop their words or attitude but how you respond and how you let it effect you you can control. When people are on a power high, because be honest they have all the control at this point in time, they can be horrible. So kill them with kindness..... Thank you so much I will try that, Im so glad you suggested that I would have never thought of that, do you have anymore suggestions so far they have all be so helpful, so now you get the idea of what to say. People are only bullish to get control, so just give it to them why fight it. They are just a snapshot in this weight loss journey. Once it's over you have all the power and in the end it's your discussions. Deep breath dry those tears and enjoy your vacation !!!!

    You look different?

Congrats you look great. Come on you would never just ask a person.... Did you lose weight?. It's their way of opening the conversation up. At least that's nice. I'm getting are you okay, your not sick are you?. Lose the equalivant of a middle schooler and people assume you are sick...
  12. In hospital ...Preop was fine, recovery room I really don't remember much. Then just walk walk walk once your alert enough. At home I took half a pain pill 4 times, then to Tylenol. Yes your sore but the pain MED made me to sleepy and nauseated. My issue was nausea and reflux on omeprazole twice a day and zantac at bedtime. It's a full-time job getting fluids in, protein premier, protein premeir water count as fluid and protein. By ice cube trays, make soup in them, jello, etc. Set a goal for yourself one ice cube section every 30minutes to an hour. Every few hours just take a few cubes out so they can be defrosting. I am still very restricted and still don't met my protein goal daily I am around 50gm the best I've done is 60gsm in one day. Exhaustion is the worse of it all. Everything is an effort after an hour. Your only eating 300 to 500 calories a day at first . So cleaning the kitchen and a few loads of laundry , running around with kids uses that up. Go slow, stop if your tired and have some protein and drink your fluids. Enjoy the experience. I am out 4.5 months the first 3 months don't really count because I was mostly still on full liquids and watery softs because of the nausea. So I'm learning more now about meal choices. I love love love pan seared scallops and they are little balls of protein. I realize I am not the average post op experience but I am 10lbs to goal and I really feel good. Even with the complications I would do it again without hesitation.

    3 Years

I would send you private message but I can't figure out how. So I apologize discussing this openly. I'm not trying to be bossy but I was mis managed with this for a year. Once I went to a 2nd opinion with a gastrointestinal cancer specialist he told me the only one to manage IPMN is a Liver/Pancreatic specialist. So I found one of the top specialist for Liver transplants and have been with him last 12 years. With IPMN he laid out his treatment plan; they need to do biopsy on the fluid to make sure it's not pre cancerous, they also have a blood test CEA-19 which is specifically for pancreatic cancer. Then a MRI to monitor changes in shape and size yearly. You have worked so hard to get healthily, Just asked your GI about these testS the CEA 19 is just a blood test, you many have already had it. Good Luck

    3 Years

Hey I have IPMN also, but I do a MRI every year to measure cysts. I have 3 on my Pancreas for over 12 years that need to be monitored. I have only had to be put out twice for EUS and biopsies. Wonder why the difference you have to be put out for tests yearly
  15. I started 80lbs over weight now at 4.75 months down 67 lbs...13lbs to normal BMI my personal goal. Probably not the average I had a few complication the first 2months. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Good luck
  16. Just be careful with low WBC your body isn't ready to fight off a major illness. Anyone looks sick around you step back. Low iron it's okay to feel tired but any chest pain or shortness of breath go to the Dr.s.. It's the full panels you look for LFTs, Bun, Creat, hgb, hct..They all balance and certain ones paired together mean certain things. So just see what they say. With the white count your body may have been fighting something you didn't realize you had, they will just do a recheck in 3months

    Favorite non scale victory

My 80year old aunt at a wedding asking me if I was okay. She said she has never seen me so thin. In total 63lbs in 4.5 months I had a tough first 2 months post open. I am under 20lbs to get to Normal at BMI wt range. Love this decision.....
  18. This is not an easy journey you still have to do the right foods, exercise , and make proper choices. You should join a support group to keep you positive. Family is family if they have been doing this for years it's gonna take time for them to change. You just don't have to tolerate it. Your stronger and realizing their words are hurtful. Just say to them when they start being negative you are going to leave or hang up. You are changing your life to be better not to keep getting knocked down. After the 100th time maybe they will realize they are not being nice. Sorry for all the stress......

    MY SURGERY UPDATES

    Yay you that's commitment
  21. I did the same thing. Finally found a combination of meds that helped and started back to post op day one. I take Omeprazole but open the capsule and swallow the granules. , the minute I get up. Then I do this again at 200pm. Then an hour before I go to bed I take Zantac 300mg. It took my surgeon, his staff, and multiple tests to come up with this plan. It was the worst 5.5 weeks of my life. I'm so sorry your going through this it's horrible. Good luck but just to stay hydrated fluids first is what they told me. After like 4 days I felt so much better. Now 4 months out and still not up to fluid or protein goals but I feel good. Baby steps just keep sipping small amounts constantly.
  22. As long as you are taking any pain management no driving. Also discomfort at seatbelt contact sites over incision sites. The way to look at it is, is your reaction time back to normal? If you were rear ended would the seatbelt split open the sutures when you jerked forward? You need to be walking walking walking to defer DVTs. Lastly no restriction on stairs but only activity or lifting could be done after cleared at 1month post-open appt. You gone feel weak for that few weeks anyway. If you only eating under 500 calories your body needs all that to heal. Good luck
  23. Every day and every meal can be different. Today it goes well and tomorrow I cant tolerate the same food. I was told no Hamburger/Pork/Steak for 6-8 months. They are to hard to digest. If I get the slime's back to full liquids for 24 hours. My rule is if there is no Protein in the food/water don't eat it. So far down 60lbs and it will be 4 months in 2 days. I can still barely handle 50-60gms of Protein a day and maybe 40oz of water, and that's with a lot of effort all day long. They still want me at 80gms of Protein but I just cant get that all in. Example a good day is; Decafe coffee( half strength with added hot water) with Protein Premier(1/2 bottle 15gms Protein) instead of milk. Then a yogurt for 15gms Protein. Then sipping on Protein water rest of Morning, Lunch I do 2-3 chicken meatballs or chicken Chilli with Cheese on top about 3-4 oz ( 10gms of protein). Sipping on Protein water rest of day. For Dinner 2-4 Scallops and a side of Zoodles for 3-4oz total ( 10gmsof Protein). Every Surgeon if different but honestly this slow progression has worked for me. The two times I vomited/slimed was all my fault. I didn't chew until the food was liquid in my mouth. the second I forgot and took a drink while eating. It amazing me what some people can tolerate at 3-4 weeks. I was told think of your stomach as a Newborn and treat it as well. Slow= easy= gentle. You wont give a newborn Hambuger or steak. Sorry for all the issues you guys have had to go through. BABY STEPS
  24. ED NURSE HERE...with food implications the spit builds up like a snow storm then you spit out frothy spit. Sips of fluids go down but come right back up...GO TO THE ER.....We give u glycogen IV it's a smooth muscle relaxation and usually the food implication will move. The pain is from the esophageal spasms around the food it is spasming around it to push it down. At the most u need a scope they put u to sleep and go down and grab it...Good Luck don't wait the night
