I’ve seen around $10,000 (but may not cover some pre testing), $15,000 - $20,000 that covers everything.

Look at Blossom Bariatrics...the most you will pay is $15,500 but they will try to work with your insurance to take care of testing and stuff so your price could be less but that’s the max you will pay. This price includes hotel and transportation. They’re located in Las Vegas.

@elcee, they didn’t cut your stomach for gastric bypass?

I think no matter your surgery the end result depends on you. If you get the sleeve you get restriction and RNY you get malabsorption as well to help with weight loss. I know the sleeve is not reversible but it’s not common to have RNY reversed (from what I’ve read) and it’s complicated. Do your research on both and (no pun intended) go with your gut! 😂♥️

They are both good surgeries with pros and cons to both. Like you, I didn't like the idea of the rerouting of intestines but also the malabsorption scared me. Especially when it came to absorbing your Vitamin and minerals. I was on 2 support groups on Facebook - one a Bypass group and one a Sleeve group. When the question was asked on the Bypass group if anyone was having problems with their teeth a large majority was YES, with over a 100 responses. When I would look for the same question on the Sleeve group I could hardly find the question even asked. When I asked myself I got less than 20 responses and most were NO.
No offense to Elcee, but I work in surgery. Removing part of the stomach didn't phase me at all - I see body parts get removed all the time. Varying lengths of small bowel and colon are removed for cancer. Gallbladders are removed. Tonsils are removed. Uterus and fallopian tubes removed. Prostates removed. Bone joints are removed and replaced with metal versions. Vein is removed from the leg to bypass blood vessels in the heart. Even a small segment of the heart can be removed as a treatment for atrial fibrillation. So removing a large portion of the stomach didn't seem like a big deal.
Kristinqtpie is right. The surgery is just a tool to help facilitate weight loss but in the end your results depend on YOU and the choices you make. After spending well over a year in those Facebook support groups I came to the conclusion that regain doesn't just happen. People try to eat the same things they did preop and rely too much on their surgery to maintain the weight loss.

ive never bought into the chemical thing, everything we eat or drink is made with chemicals even organic vegetables. I wont go into what organic means in the U.S. but its not what you think. if you need it go for it, yes after surgery you cant have it. BUT I have found a way around it, for when im off stage 4. You may notice on the market that there is a machine called a soda stream, to make your own soda. well you can get caffeine free coke and Pepsi and not use the carbonation function so you make basically flat diet caffeine free Pepsi or coke or ginger ale I believe too. SO this is a way to enjoy it. Like I said I don't belive in the bad splenda or whatever. If it wasn't for chemicals we wouldn't have Protein shake mix, chewable Vitamins or Calcium etc. Just my Opinion. Even my nutritionist thought it was a great idea for people who need that diet soda taste. As far as I am concerned if it helps someone lose their weight, Im pretty much all for it.
Good luck, You can do this! and I love you all.!

I don't comment that much anymore, but there is so much misinformation in this thread that it needs to be addressed.
A sleeved stomach will never "stretch out" to normal size. Swelling will subside, scar tissue will soften, but stretching out just doesn't happen. It can't. The fundus was removed. However; frequent and constant over eating can weaken the esophageal sphincter and/or the pylorus.
With the esophageal sphincter weakening you would experience frequent heartburn. With the weakened pylorus, food just gets pushed out of the stomach before the bulk of digestion can happen. This leads to a decrease in satiety and more frequent eating.
Either your doctor doesn't know what he is talking about, or he is just telling you something in "layman terms". But that does neither you nor the community any good since it just perpetuates the belief that a sleeve can be stretched.

Kristinqtpie reacted to Emilia DD in 2nd Week Post Op Ate A Little Watermelon
Could you please elaborate a little on the reason you had the watermelon. I’m investing a lot of hope that post surgery I will not be at the mercy of hunger and cravings. Was the call for a piece of watermelon strong and overbearing your strength or you did it kind of out of boredom. I have taped and erased this post few times because I’m afraid of coming across as judgemental and is not my internet. Just please help me figure out your mind set at that time. I’m seriously struggling to control myself around food for a long time and gaining freedom from this exhausting uphill battle was a major selling point in my WLS decision.
So, are you feeling hungry 2 weeks post op? Are you craving food you see around? Is it hard not to think of what you want to eat? Can you just not walk away from it without second thoughts? Am I not realistic to expect freedom from this obsessive thoughts for at least 1.5 years?

Bariatriceating.com also has a diet plan you can order the products and it’s supposed to help you feel restriction again. Basically going back to basics and eating like when your first got out of surgery for like a week. Protein Drinks, Soups, Water, etc.

Kristinqtpie reacted to Fabgal31 in RNY surgery not as Expected
So I really wanted to be one of those people who posted a triumphant positive story about getting a bypass surgery with no complications. Sadly that hasn’t been the case. I had a gastric bypass done on April 1 and was discharged on April 2. I was feeling good, walking, and able to sip liquids. My surgeon said everything was routine and I was looking good. When I went home the evening of April 2, I felt a little bloated but not terrible. By 1:30a I woke up from my sleep feeling nauseous and started throwing up. By 4a on April 3 I was back in the hospital. My surgeon discovered that there was twisting in my small intestines which was preventing my liquids from going down. April 4 I was back in surgery. My surgeon says that she’s fixed the problem but in order to do so, a long surgical cut had to be made (no more tiny laparoscopic scars for me). I woke up in serious pain but still trying to have positive spirit. I’ve been poked a prodded for blood samples, redoing IV lines, etc. It’s now April 6, I’m still in the hospital because I basically can’t move without a nurses help and I’m still experiencing serious pain. Ive sipped a bit of Water and feel so full after just sipping that I’m questioning if the corrective surgery on my intestines was done right. Did I make the biggest mistake of my life. I just question why I did this to myself. I feel my positive spirit disappearing. I question if I’ll be ok. I keep thinking they will send me home and another complication will pop up. This is the first time in life where I cannot function without third party assistance and I feel so helpless.

@Kristinqtpie - it was rough because of the gas pains that settled in my shoulder and the unexpected hiatal hernia repair that Dr. Apel took care of. One day of rough and now I’m feeling pretty good. The IV therapy made a tremendous difference. The entire staff at Blossom and Warm Springs Surgical center were amazing!

Just a heads up. That's actually too much Protein. I was getting in that much as well, and my dietician and surgeon both told me that the high amount of protein was the reason that I stalled for so long. When I cut down to 60-80 grams a day, I started losing weight again.
