killerqueen86 got a reaction from carijackson77 in United Healthcare - question about the 6 month supervised diet req.
I am at the end of my six months (which is actually closer to 8 because only after you complete the 6 months do they submit all the paperwork to insurance and you wait for approval) and I felt the same way. "Why can't we just schedule this before I lose my courage!?" But honestly, it goes much faster than you think and you really need time to adjust and learn about life after surgery. It is important to do you research (not saying you haven't) and feel confident that you are ready. For me, I went through the motions. I researched, followed the rules etc etc. But it wasn't until I got the call that insurance approved me that it all clicked. This is really happening and my whole life is about to change. Good luck! I hope everything works out!

killerqueen86 got a reaction from orionova in I'm in STL, MO. Curious about my surgeon and a review I recently found.
Saw my surgeon for my pre-op and she confirmed that she does not use a bougie, but uses an endoscope. She showed me the size. Pretty small. She said she uses it because she can look at the stomach at the same time and check for complications. And then can use it for the leak test. She put my mind at ease.

My surgeon put my mind at ease. I asked her about the lady saying she only removed 20% of stomach.
She said it is possible for patients to let their stomach stretch when not sticking to good eating habits. Those patients tend to blame the doctor and do best being switched to bypass.

I've been there! I had friends over the night before my liquid diet and we ordered a ton of foods for plans to pig out and I couldn't even finish a slice of pizza. Congrats!

Thanks everyone! To clarify, I didn't mean never eating those foods ever again. First, I meant that I will now be on a liquid diet, and second, I will no longer be making those things a daily choice. I enjoyed a snack here and there, but after the surgery I know i have to make my food count. I just won't have the space for it and have to make sure I'm getting what I need first. I am not an all or nothing person. Just having a little celebration.

Today I had my pre-op appointment with my surgeon where I was cleared for surgery. I will have to start my liquid diet tomorrow! Not so excited about that! Haha
So, today was my farewell to food day, in the sense that I will no longer be eating the way I have been accustomed to my whole life before starting this journey.
I had dreams of cupcakes, ice cream, steak, cheeseburgers, chips, Cookies and all that garbage.
But guess what happened? After all of these months of dieting and Portion Control, I only ate 1/4 of my steak, 1/3 of my potatoes and small side salad; pushing the croutons to the side. I stopped when I felt full!!!!!!
I ate none of the other junk I had hoped to.
Later I had a small ice cream cone and 1 small slice of my favorite pizza.... felt like crap all night.
I hadn't realized just how far I have come and how bad I would feel.
    Motivation!
I am so scared to have surgery, but I am so ready to take this next step and start this new life.
I'm so glad I felt like crap! I know how good it feels to have control.

I know the feeling. I was scared too. I could eat this whole meal easily in one sitting. Today that would be 5 meals. No kidding. But, you will be so full and eventually you get used to it.
    Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

It truly depends on the person. I was told it could potentially be a 2 night stay, but I ended up only staying 1 night, which I believe is what is most common.

I stayed two nights. I had a cold when I had my surgery and then I was coughing. I couldn’t sleep much in the hospital and made SURE I could go home after that.

I was outpatient; however, I think one night would have been better because I am finding it hard to keep anything down including Water. Pain isn’t bad, the nausea is the only difficult thing to deal with. I’m two days post op.

I stayed one night in hospital and then I was discharged the following day, I would say make sure you have your fluids ie Water and try to move if you can because the more you move the better it will be. The pain wasnt much my threshold is very high. Oh you will definitely need your hubbies help in the first few days because bending and lifting is not advisable . Mine helped to bathe me and I appreciated it so much. Good luck and take care.

Freestyle sounds like no style at all, don't think I would want a surgeon who merely " eye-balls" their work. Always thought, itwas a pretty straightforward thing, the sleeve, then you hear of posters with hour-glass shaped stomach remnants, ones that were big and floppy, and you say " I just don't know" maybe I'm lucky I was a RnY bypass, although I bet there may be misshapen or wrong- sized pouch too.
