    Grilled cheese alternative?

I’m avoiding all bread products as long as possible but I think there’s some options for this. Cauliflower crust as bread? Or that no carb bread they sell on this site, might work for you. Google keto stuff they’ll be the ones wiith 15 ideas

    Grilled cheese alternative?

    PREACH IT djgirl19!!!!!
  4. When you go rogue with 100 calories of cottage cheese you gotta do it on the sly apparently. The liquids thing is soooo different by doctor too. Mine was anti jello & pudding during that phase, but totally okay with any soup you were willing to blend, so I could eat a higher calorie broccoli cheddar, but not 15 calories of jello. It was weird.
  5. Girl, I barely made it a week on liquids. But also, listen to your doctor blah blah. I have no idea why yours specifically would be asking for a month of liquids. That sounds insane to me & I can only imagine how frustrated you are especially when we all have completely different instructions. My pre-op was no carbs for a week & then one day of liquids. My post op was 2 weeks of liquids: protein shakes, soups, liquid yogurt. I nearly lost my mind & I was freaking hungry & annoyed. I think I added cottage cheese around day 9 or 10 but I keep that on the down low because I mentioned it once here & a bunch of people went nuts on me. I think the next stage was puree, but my doctor had like all soft foods in there. Like meatloaf was okay. Potatoes, refried beans. I am trying to stay away from carbs so I wasn't real interested in adding those in. I went pretty much from liquids to: yogurt, ground beef, ground chicken, eggs, cheese. I'm 3.5 weeks out & for the most part that's all I'm eating, in some variation. Oh and quiche. I'm eating a lot of quiche with eggs, cheese & veggies. Measured into 4oz servings. Everyone is going to tell you to follow the plan and talk to your doctor, which is wise advice. But also very frustrating knowing that if you'd gone to another doctor across town they may very well have another plan entirely. This entire thing is so confusing to me. I've not eaten one thing that's disagreed with me thus far. I'm being careful, and like I said I have a fairly basic list of items I'm eating but I keep waiting for some of these side effects I'm hearing about because I feel nothing. I tried salmon this weekend. It was fine. Tried cucumber. Fine. I force myself to stay to 4oz & count every calorie, gram of protein and ounce of water. I've not been sick at all. Drinking (water) is a total breeze.

    Tips for pre-op liquid diet

I used the Premier Protein ready made stuff. If you have a Costco, they sell the vanilla & chocolate by the case. IF you're a coffee drinker & IF you're allowed to have it - I've done a lot of Starbucks "hacks" to get me through. Two shots of espresso in a venti iced cup with ice. Then pour a premier protein shake on top & mix it up. Delicious. I've also added a tablespoon of Torani sugar free syrup to play with flavors & sweetness. Starbucks does have a couple sugar free syrup options as well. There's a powdered peanut butter that is not terrible. If you get a little bullet type blender & add a scoop & your protein shake & blend, that's a decent option. The powdered proteins are reallll trial & error. Both by brands & then just experimenting with them & how they'll dissolve for you. Look on YouTube too for videos about this! I found I was attempting to mix the powdered protein into my coffee all wrong. It would just curdle & was disgusting. If you put it in a shaker cup & add 2oz of milk and then shake it first, then add the coffee & shake again - much better. There are also some Premier Protein clear drinks you can try & I really like Protein20 waters. One important thing - what tastes good to you during pre-op might not taste so good after. So try to buy just enough to test out & have on hand for after. I didn't mind the clear Premier Protein before surgery. Now it's just kinda ick. I can dilute it way down but, heh. I'd rather just drink water & get that protein & calories elsewhere.
  7. I've seen so many comments from people who have had to have their gallbladder removed just months after their WLS I started to research why the heck they don't just take it out when they do the WLS. From what I could gather, they don't because "usually" they won't take anything out until it's necessary. However, there also doesn't seem to be any purpose of the gallbladder & if your dr is suggesting to take it out now, he might be saving you a bunch of money in co-pays and max out of pockets doing it now rather than say have it flair up in January, & you're back to $0 on insurance.
  8. I'm only 3 weeks out & I already feel this. Some days I'm legitimately hungry and can eat more. Others most of the day has passed & I've not consumed enough to hit calories/protein.

    after surgery

How far post op are you? There's a lot of gas post op from the surgery that has to work it's way out.
  10. You're doing great. My date was 10 days before you & I'm at a total of 22, 14 since surgery.

    BUMMER! Disappointed & Sad

That is horribly disappointing. It just means 6/17 wasn't your day. You'll get there.

