  1. My surgeon put my mind at ease. I asked her about the lady saying she only removed 20% of stomach.
She said it is possible for patients to let their stomach stretch when not sticking to good eating habits. Those patients tend to blame the doctor and do best being switched to bypass.

  2. It's possible she uses an endoscope instead of a bougie, but you need something to construct the sleeve around. It's not something you can just freehand.
Saw my surgeon for my pre-op and she confirmed that she does not use a bougie, but uses an endoscope. She showed me the size. Pretty small. She said she uses it because she can look at the stomach at the same time and check for complications. And then can use it for the leak test. She put my mind at ease.

  3. Thanks everyone! To clarify, I didn't mean never eating those foods ever again. First, I meant that I will now be on a liquid diet, and second, I will no longer be making those things a daily choice. I enjoyed a snack here and there, but after the surgery I know i have to make my food count. I just won't have the space for it and have to make sure I'm getting what I need first. I am not an all or nothing person. Just having a little celebration.

  4. Today I had my pre-op appointment with my surgeon where I was cleared for surgery. I will have to start my liquid diet tomorrow! Not so excited about that! Haha

So, today was my farewell to food day, in the sense that I will no longer be eating the way I have been accustomed to my whole life before starting this journey.

I had dreams of cupcakes, ice cream, steak, cheeseburgers, chips, Cookies and all that garbage.

But guess what happened? After all of these months of dieting and Portion Control, I only ate 1/4 of my steak, 1/3 of my potatoes and small side salad; pushing the croutons to the side. I stopped when I felt full!!!!!!

I ate none of the other junk I had hoped to.

Later I had a small ice cream cone and 1 small slice of my favorite pizza.... felt like crap all night.

I hadn't realized just how far I have come and how bad I would feel.

    Motivation!

I am so scared to have surgery, but I am so ready to take this next step and start this new life.

I'm so glad I felt like crap! I know how good it feels to have control. 20190403_135810.jpeg Snapchat-843946228.jpeg

  5. Really? That gives me so much hope!! I feel like the 6 months will drag and take forever and it really brings me down sometimes. I just wish I could start my life up again (in a healthier way) sooner than later. I’m in NY - I noticed you said Oxford :). Best of luck to you on your journey!
I am at the end of my six months (which is actually closer to 8 because only after you complete the 6 months do they submit all the paperwork to insurance and you wait for approval) and I felt the same way. "Why can't we just schedule this before I lose my courage!?" But honestly, it goes much faster than you think and you really need time to adjust and learn about life after surgery. It is important to do you research (not saying you haven't) and feel confident that you are ready. For me, I went through the motions. I researched, followed the rules etc etc. But it wasn't until I got the call that insurance approved me that it all clicked. This is really happening and my whole life is about to change. Good luck! I hope everything works out!

  6. Hi guys, I was curious if anyone is from or around St. Louis?

I am set to have my surgery in 2.5 weeks. I did my research before joining the program back in August and thought I was happy. Recently, I found a review on my sugeon that freaked me out a bit.

First, let me say she has great reviews for the most part.

But there is a review by a lady claiming that my doctor only removed 20% of her stomach during her sleeve surgery. I don't know the situation. Maybe there was a reason for this.

She said that she had to have revision surgery 2 years later in 2016 and her new surgeon claims that my surgeon has a reputation for being conservative in the sense of how much she removes during VSG.

    I DON'T WANT TO HAVE A REVISION!

So, do you guys think she is bitter and her new surgeon is just shady in stating this, basically saying she doesn't do good work?

Or should I be worried and use a different surgeon?

I don't know how to feel. I do understand that a lot of reviewers are the upset ones and are more likely to do said review. And there are probably 10 more that never took to the internet and claimed their success.

    Maybe I'm overthinking this.

  7. Hi guys! I'm new here. I was recently approved for gastric sleeve. I am nervous and excited!

I was told that I have to stay over night at least 1 night after my surgery. Is 1 night typical or will it turn into more?

I live about 1.5 hours away from the hospital my surgeon performs her surgeries and have 2 year old twins. My MIL is staying with them and I told her it should only be one night. My husband is taking the whole week off to help me recover and take care of my twins.

How many nights did you stay in the hospital? Were you in a lot of pain? Can I hold toddlers afterwards?

  8. Congrats! I’m fairly new here too. I start pre-op diet next week. At the beach for baseball this week. Trying to not gain any weight! Packed my Protein Shakes.
I know the feeling. I passed on birthday cake last weekend! That's my weakness. My pre-op diet starts next Thursday the 4th if all goes well at my appt on the 3rd. I haven't been really successful losing a bunch of weight. I only managed to lose about 8 lbs but am fearing I'll show a gain because I'm being graced with monthy Water weight next week. About 10 lbs ever month like clockwork. Goes away a few days later. [emoji45]
