    Excess skin

I'm the same...have lost almost 100# and, frankly, don't have as much sagginess as I thought I would. But that said, my butt, inner thighs, bat wings and abdomen are saggy now. I have always worn clothing that covers thighs and upper arms anyway so they don't bother me, plus I exercise (walking and lifting weights) and the muscle in becoming more defined. It's my abdomen that I want the skin removed from, but I'm also older (66) and not crazy about the recovery of such invasive surgery. I plan to talk about it with my surgeon at my one year visit.
  2. I had bad GERD before surgery...all gone now and not taking PPI's anymore!! I try to not eat too much (my stomach tells me when it's time to stop) or right before bedtime, which are just common sense things.

    NSAIDS

I'm a medical professional and totally agree with you...my postop patients do fantastic with Toradol and I've given it for years with great results. But....I couldn't get my bariatric surgeon to agree to let me have it...so disappointed! I tried to convince him that since it was given IV it wouldn't affect my stomach, but he still wouldn't do it. Luckily I had very little postop pain. Unfortunately ibuprofen is the only med that helps me with pain...Tylenol does nothing. I used to get many headaches but since surgery I've only had a couple that didn't need meds.

    Over 65 group

I had the same experience...very little pain after the first 2 days. No nausea/vomiting either. I also have a high pain tolerance. This was the best thing I ever did...have lost almost 100# in 11 months. My worst issue was the first 8 weeks of liquids...couldn't wait to be able to eat real food again, but I did have to go slowly so my stomach would tolerate it. I still have to stay with the plan...small portions of healthy foods and regular exercise, which I am faithful to do. It feels SO good to be thin and able to do so many things I couldn't do for years.

    Sleeved over 65

Hi Kate...last summer I felt the same emotions as you. At 65 yrs old, I had the VSG on 8/1/18 and it was the BEST decision I ever made!! I was blessed with a very easy recovery (no n/v, no pain, steady weight loss) and have felt more and more amazing each month. I had T2DM, sleep apnea and GERD...ALL GONE NOW!! I was on 6 Rx meds...none now! At 5' 2", I was 238# at my heaviest and currently weigh 144#, having lost 94# so far. Have 14# left to lose but it's going slower now. I began exercising at 6 months postop...walk 2-5 mi nearly everyday and lift weights for 30 min. every other day. I've gone from a size 2XL to a medium-small clothes! I've had to replace my entire wardrobe but now clothes shopping is so much fun since I can wear cute clothes and look good in them. My doctor wants me to stay at 800-1,000 cal/day forever...and I eat healthy proteins, veggies and berries. I doubt if I'll ever date again (have been divorced for 33 yrs without meeting anyone since), but just looking good, feeling good and being healthy is enough. Hope you have a great experience and be sure to follow the doctors and nutritionists plan EXACTLY...then you'll have the best chance to lose as much weight as possible. Best wishes for this new chapter in your life!
  6. Thanks for the encouragement!! I'm just 15# from my goal at 9 months post-surgery but the weight loss has slowed. I'm upping the exercise and will try to drink more water. I won't give up and have vowed to get there and NEVER gain any back again!!