    Stalls

Girl just keep going. I will throw a damn party if I hit 46 pounds by my 8th week lol. I've yet to lose more than 5 pounds in any week. We're all different. Just keep going & try not to be discouraged by the stalls between.
  13. Oh! Wait, I think it was when I had my tonsils removed, as an adult. Which is no joke. You could easily buy yourself a week with tonsils and also buy yourself some time on the recovery end, not eating much cause you just don't feel well. I would imagine a lot of dental work could work here too. Really, when I had my wisdom teeth removed I had dry sockets after & it was a good week of misery. Same with tonsils. I was for sure not eating much after both of those.

    Stalls

46 pounds in two months? What stall?
  15. I swear I once got 2 weeks off for wisdom teeth removal.
  16. Hi John! My pain was absolutely the worst the first 24 hours. Once it was under control, it was still "normal" painful for less than a week. You may very well turn the pain corner in another 24-48 hours. I'm self employed & work from home (just on a computer, nothing strenuous) and was back to work in 4 days. I'm now 2.5 weeks post-op and am easily eating & drinking. I did some gardening a couple of days ago - light stuff, didn't lift much as it's still so early. I've been where you're at though! That first day I was like what barbaric insane thing have I done?!?!?

    MAY 2019 date

What soft foods are you allowed? I was 5/23 & I'm on cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, ground chicken, ground beef, veggies, cheese.

    The Maintenance Thread

Ms.sss, I'm nowhere near maintenance (2.5 weeks post-op) but love reading where everyone is at in their journey & so scanned this thread & now I've been thinking about it ALL DAY. I think you said it takes you an hour to eat a meal? And you're struggling to get above 800 calories? At 2.5 weeks it takes me 10 min to eat a meal and I could easily eat 1,000 calories. (I don't, because I'm trying to keep the calories as low as possible as long as possible). I guess I'm both fascinated that it takes you that long to eat & terrified of my own future if it's already this easy for me to eat this close to my surgery date. And I'm really curious what exactly you eat that takes an hour? Is it something dense? A half sandwhich? I I'm still in soft foods which are all so easy for me. Yogurt, eggs, veggies, ground meats, cheese. I can eat 4oz without issue. And I'm getting 65oz of water a day. I'm actually at 60oz of water & 600 calories today & it's only 6pm. I hope these questions don't sound rude because it's not my intention at all. I just can't get this off my mind. I scour these threads & see people saying they're 8 months out & can't get down a 1/4 cup of food & I'm like... maybe my surgeon only removed half my stomach because I am already more fine than I'd like to be. If that makes any sense at all.

    New around here

Hi Arrivan! Sorry I'm seeing this a bit late as today was the big day! Scouring the internet for actual stories is SO FAMILIAR because that was me leading up to my date. (I just had the sleeve done on 5/23) If you're like me you'll probably be back on line in the next 24 hours or so wondering if everything you're feeling is normal or not. My first 24 hours was wayyy more painful than I thought. But I also went into it not at all concerned about pain. For some reason, I thought I could hack the pain. Not so much, but it was way better in a day or so and barely a thought within a week maybe? You'll hear varying stories from every source you look at. (YouTube vloggers are helpful too!) My experience has been fairly easy so far. Almost too easy. I've had no issues drinking liquids from pretty much day one. I carefully and slowly sipped while in the hospital. I very carefully and slowly sipped the first few days at home. I'm only 2 weeks out & now I don't even think about it that much. I have 65oz of cold water in my containers in the fridge each morning and I work my way through them. I also had no issues when I transitioned to food. I'm easily able to get down ground meats, eggs, yougurt, tuna. How everyone reacts is so different. If something feels horribly off, contact your doctor. Otherwise, rest assured everyone's experience is just a little different & you can find people here to compare notes with. Also, enjoy the four weeks! I am self employed and work from home. I had things that needed to get done so I gave myself four days and honestly it was all I needed. I've been fine running errands & tonight did a little LIGHT gardening - 17ISH days post surgery.

Eating out or at others homes...

