leahdavis33 got a reaction from mommy_vsg in Lies to tell people about what surgery I am having
Hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH). It is basically a growth/nodule in the liver that shouldn't affect anything or be cancerous, and can stay the same for years. But if there is rapid growth of the nodule, they will do surgery to remove it. Recovery time is 6 weeks, and you have to do a healthy liver diet to reduce stress on the liver before and after surgery. High in Protein, low in carbs and sugar, low glycemic index. If you don't feel well, blame it on the liver enzymes or that your body doesn't tolerate fatty foods and sugar as well since the surgery. People don't understand all the technical stuff so they hear the explanation and don't ask many questions. I thought about using gallbladder as the excuse, but I heard gall stones are not uncommon when you lose weight rapidly and my luck I'll end up needing my gallbladder removed at some point.

HW: 343, SW: 307, CW: 284. I had RNY on 4/15/19. I feel like I'm losing weight so slowly, but seeing what everyone else is experiencing, am relieved that this is more average than slow. I am glad so many of you are sharing your experience. It really helps out things in perspective.

I use MFP too. If you use a Fitbit you can sync it with them also.

My weight loss picked up the moment i was able to get real food (protein + Fiber in veg) in me and reduce the Protein Shake consumption. I still had one or a partial in the morning, but food the rest of the day. Some don't do well with the insulin factor from the Protein Shakes.
Hang in there. It gets better. I get the whole contipation thing and soreness...but you must move. Even 5 minutes of walking in your house. Take baby steps. Forget a C25K. You're not there yet. Live in reality. Small steps daily, consistently...not big grand gestures/movements. Before you know it, you will be walking 10K per day and will be ready to think about a C25K. Swearsies!!!

I think the really frustrating thing is (at least for me it was) that "being attracted to someone" and "being nice to someone" are two entirely different things and while I absolutely understand that someone isn't physically/sexually attracted to very overweight people I have no clue why being fat seems to affect how people in general react to you.
I thought I looked awful when I was heavier and I don't think of very overweight people as "attractive" (sue me). However, that doesn't prevent me from being nice to heavier people. Being nice or polite or showing decent behavior or whatever one might call it is just a matter of common courtesy for me and not of weight.
I have quite a few overweight colleagues in different departments of the hospital and I don't think of them as "lesser" or something like that and I don't know why anyone could even have the idea that their work or their ideas or whatever could somehow be less worth or less good than that of slimmer colleagues just because they're fat and I also don't have the impression that other thin colleagues might be having these thoughts.
However, maybe it's different in other professions. In the medical field there are boatloads of overweight/fat people working as it seems to me.

There are of course 2 sides to this.
I am sure that if you had put in all this effort and lost all this weight and people didn’t comment or tell you how great you look you would be more teed off. I know it frustrates me when no one says anything.
Also whilst some people are attracted to obese people the majority of people aren’t. So whilst who you are hasn’t changed the way you look is probably a lot more pleasing now. Ask yourself if you thought you looked great when you were carrying all that excess weight, I know personally I think I look awful .

I am just beginning my journey but down a total of 100 lbs from last year and 52 lbs of that has been since April after receiving the surgey. I am frustrated as i have always been discriminated against. I have been doing my job for 29 years. I have a great reputation and am very knowledgeable. However I always get passed up for promotions and advancement. Tired of it. So am hoping that what happened to you happens to me. Although at 57 YOA may have to deal with age discrimination next. People don't know how to treat you if you are different in anyway. Anyway at 240 so still have a long way to go but getting there.

I have trouble with the Protein Shakes as well. I bought the unflavored Protein isolate (I like the Isopure unflavored whey protein isolate) from Amazon. For 1 scoop, you get 25 g protein. You can add it to anything. Yogurt, Soup, smoothie, cottage cheese... I sometimes make my own shake with 1 scoop protein, 8 Oz either skim, coconut, or almond milk, a little vanilla extract, a tsp cocoa, sweetener, and a couple ice cubes... Have to wait a few minutes for the foam to settle it, but the Protein Powder has no flavor or aftertaste. That is my go to rescue to get the protein in when I'm struggling.

Hi, started at 306 then had foot surgery and went up to 312. I’m down to 303 now. My sleeve surgery is scheduled for Monday, May 20. I’m on the liquid diet. Some days I’m hungry and some days I’m not. When I’m hungry, I feel like I’m starving. I’ve stayed the course and not had anything but liquids. Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice? Also, to those who’ve already had surgery, I live alone and do not have stairs in my house. Is is necessary to have someone stay with me the first couple of nights I’m home after surgery?

Isopure has a natural line of powders that use cane sugar--and a surprisingly small amount per serving. 25g of Protein and 3g sugar. Mixed into Water or skim milk it 1000x better than a premade shake--no thickness or off taste (other than one would expect from whey isolate).
