Let me be clear. When I say snacking, I mean fruits and veggies. I’m not downing Cookies and French fries. My meals consist of mainly fruits and veggies most of the time because meat is not appealing. That’s all I was trying to say. No need to use profanity on this thread. Thanks.

I am 4 months out and I genuinely have no desire to eat meat nor do I enjoy meals anymore. I’d much prefer snacking or snack foods. Sitting down for a meal isn’t appealing and most of the time I find it hard to digest a meal. When I snack on fruit or veggies, I’m fine.

Anyone else deal with this or deal with food not being appealing? I’m so concerned because I know I don’t get my Protein in, but the thought of meat and even Protein Drinks makes my stomach churn! I guess this is what happens to your taste buds after surgery?

Any suggestions on how to make meals more appealing, especially protein?

Sounds like you are in the norm at three months out to me. What you are describing is common for the sleeve. Your restriction relaxes you progress out from surgery. (it’s not back to full size) It’s a bit alarming when you experience this sensation for yourself, Right? *If anyone thinks they stretched their pouch have it diagnosed by a surgeon* (its rare)
I hit two points where I notice my restriction was less. 3rd month and again in my 6th month. If you are following your plan and staying within your weight loss calories and macros, you will continue to lose weight.

It can be hard. I added in clear Protein like Isopure. Also a Protein Powder favored by vegans. With Fluffy on fruits - I gain if I eat even a serving a day. Steamed shrimp remain my go to protein Mix it up and let yourself get really hungry then protein. Best to you.

I’m a little over one month post op, and I don’t have any interest in food. However, I think my disinterest is in large part to the amount of puking I’ve been doing. I haven’t been able to move from purées yet. I can’t stomach another Protein Shake. I make one each day, and get about an ounce in before I can’t drink anymore. It’s hard to believe my pouch could be so small, but it just is. I get full, very very fast. Within 1-3 bites and I’m done. I’m practicing everything I’ve been told. Putting the fork down, chewing everything until you can’t chew anymore, trying to eat smaller frequent meals... etc. but I just can’t get it in. My NP however told me that if I’m getting in 40g of Protein, she’s ok with that for now. I need to be at 600 cals/day in order to go back to work, and I’m just not there, not even close. I’m hoping that another week of purées and I’ll be ready for soft foods.
Just keep doing the best you can. ❤️

There are ways of saying things or giving advice, without using profanities and belittling the person who is going through this.
If a brand new person read your response on this and another post this morning, do you think they would feel comfortable posting their fears and experiences on here. You are doing more harm than good.
Me reading your responses today has now made me think that this person isn't on here to help us newbies, for me, your 'advice' has now had the opposite effect.
This is supposed to be a no judgment zone where you're allowed to state your fears and mistakes and not be ridiculed or scolded for it...
This is not meant to be a back and forth, tit for tat thing, its just my advice to you, calm down, if you don'tlike a post or the personis being 'whiny' in your opinion, swipe and move on, dont make them feel like crap for posting their experiences...

Why are you so rude today? Normally I'm interested in your comments but for some reason today, your advice seems nothing but patronizing and damn right bullying. If you don't like the posts, move on but no need to make the person who wrote it feel invalidated. . Jeez! 🙄🙄🙄

I bought the Geno Pro Protein. I reviewed it with my nutritionist. The scoop is smaller and I mixed it with diet ice tea, coffee, lemonade. It’s helped me. Good Luck and hang in there.

I guess my concern is that I don’t get to that point where I am uncomfortable once I finish my portion but I also don’t feel super full either. I guess I’m learning that my body can be satisfied by not being overly stuffed from food. It’s just alarming because I was expecting to have the restriction I did when I first had surgery. I would take 3 bites and I’d be full. Now, I can finish my portion.

How easy is it to stretch out the gastric sleeve pouch? I am 3 1/2 months out and feel like I can eat more than 1/2 cup to 1 cup per serving. Some days I do have “small” pouch days though. Anyone else experience these sensations this soon?

I have had 2 different bariatric surgeons tell me that the pouch and indeed be stretched. This is one of the important reasons that you should stick to plan and be sure not to eat more than what your dr tells you to eat at each meal.
I too am able to eat more than I should. I feared that my pouch was stretched. I had an egd recently and found out that mine is not stretched.

Your pouch will relax over time and its highly unlikely that you have stretched it out. I would imagine people that do stretch there pouches would be binge eaters and do it over and over again ( my personal opinion ) I was told they don't stretch but on an episode of My 600 lb life Dr. Now said one of his patients had stretched their pouch. Just stick to the guidelines your surgeon gave you. Good luck

I'm not making any assumptions but were you an emotional eater? I have found that since I am not able to eat as I used to that I am having a lot more anxiety. I realize now that I used to eat to help deal with my anxiety, now without food I am having to feel it. It's not comfortable but in a way, I feel good that I am not using food to cope right now.

It really doesn't make a significant (if any) difference, as we all typically go through stall, pause or slowdown after 2-3 weeks (do a search for "three or third week stall') as that is about the time that the body is shifting gears and adapting to working under a major caloric deficit. It happens whether one is on liquids, "full" liquids, purees/mushes or more solid foods; many get the impression that it makes a difference because most are usually transitioning between phases at about the same time, but even those of us who were not transitioning (we were on soft foods from the outset on our program) experienced the same thing.
    https://www.dsfacts.com/weight-loss-stall-or-plateau.php
Once we get through that initial stall and transition away from living on our glycogen and start making up for the caloric shortfall with predominantly burning our fat stores, the loss rate will slow down some as fat burns more slowly than glycogen (carbohydrates, mostly), and our loss rate will typically decline over time as it takes fewer calories to move ourselves around at 200 lb than it does at 300 lb, etc.

Funny how a lot of us had/have the same fears about wls.
First, I too was afraid of going under and never waking up. When I did wake up afterwards, the first thought I had was "YES! I'm alive!!'.
Second, I was apprehensive about the lifestyle changes and that I would miss food/going out, or not be good about exercise, etc. Turns out it just came naturally. I don't have that longing or intense craving to eat. I still go out with friends and family and am completely fine eating very little or not at all (it's their company I really want, anyway). Even the non-drinking/very-little-drinking is fine with me too. As for exercise, I find that I actually want to do something instead of force myself to. This may be because exercise is easier now because I'm not so big, or it may be because I just like how I feel when I do exercise. Before when I was bored or antsy, I would go into the pantry to look for something to eat. Now I get outside to go for a walk, or go to the gym or basement gym, or do some house-cleaning, or anything at all that has me up on my feet and moving.
Getting this surgery is one of the best things I have done for myself.