Hi Danie! I am only a few weeks ahead of you so I can offer my thoughts on what the first couple of weeks will look like for you. The first time I went to a restaurant was 15 days post op. If I'd gone before that, I'd probably have been super annoyed because there'd have been nearly nothing I could order. Though, depending on the situation I suppose you could (not that you'd want to) go to a Panera and order something like chicken soup and then only eat the broth. It would just be a real bummer. I ate out with a friend that does not know I've had the surgery just two weeks post surgery. We went to a breakfast place and I had coffee until my food arrived, the just set it aside and never took another sip. No one seemed to notice this at all. For food, I ordered a scrambler (scrambled eggs, veggies, cheese) and asked for cottage cheese instead of hash browns. When they asked what toast I wanted I just said wheat, knowing full well I'd take it to go & crumble it up for the birds. At this stage, it just felt like the easier option than refusing toast. Food arrived, I probably ate 1/4 or 1/3 of the eggs. And honestly it wasn't a big deal. I said to my friend I went low carb & was cutting back. She ordered a pile of sugary crepes and enjoyed them. It didn't bother me in the least to see someone else eating something yummy. Already at this point, eggs and cheese is heaven for me. I've heard people mention that waitress will be like "is your food okay" when you eat less than half of it. It's fine. So much of it is your body language and how you handle it on your end. For me for this meal, I probably had my fork in my hand for a good long while as we were yapping and eating & I was pacing myself. But also, it probably looked like I was still picking at it. Eventually the waitress asked if I wanted a box. No big deal. At one point my friend was like, oh wow I just ate this entire plate and you've not eaten nearly as much. I super casually was like "oh I had a protein shake this morning." Honestly the girl had no clue and I flat out told her many times last year that I wanted to have gastric sleeve. Admittedly, I'm sure I said it flippantly and she didn't take me THAT seriously, but the thing is... no one pays any damn attention to anything but themselves most of the time. Example, even when she noticed that she'd cleared her plate & I hadn't. That wasn't about ME, it was about her. She was (I'm assuming) thinking crap did I just wolf that down? So for sure, you can fake it through a meal if you don't want people to know. Say you just ate or you've gone KETO. Whatever. As far as trying to make you eat more - there will ALWAYS be situations. It's really up to you to say no. My own damn mother (who knows I had this done & how hard I'm trying) showed me a recipe last week for something she loves that's low carb. I looked at it and said "looks great, but too many calories for me at this stage." Today she stopped by my house and brought me a container of the same thing I just last week told her no on. I told her to take it right back out the door with her. When you're in a 500-700 calorie a day phase, you will guard those calories fiercely.

    June 2019 sleevers

Good luck tomorrow! I just had mine on 5/23 & honestly - it's been great. First 24 hours were way more painful than I expected. Everything else has been easier than I expected. The day after when they finally gave me fluids, it was not hard to get them down. I did the 2oz sipped. Watched the clock and paced myself, but easy. The first 2 weeks of nothing but soups I was climbing the walls. I'm literally... 18 days post op and no complications. I can easily easily drink. I woke up this morning & probably drank 8oz in one sip. I'm being careful to never drink at least 30 min past eating & have made it a personal challenge to get down 65oz of just water per day, but it's not been hard. Liquids go down super easy for me. Meals, 4oz. I'm eating eggs, ground meats, yogurts. A lot of quiche - eggs and cheese & veggies. I've also had no issues whatsoever with swallowing any pills.

    Angry 1 year post op

I'm wondering if you're angry at yourself? As far as your husband, I'm guessing things weren't perfect "before either." If he ignored your weight loss and didn't respond to it at all, would you be upset that he wasn't being supportive? Would you feel like he was being dismissive of all the hard work that went into a massive physical transformation? Wonder if he wouldn't have preferred you stay fat so things could remain status quo and he wouldn't need to adapt to the new you? It's kind of a no win for him. Or maybe he's just a huge jerk, I don't know him.
  23. I forgot to mention, powdered peanut butter is actually not terrible. It adds like 50 calories and 5G protein. I blend with chocolate or banana premier protein & it gives you a new flavor.
  24. God the cottage cheese craving week one is REAL. The protein shakes made me want to vomit (mentally, I was never actually sick) and was so over soup that week. My week one was no yogurt unless it was drinkable. Actually I think that was supposed to be two weeks for me.
  25. I think I'm technically on pureed but for real, pureed to me is ground beef and ground chicken. I'm not pureeing anything. I weight and measure everything, eat in 4oz increments. Zero issues. Tonight I had 3 oz of ground chicken with hot sauce and 1oz of blue cheese. Earlier I had eggs with goat cheese and spinach. I also try and add protein to my coffee in the morning to kick up the protein as high as possible. I got that GENEPRO that I think I saw someone recommend. It's real trial and error. Some stuff it curdles in, disgusting. Found a YouTube video, if you put it in a shaker cup and add even 2oz of milk or creamer and shake it up, it becomes pretty smooth. Then pour the coffee on top & shake again. Adds 30G protein for 60 calories.
