Yes! It's used by hospital support personnel much too often. I feel it's a form of degrading, bullying by people who have no understanding or compassion over patients physical struggles. Instead they hold judgement over those patients and have a word they can use without the possibility of being accused of bullying because it's an accepted term.

No way! Your sugar "slip" is being NORMAL. Hair loss, from surgery? Again, NORMAL. It took me 3 years to get to have surgery. I weighed 357 at my highest and was treated like it was 753 lbs. I went down 27 lbs on my own. However, I had asthma all my life and my body HURT. I retired from a job I LOVED for 25 years due to fears of working in a COVID spread environment and in order to deal with my weight. My pcp gave me phentermine to reach the arbitrary 315 lbs hurdle goal to get into surgery.
Now, 6 weeks post op TODAY, it hurts to eat, I HATE Protein Shakes and it feels like I'm starving. Still, I feel immensely HAPPY. I am grateful for the surgery! I lost 30 first 2 weeks post op, then nothing more and gained back 4 lbs. Yet, I know it's a blip.
You lost weight! You lost 60 pounds! That's like putting down a kid who piggy backed on you for however long. You're sixty pounds LIGHTER. Your hair will grow back! EAT foods high Iron, Biotin, and Vitamins for hair skin and nails. My sister went through same and 5 years later she's back to normal, hair and all. She gains a little on holiday's but goes right back to losing what she gained with more activity and Water. You are NORMAL. Enjoy what you've accomplished! Plus I just read people with surgery are living LONGER!!!😎🤟

I’m a bit nervous since I’m five months past surgery tomorrow and I’ve only lost a little over half of my excess weight.
I spent most of October and November in a stall, did well in December and so far in January I’ve lost a little bit but not a lot.
I still have 17-18 kilos to go to get to a healthy BMI, and I’m not going to get there in a year if I will only lose a kilo a month from now on. I lost a total of 19 kilos in the first five months, most of it in the beginning and then in December.

Thank you ALL for the feedback. I needed that swift kick in the rear to get my head right. I was in a rough place last week when I posted and I was being so hard on myself. I’m just trying to figure out this new lifestyle one day at a time. I’m constantly worried that I’m doing something wrong, especially when I notice something different or changing. Again, your feedback truly helped!

62 pounds in six months is a totally decent rate of loss. I had lost around that much at that stage. Hair loss is normal and most of us go through it, and I daresay all of us have had a day or so of going over the calorie allowance due to a birthday, or Christmas, or a holiday.
There's absolutely nothing to lose hope about here - everything you've described is perfectly normal.

I am 6 months post op and I’ve only lost 62 lbs. I’ve struggled with Hair loss and I’ve slipped with all the sweets this holiday season. Nothing too crazy though, just enough to be disappointed. Have I wasted my time and money at this point?

I see so much "I only lost x in y time, is that okay????" in tiktok comments and it's so exhausting. Sure you "only" lost 20 lbs in 3 months... how much would you have lost if you didn't have the surgery??

I also hate the word "obese". High cringe factor for whatever reason.

You're talking about the sleeve, right? For rny, there is a pouch because the stomach is bypassed.

Nothing really gives me ick. I do have a pet peeve though concerning wls. People who have too high of expectations. For example, complain they lost "only" 15 lbs a month (that is a whopping 52500 calories less) and blame the surgery when they wouldn't have lost weight at all if it weren't for the surgery and probably would've continued gaining.

So, what things about the bari world/community give you the ick? No idea why, but for me it's the word "pouch" and the concept of having a pouch inside of me -- I'm sure there are good psychological reasons for why most bari professionals use that term post-op, but for me I will always call it my stomach and I feel so much better when other people do too.

I'd let your clinic know. I would think by six weeks out you shouldn't be feeling pain. If nothing else, it'd be peace of mind.

Yeah - agree with everyone else - nothing to do with backing up into the oesophagus/vomiting, everything to do with getting a cue that my pouch is full and that nothing more will fit in easily. I've ignored it a little for various situational reasons over the last year but it's only resulted in discomfort and a renewed initiative to stick with the programme - never random vomiting. I hope you get over this mental hump and have your surgery OP!!!

Thank you all for the thoughtful responses. (And the nice words about my beating cancer, @kcuster83 . I tend to forget that experience as time goes by. I need to remind myself that it was kind of a big deal and gather more strength from it. :))
Based on your responses, my takeaway is that getting to the restriction point is your body's way of saying that the sleeve is full, and anything el se you try to stuff in there is going to remain in your esophagus. I'm going to posit that THAT is the source of the discomfort.
I have a friend who has an abnormally narrow esophagus. He'll eat, the food won't go down and he'll have to vomit. At that point he can't even sip water...he immediately gets sick. This can happen with any type of food that gets lodged in there and doesn't easily break down with stomach acids, which I guess also start backing up into the esophagus. He has gotten a procedure to dilate the esophagus every few years because over time, the space narrows again. Restriction sounds like a version of this, milder and able to be controlled, but ultimately resulting from stuff being stuck in the esophagus. Does that sound close?

First: Congratulations on beating your cancer or cancer scare! That's a HUGE THING!
Second: Restriction is basically just what bariatric patients refer to as being "full". We refer to it as restriction because we don't want to get stuffed or over filled as it tends to make us sick. No need to worry about it, you just have to learn your new bodies signals and understand when you are feeling said "restriction" before you eat too much.

Restriction for me is simply feeling stomach bubbles & a bit of tightness on my chest but not in a scary way. Its just my bodies way of telling me I'm getting full. Nothing scary or gross!

@Tealael Great idea!! Since I have not had my surgery yet I am going to start taking pics of what and how much I am eating now so that when I have a stall I can look back on how much I used to eat versus post-op, that way I won't be so hard on myself. You're the best!!
