It took a long time to understand this concept--and I'm fairly smart.
So for me:
VOLUME is KING! I am not to exceed 1cup of volume per meal. (or at least that's the story)...
So, I put a 1 cup measure on the scale and first I'll weigh the Protein into it--cooked. Then I add the cooked measure of al dente veg that is allowed. Then I will add anything extra such as my avocado/tomato garnish which is actually a slider food that I eat at the end of dinner. Cuz um, I can.
And now days, I know that 1oz of cooked protein measures close to 1/4c (ground meats, diced chicken breast, cubed roasts all take up about 1/4c of space). So 3oz of protein is "about 2/3-3/4cup of volume. (I don't eat many composite meals that are very calorically dense or weight dense: ie chicken pot pie, chili, casseroles, pastas, beans/rice combos, stews, chicken and dumplings--that kind of high reward food. Because for 1cup of food, it likely weighs much more than 3oz.)

I woke up this morning at 350lbs. Down 120lbs since my 10/8 surgery date. My lowest weight in over a decade.
I don't know who needs to hear this but keep plugging away, No matter how hard it gets. It's worth it, so keep pushing!

And I was a RNY BYPASS also, 11 months out this coming Monday Now 190 after starting this trek at 365+. and even at 73 it is STILL WORKING for ME! At 5ft8 in I am heading for TEAM SLENDER! And it is Exciting like I never could have forecast!😛👗Yay!

scale- I would like to say merely looking at it worked, but thinking " that ISN'T TOO MUCH food" made ME what I used to be, so I trust scales more!

By the way, Congratulations on your upcoming bypass! I had mine March 27th. You'll do great!

Hi, there! When I'm measuring out things like cheese or deli turkey, I use a scale and weigh it. When measuring softer things like yogurt, ricotta, refried Beans, I use a measuring cup. Some folks use a measuring cup and put all their food in that so they're not going over a certain volume, like 1/2 cup or something. I'm sure other folks will chime in with some good advice!

My surgeons office called to tell me good and bad news. Bad news is my surgery date for August 19th had to be canceled due to his assistant being on vacation and the scheduler didn’t know. Now for the GOOD NEWS..... My surgery has been moved up to August 7th and I start the liquid diet immediately. Gosh I’m nervously excited. It’s this coming Wednesday. I’m checking my list to be sure I haven’t forgotten anything. I’m soooooo ready to start the journey.

I was sleeved yesterday afternoon. I think the hardest part was dealing with dry mouth and no Water within those 24-36 hours.
Today, day after sleeve. I’ve been walking was able to consume ice chips (1.5hr to finish) and moving to juice soon.
I have not burped or relieved gas as much as I imagined I’d have to. But I do feel it up near my chest and shoulder.
Wish I could just massage it out.
Because they are taking so good care of me and I may not make it to Soup consumption by EOD I may just stay one more night.

Still contemplating.
Im curious how everyone’s 24 hours after sleeve have been?

Note: I gained 4lbs since right before by surgery. 🙄

I’m very excited for you! My surgery is 8/12 & holy cow 10 days away & it’s gotten really real. A bunch of excitement mixed with a bit of nerves. When I look at all the pics from everyone on the OOTD I really get excited to be healthy again & buy clothes based on style instead of just covering up!!!! Best of luck to you! I originally started the process 4 years ago but only went as far as the first visit. I felt surgery was too drastic at the time and I thought I could lose the weight on my own. After many ups and downs (biggest loss of 50 pounds) and gaining it all back my pcp referred me to a weight management center. I feel comfortable with the staff/doctor. I hope the remaining months go by fast. I’ve never ever wanted summer to be over with. Lol.

Raising my hand. I am an outlier and fascinated with nutrition and fitness. I am addicted to the baraitricpal drama and comedy. Its all good if it keeps me maintianing years out.

Congratulations we are surgery buddies!! I will be getting VSG on August 19th at 9am and I have my preregistration appointment at the hospital next Tuesday the 30th. And I meet my surgeon for pre-op on August 12 :)
