koketika got a reaction from GreenTealael in Smells
I’m a month post op and I noticed that as my body is constantly in ketosis, I feel like I always smell. Do any of you have any experience of smelly crotches and breathe?
Any tips to alleviate the smelliness?

I was told to lose 15 lbs, which I did, and then be on a liquid 2 days pre-op.

koketika reacted to 1badassbiggurl in Impatience & how to prevent loose skin
Loose skin is the one constant thing that I have struggled with the most during my weight loss journey. But then I remind myself that I’d rather be carrying around a couple pounds of loose skin rather than the 140+ lbs I’ve lost! I’ve thought about surgery, however it’s very costly and I’m not sure if it will happen for me, so I’m learning to adjust and love my new body.

That's why it's better to lose slowly, to avoid the big issue of a lot of excess skin. What's your hurry? Let it happen.

The only way to prevent loose skin is not lose weight

It is highly likely you are going to have some loose skin, how much is likly to depend mostly on genetics, age, history of yoyo dieting/big losses and regains (impacting on elasticity of skin), amount of weight lost etc. Once you have lost your excess fat, skin can take up to about two years for it to contract the most it is likely to. Exercise (building underlying muscle), Water, getting some good fats are some good things that may help with the 'appearance' of the loose skin, but not a significant help.
Impatience to lose weight is not going to help your situation, it leads to significant disappointment with unreasonable expectations. For weight loss goals be guided by your doctor's expectations.

You can do as much walking as you have energy to do. Break it up into small 5 or 10 minute walks instead of one big long walk if you want to. Yes, it's different being on a two week liquid diet, but it's perfectly doable and you won't die from it. 🙂

Have you tried calling the insurance company to see what the process is and what the estimated cost will be. You can get the procedure code from the surgeons office. If you normally pay a co-payment when you visit the doctor most likely they will apply, and if you need to reach a deductible the insurance company will be able to provide you with that information. When I went to my first appointment, my surgeon's office gave me a list of all the requirement needed by my insurance.
    Good luck with your journey.

the above poster is right. Also, with tacos, you're probably dealing with sodium as well. That makes a lot of people retain Water (including me!!)

If you tend to freak out about sudden weight gains invest in a scale that measures body fat as well. These things might not be very accurate but when you gain weight and see a sudden drop in body fat at the same time - you're retaining Water.

koketika reacted to catwoman7 in PLEASE HELP. I’m 2 weeks post op with very little weight loss.
people lose at all kinds of rates for lots of different reasons - gender, age, metabolic rate, starting BMI, whether or not they lost a lot of weight before surgery, etc. You are female - and you are starting at a low BMI (for a WLS patient), so right there that tells me that you're most likely not going to lose nearly as fast as some male who starts off at over 300 lbs.
I was a slow loser from the get-go - I lost a total of 16 lbs my first month, and I started out WAY heavier than you. Yet I lost all of my excess weight. Just stick to your plan and the weight will come off - whether fast or slow...

koketika reacted to SusieQ2019 in Was anyone else told not to shave their legs 4 days before surgery?
My instruction say do not shave the area where the incision will be and do not apply perfume, deodorant, lotion, makeup or chemical where incision will be.

Everyone is a little different. When I was on liquids I had 4oz at a time. No reason to rush anything. Finish what you can. At your stage you're all about healing.
    Good Luck!

I've told immediate family and close friends. When people see me and they comment on how much slimmer I look, I do tell them that I had bariatric surgery. I'm not publishing it in social media.

way I see it, ya have to live your life. We are not all joining a monastery or anything. have a drink if you want, just dont drink the whole bottle and dont do it every day.
Same goes with food. Looking at my recommended things the Dr wants me to eat, no way. I will have a fat, juicy cheeseburger and fries some time. just not every week...need to have balance in all things..

Try the unflavored Protein packs in some of the foods or liquids you can manage( Celebrate 20g) I get it. The Protein Drinks suck, I even drink fairlife milk (13gr of protein) to help me with my intake. I can't stand those powders nor do I like the chocolate taste of the protein drinks.. so I had to improvise to ensure my protein but I still fall short sometimes, but remember to keep pushing you will get your routine in place soon enough!.
